Stupid question, Are there racists in the u.k?., well yes, Is the entire country racist? no. Is it only white people who are racist? no. Do i have to like all POC so as not to be called racist? getting that way. if i don't like Kevin Hart because i don't find him funny doesn't make me a racist.

i agree with you, i think people of any ethnic minority experience racism in this country, even from a really young age and even if the person doing it doesn't realise they're being racist. I haven't experienced any overt racism but I can clearly remember times when I've been asked things like 'no, but where are you really from' or if we are learning about a different religion or culture and teachers will constantly ask me 'how do you pronounce that' and i'm just like i don't know fam, i was born here, my parents were born here. when i was in primary school people would constantly call me dark chocolate and one time one guy called me the n word and when i asked him why he said "well black people say it to each other all the time" and i was like, firstly, i'm not black, secondly, that does not make it ok for you to say it to anyone, ever. and i think these are things that people from all ethnic minorities experience.

Funny is that the south asian community is the largest ethnic minority in the UK. They make up around 5-7% of the UK. Black People in the UK only make up around 3% of the UK the majority being of African or Caribbean descent (about 18 Africans for every 11 Caribbeans in the UK). Oriental Asians probably make up around 1%. West Asiand (Turks, Arabs, Iranians) could make up around 2% I think. I dunno about Latinos we do have that community but they are borderline invisible in the UK

@NoMarz Colony mate I’ve been turned down from loads of job applications during my 30yr life. I’ve been told I’m not what they’re looking for. There is a whole plethora of reasons as to why I was turned away so often but my skin colour is definitely not one of them! Black people feel better making it seem like they’re being held back somehow instead of facing up to there failures. I'm white, lived in the UK my whole life. Spent most of my childhood/teens being called a Nazi because my mother is German. I used to think that was bollocks that the poor white people were just as worse off in those times but it seems judging by what we vote for we're enabling the toff cunts to be these imperialistic goons, nationalism seems to have taken root and there is a sense of a superiority complex, I feel currently with them making stupid gestures like removing episodes from TV programs for something they see as an infraction is actually being used to create more racism by having the rightwing nuts think black people are ruining their classics when I imagine to a black person removing some episode to some old TV show is trivial and not what it's about because it's avoiding fixing the system.

@@elelonger4409 By no means did I mean they can't talk about the experience they've faced. It's just, I think my problem, is with the title question. With the BLM movement it makes sense that we're getting reflection from Black people from our country in this video, however the word "Racism" isn't just towards black people. It should've been a more specific question. I'm not saying the "All lives matter" stuff, I'm just saying please be more specific, because if Buzzfeed really want to raise awareness for BLM and on Racism towards black people specifically, it should be asked specifically. Otherwise it's such a broad question and I was expecting other races and ethnicities to be in the video. The UK is by no means perfect, but what country is? There's racism in every country, that's all I was trying to say by saying by, "What country doesn't have racism?". The video was still insightful and I'm appreciative to everyone sharing their testimonies, it's always an honour for someone to share such personal information, so a massive thank you to those who shared their opinions and hardships in life. Much Love. ~

@Victoria Akoms When I was in college, we were just making noise as teens. The lecturer said “don’t treat me how you treat your women” I once went to a job interview and the director came in 30 mins late at his office, he went to Tesco apparently. When he interviewed me he said about fitting in the culture slurring in a way and saying “you know culture, religion” I replied, I’m not that religious, he smiled and said, it’s not just that. Every job in an office someone brings up the Muslim talk, I always reply back with “I don’t talk about religion or politics at work” They’ll scream my name and have tantrums, they’ll push me to work harder whilst my Caucasian colleagues can do nothing all day. I once worked at an insurance firm, walked in on the second day and two guys were walking down the stairs, I over heard one say to the other “you’ve got a few brownies here” and they both laughed. That same insurance firm hired a black manager and one day on outlook they they all had a brown bourbon chocolate face meme and they were all giggling. I’ve had a man read out my name from a list and say “that’s a terrorist name” whilst laughing and smiling. I’ve seen pot heads who aren’t really polished in anyway surpass me at work by rank, even though I get given the complex and tough stuff, because I bother to learn and be better. I’ve had a manager tell me “you know that I don’t really agree with your culture” I sometimes think to myself, my dad was a school teacher, my grandfather was a politician. Why should I let children of trailer trash labourers put me down. That’s what the racists are to me. I walked with a Jamaican friend of mine and a white old lady called him a jungle bunny. The worst feeling is being born in this country but not feeling accepted, going back home and not being fully accepted there as well as we’re Brit Asians, where do we really belong? I have 100 more stories, but what’s the point? British people are very diplomatic and good at covering things up ay? You have to work 5 times harder, dress as sharp as you can, never take a sick day and always burn yourself out. When you do get promoted by a good manager or because you put the ball on your court (joining a competitor for higher pay and they’re not paying you enough for what you do), you have all the lazy ones gang up on you and try to sabotage you.

