The only cameo I want from Rudy is at the conclusion of the final battle with Hitogami, his soul (which was summoned from the past when he was 34) appears next to the sealed Hitogami as a nod to The Final Dream. Plus, we'll finally get to hear what Orsted and co are thinking about seeing him. Makes me tear up a bit thinking about how joyful it would make Lara to finally have closure by introducing the man she missed her own father's funeral to search for.
@NatalieXHunter5 ай бұрын
That would be cool - a bit Star Wars, but cool. As for Lara, we don't know who she's searching for. The obvious answer is Akihito, but I think it could even be Laplace. She may see the way to make him whole again...
@GabeSweetMan5 ай бұрын
@@NatalieXHunter In the description of the group, Rudy identifies two of the men as asian. The first is talking to Orsted and Rudy specifically notes he has a "nice smile" which seems to imply this man is Akito as his smile is the defining feature the Blessed Child Lyria loved him for. Lara, meanwhile, is conversing with another Asian man whom bows with Lara towards Rudy before leaving the Barren World. Rudy describes him as "in his twenties, no older than 30." I suspect this may be Kuroki Satoshi, the 3rd friend Nanahoshi and Akito were having an argument with. The age difference is extremely interesting to consider since only 2 of the 3 were "missing" after the truck accident. Did he get left behind for a few years before being summoned himself or otherwise finding a way to the Six Faced World? Tons to speculate on but few conclusions to be drawn with such scant information... but my money's on it being Lara's fault. Why else would finding a single dude take literal decades?

Hmm... personally, it's a bit of both, I think. It is stated by Hitogami that normally a soul returns to mana and becomes part of the world, but he doesn't know what will happen to Rudeus. Which would indicate that there probably isn't an afterlife, as all normal people of the 6-faced world would completely stop existing after becoming mana. However, Nanahoshi doesn't have any mana at all, so in her case it would probably be similar to Rudeus where his soul was disappearing while searching for a body to inhabit, when he first crossed over, and would eventually turn into nothing. But that's only inside the 6-faced world, where apparently your soul is basically mana and so the universe tries to keep balance by returning it, however there's no real indication that the soul would expire outside of the 6-faced world. If you think about it, the fact that Rudeus even has a soul means that there is probably an afterlife for people outside of the 6-faced world. Because his soul was moving around trying to get somewhere for some reason, whereas we have no reason to believe that people in the 6-faced world have souls that do anything but breakdown after dying. And normal humans have no mana, so what is the reason for their soul? Since Rudeus has mana, his soul probably changed, but I think Nanahoshi would go to an afterlife if she returned to earth and then died. Otherwise, I suppose if she died in the 6-faced world then her soul would seemingly do what Rudeus' did and she would start from a would-be stillborn if one was available. Funny enough that would mean that the isekai'd guy who was sent off to war, and whose dying started everything, well... he might not have fully died but instead pulled a Rudy. Not that anybody would know that. That said, it's also possible that Hitogami just wanted to say one more "screw you" to Rudeus, to make him believe that everybody who died was gone for good. Or, for all we know, he might not know either. He's our only source, but he's not a reliable source. All in all it is interesting to think about, imo mainly because the 6-faced world supposedly has a logical conclusion to a soul's end, but it doesn't apply in a world without mana.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rudius and Eris are brought up in the new series that doesn't have to involve being reincarnated but as part of flashbacks. As has been mentioned Rudius's later end of life is mostly left blank so it'd be easy enough to cover some of that from the perspective of his children. As to whether there is an an afterlife or not, we do at least know Rudius's soul existed after his death to meet with Man God. So it wouldn't surprise me there being an afterlife that all who have passed are there but there really isn't a need to show it, which means it can be left to the reader to decide for themselves.

Before watching I want to state my thoughts. I personally do not remember an "afterlife"... but I must set the qualifier that an afterlife insinuates living in a non physical form in a world not your own but one that is NOT PHYSICAL. The Underworld of many myths and such like Hades or Heaven or Valhalla may have all been after lives by others definition but not necessarily as I see it. Valhalla for instance was a physical world that others could traverse to and not one of mind or spirit. As was Hades or Olympia. Heaven and Hell I am undecided about. MT has a clearly vague representation as I remember it as arguably Hitogami is there, and 7star was there... as well as a couple other mentions... but that vague space of nearly no definition is more like the 7th unofficial side of the side side world then a proper afterlife. So I look forward to seeing if the answer is yes or no and how its actually defined.
@nickdetsch34165 ай бұрын
I dunno... on one hand, Rudy's dead soul DID exist after he died and before he was reborn so surely theres some kind of afterlife in some shape or form right? but on the other hand, it seemed like he just died in one life and the next thing he knew he instantly was reborn into the next life, so if there is an afterlife, he wasn't conscious of it. so it's kinda tough to say for certain. its like his dead soul existed but also didn't... but it did until it found the body of rudeus grayrat... so maybe not a "conscious" afterlife?
@NatalieXHunter5 ай бұрын
I see a spirit wandering a world it shouldn't have been in until it nearly expired, until by chance it found someone it could inhabit, as a bit different to there being an afterlife. But then, it depends what you think of as an afterlife. I was meaning more something like heaven, or afterlives described by other cultures, where you're still aware, still yourself, and reunited with people. Being a ghost would be a different thing, as would being reincarnated without memories. I meant more that Rifujin doesn't seem to intend that there's this realm where everyone goes at the end and is reunited, iykwim.

