Yelan is better when: 1. you have another Hydro unit (resonance) 2. you don't need more resistance to interruption 3. you are fighting mobile enemy (thunderbird) 4. you are fighting bow-weak enemy (robot dinosaur) 5. you want slightly less hydro app than XQ 6. you are in the overworld

In reference to canadian units of measure : As a frenchie that spent half of my life as a monolingual, recipes (particularly fir baking) containing units like tsp, tbsp, cups and such were easy ways to clock haphazardly translated stolen recipes. Yes, there is. It's Raiden/Hydro/Furina/Jean. Raiden doesn't need resistance to interruption, she needs damage, and the extra Hydro application from Xingqiu in this team is unnecessary. Furina buffs Yelan more than Xingqiu, while Yelan buffs Raiden. Just make sure to use ATK% goblet on Raiden in this team to take full advantage.

Xingqiu's defensive utility & better application is wasted on it, as you heal to full health at the start of every rotation, and with Furina & Yelan on the team, you have plenty of hydro to vape already. Trading that for her A4 passive, higher damage & Elegy EM buff is a much better option.

The teams I've found that most strongly prefer Yelan over Xingqiu are Eula, Navia, and any overworld team. I think there are more teams that "require" Xingqiu than Yelan, such as Hu Tao single hydro, but beyond that a lot of it is personal preference, skill, and what you're fighting. There's also kind of an interesting bell curve where it's like - if you need no defensive utility at all because you're speedrunning, Yelan is better, if you need a bit more than that than Xingqiu becomes better, but if you take too much damage even with that then you need to run an additional character for it and Yelan might become better again. The presence of Furina and adding more healers back into the meta muddies it even further, which is great, there are a lot of options now.

Since furina appeared, i have barely used him. Except for nilou bloom, he helps keep nahida alive. Other than that, the pairing of furina and yelan is too good he just can't keep up. Its also nice her artifacts are uncontested. Whereas xinqiu wants the same artifacts as alot of other characters.

as a yoimiya main, i run YYYZ (yoimiya yelan yunjin zhongli) very frequently. zhongli is by himself enough defensive utility that yelan (and i have her c1) is better 95+% of the time due to her offensive utility for yoi being favoured then. xingqiu + anemo + flex (e.g. furina jean or bennett kazuha) would have higher dps ceiling than any of yoi's teams with zhongli, but i don't have kazuha, so i just use yelan + zhongli. in most other teams, yelan needs some vertical investment to be objectively considerable as better than xingqiu (ideally c1 elegy or even c2 elegy) and even then she still wouldn't be a full upgrade if the team needs xq's protection (e.g. hu tao without zhongli, especially if hu tao is either c0 or using shimenawa)

on Rasional i prefer XQ over Yelan, i have been try yelan in those team but her up time is sort and not having dmg reduction is not comfort to play (for me as mid skill player). IN LAST 3 YEARS i got not a single keqing but some times aggrevate is the way to go. i am very uncomfortable with raiden agreevae with nahida. her marking of enimies is very hard to achieve when my ei wipes all mobs mark by her and i end up doing her 7 sec n2c combo with out any dendro. i find yao yao much better than nahida there as she keepson applying some dendro even after the 1st booba slah wipes the 1st spawn. its so hard to have a flow with c3 raiden. the enimies take too much time to spawn and i m there standing with purple sword in hand

That being said, I do still think it's worth it to note that characters like Hu Tao are a lot more knock-able with Yelan than Xingqiu. If you can or dodge decently (without it being a DPS loss), then it's not a big deal, but as someone who uses Hu Tao/Yelan/Furina/Jean, I tend to get staggered more when I do get hit, and it can be a bit annoying while also causing damage to be lost.

Yes Yelan has homing type tracking while XQ has pinpoint type tracking, if you use ranged char and especially if you're fighting against mobile enemies you can feel the difference, when i use Yoi or Wanderer i already use a shielder anyway, i dont need that much Hydro app for them and their uptime isnt more than 15 sec so Yelan is often a straight upgrade, but for me Raiden, Alhaitham, Furina + Kokomi mono, Wrio, Ayato, Cyno too is an upgrade because too i can dodge and all of my units are invested enough XQ is only better for me on pure hyperbloom with Nahida on-field but Alhaitham, Cyno driver just net better on clear time and damage, Hu Tao but Yelan + Furina + Jean is better most of the times and Taser with Sucrose driver but i barely use it anymore

It is just untrue, Yelan have much more personal damage and she buffs the on-fielder damage as well. She is basicly always "better" then Xingqiu if you play well. Basicly Xingqiu is better if you are play worse and need the defensive utility, but no team really want Xingqiu if it is want to achive the maximum damage it is can do, because Furina - Yelan duo is just so much better then Yelan - Xingqiu.

I've seen a lot of calcs. Usually xingqui plus furina, stand alone, will have more dmg than furina and yelan. Its because the on field is neither of them so yelan buff is gone while xingqui has res shred. But overall they end equal (if XQ is C6). Now when either of them have a 5star (when yelan has her sig) she out does xingqui hard.

If you have at least c2 Yelan is almost always better, only reason to prefer XQ in some cases is if you REALLY need extra defensive capabilities. I’ve never had to worry about having defensive utility i. Genshin impact and I’m not even good at the game. The Ai is usually way too brain dead to care about a little damage reduction. Also though maybe my Yelen is just insane since she does like 4x the damage if Xingqui with her sig.

She was good, but she is not Xingqiu. If you're comparing C6 Yelan to C6 Xingqiu, then sure. If you're comparing C0 Yelan to C0 Xingqiu, then no. She has more dmg, but Xingqiu has more hydro, more interruption resistance, more healing, more dmg reduction, and easier to buff (ATK scaling vs HP scaling). Even without his ult, Xingqiu still applies hydro passively with the rain swords.

We're talking availability on banners since 1.0 + countless rate ups + 2x appearance on starglitter shop per year + 3x lantern rite. Gonna be honest, I don't really care about the new player experience, and new players arguing over meta/pull value are beyond full of themselves. Same deal with XQ's weapon options. More importantly, how is Yelan less reliant on gacha weapons? XQ, depending on team, wants Fav, Sac, R5 HoD, and in very specific situations an option like Lion's roar. Yelan wants Fav or Recurve bow, and she CAN use Sac as well. Furina uses Festering desire (exclusive event weapon), Fleuve cendre, and occasionally Fav or HoD.