From LBC news: "As of 2023, the UK is one of the least racist nations in the world a new study has found, just months after the United Nations labelled it 'institutionally racist’. According to results released on Thursday by the World Values Survey (WVS), just 2% of Britons now feel uncomfortable about the idea of living next door to somebody of a different race. Collated by the Policy Institute at King’s College London as part of the WVS, the survey compares a sample of 3,056 UK adults aged 18+ and remains one of the most widely used social surveys in the world. The UK are also among the most likely to say they trust people in their neighbourhood (84%) according to the study. The results make striking reading when contrasted by comments made in January by the United Nations (UN). According to the organisation, systematic racism is rife within the UK and is eroding the rights of black people according to findings by experts from the UN's Human Rights Council."

@@adamadams7314 The answer is both, though, because they are almost, if not completely, the same by definition. For racism to exist, we need to have a system where minorities are oppressed, and racism manifests in many ways in these places. This system is created by stereotypes and prejudice. That's how racism itself is born. So, if a person asks "is there racism in the UK?" then they are talking about the system and the racist people. In case there is not racism by the lack of a system, but something similar to it is observed, it should be called "racial prejudice". I had to report a hate crime to my local police yesterday. Something I don’t like happened while I was simply walking on the pavement during the day. I’ve lived in 5 countries in my life and so far I feel I’m unwelcome in the UK. When I was taking an English class online, my English tutor stretched her fingers to pull her eyes up while she was talking about kids in my home country. This gesture is known as racism towards East Asian. Each class was recorded and they were sent to students afterwords, that’s why I still have the video. To be honest, I had a bad experience which was done by a black British woman when I was at college. She was often telling everyone at the class, she daily gets racism towards her at work but she kept going on about covid saying she thinks it is from China and before she said this, she made sure to look at me and say, “sorry if you are from China, I don’t mean to offend you “ despite the fact I introduced her I’m from an East Asian country which is not China. My teacher reached me out and helped me to say “she is not from China”. Even if I was, I don’t think she should have repeated the same thing. I even had lunch together with her so I didn’t understand. Being ignored is normal thing which I get used to, treating differently at cashier is a usual thing, I don’t fight against these kind of stupid actions. Not worth it. This is where my husband is from, I like British food and traditional British culture, I just don’t get why people need to seek conflict.

@@thehoneyeffect considering this is a British video featuring british ethnic minorities. Im sure they could have found 2 times as many Asian people over Black considering the UK is only 3% black and 7-9% Asian (5% if you only include South Asians). But trust me there are lots of us who do support or speak out against it. Not that the video isn't necessary - I'm totally fine with black people telling their stories - but I don't think that anyone truly thinks that the UK isn't a racist country. Even if they say they don't think it's racist, they know in their hearts that it is. I'm a white American so I understand racism very well and I can say that in my 5 years of living of living in the UK that, in some respects, the UK is even more racist than the US. The wild part is that all my black friends back home want to move here because they think that it's better and I literally cant get them to see that it's not.

