A review as you would like to see it from others. Coincidentally ordered the Yaesu yesterday, but had I seen this review before, I wouldn't have had to hesitate to order it. Wonderful piece of technology.

I’ve actually been considering either this or the ic2730a. Glad I saw this review. Thank you!

@@mikehume1540 In the same boat. I prefer Yaesu FTM-6000 over IC2730, because it looks cooler and has a data port, that I may use (one day) to play with digital modes.

I realize this video is 2 years old, but regarding the lack of mic jack in the detachable head. A lot of people put the display head on the sun visor and the radio under the seat with the mic cord running up between the seats. That way if you throw the mic under the seat and flip the sun visor up, no one can see any part of the radio from outside the car. The display is right in front of your face if you need to change something and the mic can be hidden quite easily under a newspaper or something if you don't want it under the seat. I like this radio for the same reasons you pointed out: Its simple. That is GOOD while driving. I feel a radio in a car does not need to do packet, digital wiz-bangery or a host of other things.

I would buy one of these right now if there is an open transmit mod that would cover GMRS and MURS frequencies. I know, I know it is illegal to transmit on those frequencies. It would be great to rely on one radio in an emergency. 73 and nice review!

A great follow up to the FT-7900 for those of us who aren't interested in digital voice. Interesting they include a long head unit cable but as per the review there's no mic socket on the head so you need a long mic extension which is not included. They should either include both cables or neither.

Hi, if you are scanning, when you key up, does it transmit on whatever channel it happens to be on, or can you set a priority channel or something?
@jbinsc
@jbinsc 2 жыл бұрын
Keying the mic while scanning just stops the scan. HRO had these on sale for $199.00 recently, that’s a pretty good deal for a Made in Japan dual band mobile.

Reading and watched many reviews about the 6000, some not very flattering and largely based on assumptions rather than hands-on experience. Go with the hand-son experience reviews before you decide. Simply put, it is not perfect but it is right for me.

I would buy for $249.95 that's it . Dualband only 1 band at a time" . Narrow tx has no purpose. Decent looking analog FM radio. The radio looks tuff and durable . Yaesu needs ditch RJ-45 mic connectors use the 8npin barrel types. Lot yaesu mics break after 2 years cord or wire pulls out connector . They should kept making Ft 7900 it seems lot there radios discontinued to quickly.

I don’t understand why yaesu can’t make something like the ft-1500 anymore. No fan..simple, and super small. No removable face though.
@techstuffandmore
@techstuffandmore 2 жыл бұрын
They do. FT-2980 has no fan either. But keep in mind that these aren't dual band radios. Not the same requirement for cooling.

Here is the problem with all these amateur grade equipment - they're amateurish and not completely thought through. The software features are nice but the lack of a mic connector for the faceplate is downright stupid. And it is obvious Yaesu still uses that micky mouse connector for the mic which will break off sooner than later. I'm using Motorola commercial gear and have never looked back.
@LWRC
@LWRC 2 жыл бұрын
@@christianh7863 Motorola is a commercial radio manufacturer. It just so happens their radios can be used in the amateur bands. You obviously don't know the reason nor the differences on the rigs!
