So Hamburger isn't American, croissant isn't French, pasta isn't Italian fish and chips aren't British and so on. Israeli shawarma is different from Greek gyros, Turkish Donner and the Arab shawarma. Different cultures and even regions in the same cultures have different and unike variations of similar food. It's the different take those cultures make on those foods and also the popularity of those dishes that makes them 'national dishes'

How is "Israeli shawarma" any different than any other Levantine shawarma? Bottom line is that there is no such thing as an "Israeli cuisine" when literally every single dish is from another country. No other cuisine has this problem, there might be a few foreign dishes or dishes that are similar, but no other cuisine is entirely foreign.

Except you have to know the history of Israel was founded on the basis of Zionism and superiority over the Arabs and now they're out here claiming Arabic food as their own even though they hate Arabs. All the words of the dishes they name originated from the Arabic or the Turkish language none of it is Hebrew. It's like claiming that blood pudding was made in Indonesia.

Who is claiming that? In israel we call it md food not even israeli food. Again half of israelies are arabs that your friendly countries expelled from their homes. Thay brought the food to israel and today you have woderful diverst foods in israel. The only people politicizing food are your kind. In israel the jews and israeli palestinians learned to live with each other and share our cultures. The palestinian kitchen was influence from a wonderful world cuisin as well. Not everything is politics good food is good food. As for israel i know you do not beleive that but the jewish people came home. Thats it. We do not care what you and others think of us we found a home. The world understood that but all of the muslim states didnot and that is a shame. even today we prefere peace to conflict if only our cousins would prefere it too. As for israel look what we achieved in 150 years. Instead of fighting us and hate us for our religion, all of the arab states well those who are still with us should say show us how.

Isreal is made up of immagrants from all around the world who all have the religion of Judaism in common. It as if people are to tie a certain dish or ethnic traditions to a religion it doesn't work like that food and culture is mainly based on a region that why Greek food and Mediterranean food both clearly state there region of origin. Now to say that israels food is falafel and hummus is technically correct because isreal was built by stealing the region of Palestine and the culture that is tied in the region but by no means has "isreal" actually created these dishes they just took the land and culture from the native Palestinians of the region.

You are giving false facts as well as making false equivalence. The italiand and chinese invented noodles or pasta on their own. Seperate from each other. The Israelis stole their recipes directly from their neighbouring country's including the one they stole their land from.
@priscillad82 жыл бұрын
the pasta preparations between china and italy are very different, that's what defines the cuisine of each. Jewish foods are foods from certain regions made the Jewish way, that's no excuse to appropriate a type of food and say that it is theirs, falafel, kebab, hummus are Arab foods, it has to do with an ethnicity. Now speaking of Israel as a Jewish state that it is, it would be a culinary of fusion of all Jewish diasporas, this includes food from Eastern Europe, Yemen, Ethiopia, Syria, Iraq, if they eat falafel because they are in that region is ok, but appropriating is not ok. My country, for example, is the largest diaspora of Lebanese and Japanese outside their country, we don't even say that the food is ours

This is accompanied by Jewish persecution that led many to not speak or name anything in Hebrew. As a result, many dishes were named in Arabic, German, Yiddish, etc... It is impossible to claim that the Jews invented the dishes, but it is hard to deny that the Jewish communities in the diaspora had their print on many countries' cuisines.

hoda ahmad hahaha If you consider Palestine to be a "Sovereign" and "Independent" country that goes back through most of recorded history as many would have you to believe, then a few questions need to be answered: When was it founded and by whom? What were its borders? What was its capital? Who was the President? What was its form of government? What were its major cities? What constituted the basis of its economy? Who was the Palestinian leader before Yasser Arafat? Was Palestine ever recognized by a country whose existence, at that time or now, leaves no room for interpretation? What was the language of the country of Palestine? What was the prevalent religion of the country of Palestine? What was the name of its currency and what was the approximate exchange rate of the Palestinian monetary unit against the US dollar, German mark, GB pound, or Japanese yen on any particular date? And, finally, since there is no such country today, what caused its demise and when did it occur?

hoda ahmad idiot. 1. The Canaanites were sea people from Greece. And they all wiped out thousands of thousands years ago.2. All the Jews are original from Israel. Israel became a land in 1312 BCE. Even before the Christianity and the Islam were existed. All the Jews lived in Israel and tens Jewish kings controlled Israel for thousands years. Until in 70 BC the Romans took Israel from the Jews and sends millions Jews out of Israel- to the exile. The European Jews are the same Jews that the Romans forced them to left Israel. All the Jews are original from Israel 🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱❤️

I am one of those Jewish immigrants that you mentioned. Good idea to check your facts before making a video. Did yo say Israeli Jews immigrated to Israel 150 years ago?? Ummh! The state of Israel was formed in 1948 which makes it 73 years old, so how can Jewish immigrants immigrate to Israel 150 years ago ( when this country no longer existed) until just 73 years ago for Jewish immigrants to immigrate. The biblical Israel has not existed for 1000s of years. Around 722 B.C., the Assyrians invaded and destroyed the northern kingdom of Israel. In 568 B.C., the Babylonians conquered Jerusalem and destroyed the first temple, which was replaced by a second temple in about 516 B.C. For the next several centuries, the land of modern-day Israel was conquered and ruled by various groups, including the Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Fatimids, Seljuk Turks, Crusaders, Egyptians, Mamelukes, Islamists and others eventually there was no country or kingdom called Israel until 73 years ago so correction no Jewish immigrant migrated to Israel 150 years ago because it simply didn’t exist. There were of course Jews living in Palestine ,they were not immigrants,these were the Jews whose ancestors never left the region. Regarding food the majority of street food that you find in Israel is Mediterranean food typical of that region. It is not Jewish or Arabic. It is the typical food people have been eating in that region for centuries irrespective of religion. Syria,Lebanon to name a couple of neighbouring countries also eat very similar or same dishes. The Arabs and original Jews who lived in Palestine also ate almost the same food. But Jewish immigrants who came to Israel in 1948 and after brought with them the cuisine of their country initially. However except for very few exceptions majority of Israeli available ias street foo, or in markets and most restaurants are still typical Mediterranean food which has been cooked in a similar way for centuries. One does find ethnic cuisines brought in by Jewish immigrants but these are often called cuisine of the country they come not labelled as Israeli food. For example Georgian bread or Ethiopian injera or Polish stew etc. So yes Israel has a cuisine and it is the cuisine of that region which irrespective of whether or not that land was called Israel You will find the exactly same dishes in Syria,Lebanon, Iraqi etc. I am Israeli Jew ,originally my family lived in Poland.

The first wave of zionists (the first Aliya) started in the 1880s, only a little less than 150 years ago. They were indeed immigrants… and they established Rishon Letsion and Zikaron Yacov! and there had been a wave of Jews immigrating from the diaspora even before then haha. Not trying to say there weren’t Jews in the region before but I think that’s what the video was referring to with 150 years! And these were the people that brought their food customs with them :)

The "pocket" pita bread is unique to israel. Pita does exist is arab culture as a flat bread but not as a pocket in israeli street food.