In my opinion, experience wise. I have had some form of Racism done to me. I'm not a white English and I'm a British Asian. Around late 2000's were the times I'd been affected by racism quite a bit. This was in East London where I grew up in a very white neighbourhood that was struck with poverty. After I moved to Limehouse (10 mins away from Canary Wharf) the racism had decreased a lot but I noticed there still was an element of racism present. Just that it was more concealed. Now here I am today living in Rochester, Kent and since I moved here. I have not experienced a single racist white person! Of course there are racists everywhere but the awareness and the knowledge of what happens if you are racist is very strong here. I feel very safe here. Judging by other's experiences, I can make a safe conclusion. Ethnic minorities feel more safe overall in the UK than in America and Australia.

Not something to do right now because of the new covid but in the future that is something I would love. I hope what I said made sense let’s wake up and move forward for a better future than remain blind to the problem. 🙏🙏🙏😍😍😍 . That is my dream I hope all pray for this great video and on behalf of my race even tho I don’t know them personally I just have to say “SORRY 😢 FOR THE HURT WE CAUSE TO PEOPLE WHO ARE EXACTLY THE SAME EXCEPT FROM DIFFERENT PIGMENT IN OUR SKINS SMH “ The media and the police and government keep us defied make this look worse than it is now I’m not saying their is no racists here but we know that’s not true but the reason they make it look worse is to keep us all apart cause if we are all distracted we are never looking to the elites and what they are doing because if ever race stood together side by side it would be their worst nightmare. The reason this systematic racism with the police happens and the time is to cause tension between races. I ask how do we fix it ? Made we stop 🛑 looking to each other but instead look up to the puppet masters at the top running the world 🌍. I’m just here to open up a dialogue and I would love to have the chance to hear and listen 👂 and have a civil and open heart felt conversation. Much love 💕💕💕 To any reader I hope yous all stay safe during the pandemic 😷 God Bless 🙏🙏🙏😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ @BUZZFEEDUK

