I own a 23 ID4 made in the USA and we love it Our Pro S AWD is really an Audi with a different body and can be repaired if anything would ever happen where we live you can’t even buy a Tesla in this state much even get serviced . You sound so snarkey if it isn’t a Benz ev or a BMW .

Ours is great. Something so many reviewers never touch on is the integrated roof rails for roof racks coming standard, and the relatively high tow rating of 2700lbs. This thing replaced our car and our truck and let us downsize to a one vehicke family because it does it all. Tows our tent trailer, hauls a whack of gear and kods around, drives great, and has phenomenal safety ratings even in the newest tests. Are back window buttons annoying? Sure. But the car is a good car, and delivers a lot of utility for the price.

These touch sensitive controls are the things that I dislike in new cars. Just make it simple with knobs, buttons and switches.

I noticed when I had it in sport that I becomes a lot less bouncy.

Needs a bigger battery for more range, pre-conditioning and route planning for re-charging. Maybe the next iteration.

I think this is one of the few ID S videos. Thank you! I think for the $$$ it's a good deal and only Hyundai/Kia can compete. Standard equipment is very good also. I think VW claims this is the fastest to 60 mph for the RWD ID4. Smaller battery, less range, lighter weight, good charging speed .. good size.. good driving dynamics. I wish we got a back 2 back comparison with RWD pro s. Good review

It would be great if interior or at least infotainment was the same as in ID.7 but it looks like you can't have anything

So nothing was fixed in its 3rd model year with a 1/2 A attempt at the infotainment system. The ID Buzz is going to have the same interior probably in the high 50's to start.

would be nice if you reviewed the new model, not the 3 year old one. new model has new suspension, new motors, new battery charging technology, new software and screen, better range etc. this review would be relevant for 3 years ago, not today :)

2024s aren't available for us to review yet, but VW has expressed interest in making sure we get into one as soon as possible.

I drove the VW id4 when it debuted. Very nice interior. Comfortable ride. Drove like the typical EV. But I drove the single motor version. It was SLOW to accelerate. Just 201 HP. Sub-300 mile range. During winter, you get even less promised range. You may be looking at less than 150 miles of range, and for me, I have to charge my EV back to 100% the moment I see 50 miles remaining. I'd have to go with the Tesla Model Y instead. TESLA's charging network - at least here in NYC - is amazing. I witness Tesla's pull in, supercharge, and leave their 8 stalls in the amount of time I'm fumbling with the barely functional EVgo charger or the crowded Electrify America charger. Tesla's Supercharger is a killer app and until the iD4 can make use of it, I'd have to go with the Tesla. That said, VW did a great job with this car, but they need to fix the infotainment system and add a proper window panel switch system. Activating the rear windows as is was annoying.

OK, I actually like the two window switches. I've rolled down the wrong window many times having all 4 there.

No thanks. Who wants a $20k battery replacement looming over this modest fast depreciating car at 100k? You can buy any great fast depreciating M278 luxury Mercedes and get a sure thing $35k genading engine for the same satisfying junkyard result. German cars are a special delight.

This isn't eligible for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit, so the $44000 Tesla Model Y will probably cost you less, at $36500.

Yes and no. The ID.4 does not CURRENTLY show up on the list of eligible vehicles, EVs placed in service after January 1, 2024 (www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/tax2023.shtml). I reached out to VW about this and a company spokesperson said they’re in the process of confirming eligibility for federal EV tax credits. The VW rep said, “We are optimistic that MY 2023 ID.4s and all MY 2024 ID.4s will be eligible under the new rules.” Basically, it sounds like the paperwork is being handled right now. And the Model Y is a far superior EV with a dependable public charging network and over the air updates with a very usable multimedia system. The ID.4 has none of these things.

The prices are below the average vehicle price, EVs are starting to get cheaper than ICE cars.

7 of the 16 cars we evaluated for our EV of the Year had a starting price LESS than the average new car transaction price. Which we applaud. On the other hand, new car transaction prices also keep going up.
