I can’t help but believe the sudden “Overseas is the next ‘it’ watch” narrative is mainly because “influencers” can still get their hands on them. I own one myself and think the fineness, detail and understatement leave virtually all other steel watches in the dust. But that’s not what “collectors” want these days. They want hype. Most reviews don’t even mention the Geneva seal. A Geneva seal. On a durable sports watch. Timing is highly suspect. Buy up all these out of the market, and they’ll be talking up the Octo next. Because they can get them. Because they need to put out content.

I got mine in October after about 6 months wait. I was told this year they only received 5 in Vegas. I sold my Overseas chrono once I got the 4500V but if you have a big wrist the 5500V is a great readily-available option.

It really depends on region and probably purchase history more. Someone in the comments mentioned they received theirs in 6 months, I’ve also heard over 12-18 months from some others.

Its getting very hard to buy, if you see one - simply buy it. My VC AD said they have stopped taking orders for the blue dial and all future production is already allocated to people who have paid deposits. I own a VC Overseas chronograph blue dial. You never get sick of looking at the watch on all sides.

I just got the black dial version, I prefer it.. more under the radar (all my watches are black dial, even my solid gold Rolex - 126619LB)... This now completes my Holy Trinity sport watch collection and I sincerely think this is the finest of the 3.. That said, I don't see it hitting $100K until we get out of this world economic recession,.

From a personal preference perspective I would make that trade. But that doesn’t mean you should. Right now it’s too hard to predict where the value of the ap is headed because the regular Royal Oak will need to bounce back long before the offshores do. Values aside, I would go and check out the overseas in person and evaluate whether it’s more fun to wear and you don’t miss the chunky more brash nature of the Offshore

Great video man. Gotta nit pick you slightly tho… you said the fifty six doesn’t have the Geneva seal. Only the base model with calibre 1326 doesn’t have the seal. That’s a Cartier derived base. The others are in house and carry the Geneva seal.

Excellent video. VC watches are simply great, I brought the VC Overseas Chronograph with Blue dial early in 2020 - everything about the watch is sensational. My AD told me VC are not taking orders for the blue dials anymore, and they don't know when they will be able to take orders. The average experience of the watch makers working on these types of watches is at least 20 yrs plus. The watch bracelet/strap system is great, and you can order other colours of the straps as well, eg Leather and rubber. So with the one watch you can change its appearance, and they are happy to sell them. I also brought a second stainless steel bracelet to put away, VC have no issues with this, eg try and ask Rolex for a spare bracelet. Also remember VC make only around 20,000 watches p/a, so any VC is rare.

The reason they don't use a hacking mechanism it damages the balance wheel. Besides what do you think you are a swat member of the US seals???

Haha, I'm sure they could sort it if they really wanted to! Damage is minimal considering Rolex, who recommends 10 year service intervals, has no problem with hacking. Being such a premium watch, it should come with the corresponding experience. Even Patek introduced hacking into their 5711 from 2019 onwards :)

Can you please explain at least in the US why this watch hasn’t really caught on? It’s like the forgotten brother of the trilogy. I want to get one but I’m not sure if it’s a good investment or not at least at the moment. I was recently offered one on the grey market for U$45,000 brand-new box and papers 2021. I know if I hold it at least for a year the watch should go up in price but in the short-term I can lose quite a bit of money if I resell it. It’s one of those things that are a tough choice. I might be better off with an AP 15500st in grey or black. The blue it’s too expensive. Any thoughts on this anyone?

It’s really cool that you asked this question because I have a friend who literally just bought one on the grey market for $47k brand new 2021. It’s not this watch in the video. Personally, I think $45k is actually a reasonable market value considering that this technically one of the big three (5711, 15202, 4500V). Vacheron simply hasn’t caught on in the US market yet because rappers aren’t mentioning them yet and I think that will change very soon in 2022. There’s already a new wave of Vacheron interest across KZbin as well which previously didn’t exist. You are right, short term you can easily lose $1-2k usd or more if you need to flip it but I think it’s a very good hold long term(>6 months). Vacheron is seriously tightening supply of this exact model everywhere and I think it has greater potential in % appreciation over the 15500. Short term AP will do better but I think this will see a sharper appreciation curve from April onwards. It’s naturally just speculation but that’s the same for all watches. But keep in mind, if you wear the piece and it’s no longer brand new, there is a higher probability of losing money short term than the same with a 15500.

Meh, nice watch but I'd take a RO or Nautilus over this any day. Great finishing, but unoriginal and uninspiring. But hey, at least it's better than the GP Lorreato that everyone is trying to pump the hype on next.

I find it to be the opposite haha! I absolutely despise how cheap and flimsy the nautilus feels. It feels like its still being made in the 70s. Although the RO is pretty nice, particularly the bracelet. I find the overseas design pretty inspired too. I really like the Maltese cross accents in the design language. I haven’t tried GP yet.

Have a few RO and ROO as well as picking up a black 4500v last month. I would put RO over 4500 by a hair, and Nautilus being way overrated. I once got cash on hand ready to buy a 5712, but was very underwhelming when I tried it on. It’s a decent watch, but definitely not worth the price I’m willing to pay now.