I have been under attack since a gang of Romanians attacked my front door when i reported them dealing drugs on the corner facing my home July 2019. 3 years have passed and the main attacker tried to run me over three times a year after the house attack. He has just been allowed to run back home to Romania just before sentencing for Dangerous driving. Should of been attempted murder but the same officer that give him a secret caution for showing remorse over the front door damage ,questioned him for dangerous driving not attempt murder. The same Police officer that had my wife and me arrested in 2020 for Police harassment and questioned me for harassment of the Labour Councillor there on the night of the attack. Who refused to go to court and tell the jury about the weapon thrown at me that he gave to the Police and they later denied its existence. Both Police and Councillor lost there cases. So police arrested me for a further 13 accusations of public order and harassment on the 999 callers and witnesses of the house attack in 2019 who like the councillor 10 of the 11 witnesses did not attend court after being asked by the Police not to attend . So i would be found guilty of affray in my own race attack. I have cctv of the attack all the 999 calls with the reports of white race abuse and threats to burn our house down. Redacted off the 999 calls by the same Police officer that took us to court and lost. this country is very xenophobic too living here 11 years as a foreign white guy from east europe... u can easily find yourself in a corner of society... in general people wont treat u same they might not be showing it to your face but in their minds u always wont be equal or they might think something worse about you ... which is clear stupidity and ignorance.... secondly mainly because of this u will hardly very hardly make any good friendships cz the other side wont be interested ... so no social life unless u meet some foreign people but even foreign people are here very divided (nationality vise) difference is they treat u as equal even tho they arent so friendly as u would wish but u could form friendships when u get in bigger groups .... I did not have that luck cz I am only meeting people at work and people there arent really interested to make friendships at all... they are nice talkative too but outside of work they are all strangers so its all just colleague sort of interaction nuthin more... I have tried to form friendships at more workplaces with people in my age group ...I had no luck in that too people were simple not interested... when it comes to relationships and looking for a partner then again its differs with a gender forean females are able to form relationships and I have seen many forean woman married to a British guy... but when it comes to forean males I maybe have seen 1-2 couples like that in past 11 years since I moved to uk.... I know surely there are more but on average comparing to females difference is huge its like 1 to 100.... its really huge..... I am not saying these issues are only related to uk sure some other countries are same too.... or even worse but there are countries which are miles better too.... I find uk very xenophobic .... as forean guy I have to deal with loneliness prejudice .... brexit havent even surprised me and its sad that there are things in nowadays society such as these.... I think issue is with close minded type of people who are very ignorant and hateful towards anything that does not fit in their small bubble.... and then they create hate and build walls (for stupidiest reasons such as skin colour or our nationality....) between themselves and us normal people... I treat every human same and things such as your skin colour nationality or accent arent things that ever made me to not approach u or treat u differently.... my mindset is not programed like that .... I find racism and xenophobia ugly and horrible its like thinking of others that there are less of a human being than me... I am absolutely against it because this is absolute disgusting.... but yes here I am 11 years in uk facing loneliness thanks god I live with family.... but because of such reasons that I have mentioned above I am really suffering mentaly here ... over past few years I really lost mindself it almost feel like I fell in a big hole from which it will be very difficult to climb back up .... I am mentaly drained I dont even enjoy hobbies any more or normal daily activities.... it also affected my health too.. this lifestyle... I am very outgoing person but here I just lost interest going outside because I have noone to go out with and being outside alone really sucks maybe only summer time its sometimes ok but other than that it feels like punishment or torture seeying people enjoying their social life or seeying them couples and I have to walk alone and years goes by and by.... ofc lot of people cant understand that or told me faritailes how it will get better .... but reality is not like that....which i probably could not learn better than here.... i really regret moving to uk I was 16 when my family moved here so at such age what could I have known? I am not here to explain myself too deply too ofc lot of people will disagree with me or try to insult me ... u can do whatever u want to... I would like to hear opinions of other forean people especially males who are here single if they are feeling somewhat same here and how long are they here in uk... I am here 11 years so I had plenty of time and experiences here to form my opinion about uk.... British people please do not bother respoding your side of view ... I am not against it problem is it wont explain anything because being native somewhere is entirely different and u will hardly ever experience xenophobia and such things in country where u were born.... I am not saying u cant experience racism but xenophobia surely not... On positive side of things when it comes to British people I find and had best experience with black people they never made me feel like I am big stranger or less... or tried to keep their distance from me.. I felt lot more equal around these people.... I cant even imagine what kind of hell these people or their ancestors have been through ...terrible things which I cant even compare my situation with ... so like they say people who arent ever hungry will never understand ones who are starving in other words people who were never oppressed will never understand those who were oppressed..... to finish this most eye beating situations of xenophobia and racism I have experienced online on dating apps where I got blocked when I shared my facebook and girl found out that I am forean cz of my surname... or solid convos which turned into not responding or even blocking me at times when girl found out that I am not British... I know this might sound funny or like this is nuthin to some people... oooh boy its just internet people arent like this in real life.... let me now correct you ooh this is just internet well yes it is and fact is that lot of people are more honest there than in real outside world because of less fear... its easier to hide behind online profile than tell people such things to their face isnt it? so internet does often reveal true colours of some people.... thats all I wanted to say stay strong ... I will always be honest ... never fear to speak from your heart... we living in a world where most important to many people is to hear idealistic things instead of real honest words..... I am sick of these lies..... people are afraind to speak truth ... I am not even if whole world turn their backs on me I am gonna be me

This video is interesting to hear different peoples thoughts. But quite a few people in this video seem to just presume someones being rasicst when they a likely not being. There was a guy who said when he is walking behind someone, they get intimidated becasue he is black - how does he know? I'm not saying it wasn't that, but it could be because he's a big tall guy and thats intimidating, or the person may be intimidated just becasue he's a bloke. There was a girl in this video aswell, who said someone was being nasty about her hair, she said "just admit your a racist" - how is some person critsing your hair racist!? What has hair got to do with someone ethnicity? And the girl saying she turned up for a job interview and they said that she's not what they are looking for - what proof is there that they rejected her becasue she was black? again just presuming she didn't get the job because of her ethnicity, maybe she didn't perform well enough in the interview or didn't have the correct qualifacations they were looking for.

