Is there a SOLUTION for BAD Steering on a Classic VW? | STOP the RUBBING SCRUBBING on a lowered VW

Regardless of HOW BAD the reproduction TRW steering boxes are, we attempt to fix this issue with rebuilding the factory steering box. Will it get better? Time to find out.

Those extended control arms are slick...never liked how the wheels weren't centered on lowered cars. I'm currently going to static lower my 63 and I'm sure using these will help reduce any rubbing. Great video!!! Informative and inspiring!!!! Cant wait to dive into my project ... I'll definitely be looking at using parts from AirKewld.

My first car was a '56 Bug. Luckily I grew up in the center of the VW universe, Oc LA county border because nothing aftermarket ever fit my car. Learned so much just figuring out how to make bad parts work. Ron @ German Auto, VW Gold mine, Johnny's, Moore, Rancho, Bill & Steve's, VW Unlimited, Mackenzie's, EMPI, even Lummus helped me out once.

Nice work enjoyed the use of more rust proofing. Located in the south east it's aways a problem around here especially on engine builds. Glad to see another age-old process put back in action.

The bluing is good. I'm doing that on a part of a product I am shipping at the beginning of October. It works great to protect the parts, and it doesn't take very long at all to do.

@@AirkewldVWs I started my own business developing parts for aircooled VW's. I'm concentrating mostly on totally new designs. I'm not really trying to create things that compete with anyone, just charting my own path. I'm using the bluing on a mounting system for my all new cooling fan design. I have used two different vendors bluing solutions. I'm not sure which one I like best yet, but looking at your parts, I'm wondering which solution you are using?

@@AirkewldVWs Pete, Yeah I ordered and got it a couple months ago, and of course it's perfect, however when I got my car on the lift to install it, I noticed some rust that the previous owner covered up with a piece metal poprivited over top the rust... I started digging more and found more things like very bad heater channel with metal just tack welded to the top of the channel and then to the floor. (It was very bad!! I am now waiting on metal to replace the rust and bad work, if got the heater channels replace already and I think that was the biggest part. Since I have the car this far apart, I'm doing all that I want now. Im going to do airride on it so I will be ordering that kit once I get to that part. I guess it good that I already have your 4 inch narrowed beam. sorry so long. ( I get to rambling when I talk about my project) thanks for everything, Rob

Pete, another great video. Should the shims equal the difference between upper and lower arms? What is in your spray bottle that you use for clean up?

Hey Bill, thanks for the comment and question. The German's wanted there to be a specific call out so the book specifies what we should do. We go by that to keep things OE style. It really comes down to the the computer alignment, all things considered and the desired ride height and feel. Simple green in the bottle.

They can fit, but how you want them to fit might require a narrowed beam. These wheels are 17x7 fronts and 18x7 rears. 5x130mm bolt pattern.
