The TVR Chimaera is a car of many talents. Whether you want a beast to tear up the test track or a laid back grand tourer, the Chimaera performs well in all areas.
It’s no wonder then that TVR produced 6000 of them between 1992 and 2003, making it the most successful model in the companies history.
And in typical TVR fashion no two Chimaeras are quite the same car thanks to unlimited paint options, different engines and unique specifications with the 1997 example in the video proving the point perfectly.
Although red when it left the factory, this well cared for Chimaera was given a new lease of life in 2013 when it was resprayed Reflex Purple, a paint job that still holds up well today combining intricate mixes of ocean blues and deep golds in with the predominant purple.
It overall adds a unique twist to a very tidy example, having covered only 32,000 miles in its 27 years. This “Chim” also offers the 4.5 litre Rover V8, introduced to the lineup the same year this car was produced, boasting 285bhp, a top speed of 160mph and 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds, statistics that gave the competition at the time a run for its money and still hold up well today.
And remember the Chimaera is considered the entry level TVR… seriously?!
In this video (despite the unintentional short focus and fleeting conclusion) I give a short summary on the history of the car and how £20,000 can buy you a low mileage example like this one that beats any German or Japanese competitor.
Enjoy…

+ The last scene of the video may be misleading, please note that the Chimaera’s engine didn’t grow from 4 to 5 litres over its 11 years production span. Infact the full fat 500 came out in 1994, 3 years before the 450 with the small 400 being discontinued a year later in 1998.