Segregation is nothing to do with racism in Birmingham, for example Handsworth is a predominantly black and was predominantly an Irish area before that Sparkhill is a predominantly Asian area and was predominantly Irish before that , its called settling in and they were settling in areas if you like. Erdington is predominantly polish ? Alum rock is predominantly asian? For example is China Town deemed as a racist are ? Is the gay quarter ,herse Street hetero- phobic? Is the Irish Centre racist? Just because people are divided doesnt nessercarily mean there's "division" People live in diffrent Houses doesn't mean they hate their neighbours. It's not primary school where you have to sit boy girl boy girl. People are accustomed to certain types of food ,certain types of religions , certain types of clothes so that is how these areas are formed initially. Birmingham is one of the most least racist places in the UK and the most multi diverse. Birmingham was one of the first football teams to have black hooligans in their gang . Birmingham was where the balti orginated from networking with Asians curries and aderhering it to the Western palate. We do have areas where certain communities live more (like more Asian Americans live on the Pacific coast due to it’s location to Asia and more Mexican Americans along our Southern border), but segregation is not allowed. Some places in the US are still segregated, of course, but the US is about the size of Europe and all of our land is inhabited. I never experienced it growing up so can I hear more about what it’s like?

@cnickolas1843 As a black man from London every northern white man not woman I’ve met has spoke to me like I’ve just got in the country even though I’m born here lived nowhere else gone on holiday to the carribean twice in my life and have lived in England for over 40 years. Weird type of energy that I don’t get from white men from London or the south unless they are a racist which they let it be known by their behaviour.

looking at these comments makes me sad. these experiences the people in this video are talking about are regular occurrences for them all because of their skin colour. this country was built on the back of slaves and we were paying back slave traders until 2015 for their loss of “human property”. yes it would have been nice to see other BAME individuals included but we should look with less scrutiny and look more at the message behind this video. they are simply trying to educate and shed light on their experiences and until everyone, regardless of skin colour, is treated equally in this country, the U.K. is racist. #blacklivesmatter

I assume you are aware that whites have also been taken into slavery by Africans? www.hannenabintuherland.com/usa/larry-elder-more-whites-brought-as-slaves-to-north-africa-than-blacks-to-us-herland-report/ People constantly talk about slavery. Nobody seems to mention that Africans took white slaves as well. Even from Britain www.bbc.co.uk/history/british/empire_seapower/white_slaves_01.shtml

Well duh lol is this really a question? Of course as an American we speak English because our ancestors were colonized by the English!! 🤦🏾‍♀️🤣🤣🤣 If u look up stats in the UK they are almost identical to those here in the US as far as being stopped, arrested, & brutalized by the police. Europe as a whole has colonized the world & enforced racist rule & ideology all over the world! They English in general are more polite & PC so of course it’s not spoken about as much but here are real English black people giving their experiences & people will still find ways to invalidate them 🙄🤦🏾‍♀️ So sad when there are countless documentaries about racism toward black/African people in just about every country in all parts of the world. But since Europeans/whites are “tired” of hearing about it & it’s no longer “tending” they just dgaf 💯🤷🏾‍♀️

2:00 actually for the uk, slavery was only a small part of this country being built. but i do agree that the system was built to benefit rich white men
@hwwh8145
@hwwh8145 4 жыл бұрын
That's not even true. What's more damaging is the assumption that only the rich benefitted from slavery. An average person who had the means to 'invest' in a slave would and could do so. Londons dockland area was built on slave money. The banks we have profited on slavery. Let's not forget the industrial revolution. Tobacco, cotton, sugar....the lost goes on. This dissonance that people have here is the exact problem we're talking about.

@@hwwh8145 Not disagreeing, but the lives of a lot of indigenous British people wasn't that much better than the slaves; processing that cotton & sugar, or digging coal, smelting iron etc.

Of course, most of people will agree on slavery being a terrible thing! Remember thought, that slavery was used against many people, including british people, who where enslaved by arab merchants from northern africa, in the 16 and 17 century, no one talks about that, racial like gender, or religious discrimination is horrible no matter the "race" or group of people that experience that discrimination!
@meekos699
@meekos699 2 жыл бұрын
@@hwwh8145 Also, the US was originally a British colony & the British introduced slavery here before the colonists who formed our country even got here. It’s not all the UK’s fault, of course not, but your country did introduce slavery to colonies.