@kodytiffany56865 ай бұрын
Paused at 12:53. I see things differently in this case. "heaven" as an afterlife is a lie unless you can see those you care about while there. In short the idea is that the soul can be omnipresent between its needed locations. Those doomed to hell have a part there and a part seen by those that loved them in the more positive afterlifes as well. To me at least that is the least complicated way things could be. Since it allows for the most options. I will say that if there is an afterlife than that is why Hitogami is isolated at the in between. He attempted to cheat death and wound up lodged in that place we see. Its a "not" location that lacks definition and is effected by the thoughts and feelings of others. Its also a bit poetic that he would be the sole deity so unsatisfied with his life as to be doomed to an afterlife of that nature. In other words Hitogami= the Crimson King from the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Diving into that lore I got the impression the Crimson King was an Arch Devil that got trapped by his own power when he killed a God and had to destroy everything to escape. Could of misunderstood the intentions of SK but that is my thoughts.

Who is to say?, I don't trust Hitogami's words cause it seems not even he truly understands the meaning if there is an afterlife or not, That is why he is so afraid of his own death cause it is still an unknown even to someone as powerful as him. It is pretty much like how us in real life most of us do not know if their is an afterlife, their could be or maybe their is nothing, i think the author just wanted to highlight a more important element how you truly need to live your life to the fullest and not just sit by and rely you will get everything in the next life if their is one. Maybe we might got some more concrete answer in the future book series. Afterall this is not the end of it and only rudy's part has ended and their is still a lot of lore waiting to be shown.

I honestly didn't mind the fact that there's no afterlife in MT. Everyone wants to die satisfied with their life and Rudeus got that in the end. Though I wouldn't mind if, in the next series, we see him in one particular spot, that being the one dream that Hitogami showed him in the last novel since Lara waved at him, it'd be some nice closure for her since she left and couldn't come back, but that's more of wanting to see Lara's reaction to it then wanting him back. Either way the series ending with that never left me depressed. Honestly, once it's animated I can't wait for the slew of "Glad he's dead" by the types that never watched it. We know how they work at this point.

I'm saying that in this story, there almost certainly isn't one - it doesn't mean anything about my or the author's opinions on whether there is one on Earth, but in the world he created, you just seem to return to nothingness in the end. @@NatalieXHunter I agree with you. My comment is basically for the fanbase. Its really very strange how they think about Afterlife on MT but not on other stories. It would be crazy if we'd have to ask this question for all series we watched. As for the nothingness,,I mean this is where it ends I see so it may imply they simply vanish. I honestly find it hard to believe that the local folks in the multi Face universe did not concern themselves with questions about afterlife its simply not natural for a sentient being UNLESS there is already a common knowledge of what exactly happens after they die.. However I understand that from off-canon perspective the author just avoided this topic for sake of consistency..which is honestly very impressive But my headcanon here is at least the author tells us that Souls exist in this story. if there is afterlife or not that these souls go to , he chose to leave that up to our interpretation

The fact that none of the deities in Mushoku Tensei have anything to do with the existence of Earth and of other worlds, and yet spirits can pass between them suggests that the Multiverse exists and in the multitude of existences (dimensions) it would be impossible to completely deny the existence of an afterlife. I'd argue one thing, but it's not afterlife: ...The 6 sided world is where souls gather to ... live and expire. As Hitogami himself says: “Ordinarily, the soul reduces itself into mana, then gets mixed with someone else’s mana or recomposes itself into something else. However, you are a person from another world so I wouldn’t know what may happen to you.” Finally, considering what the Time Miko did, it shows that mana may be a collective consciousness, one that is beyond their scope. The teleportation incident proves just how vicious this consciousness is, but it also proves something else: that it has intellect. There were no other Fitoans that were sent to the demon continent beside Rudy and Eris, and they were sent there because they were together. Each of the others were sent into rough circumstances, but none of them would be unable to handle these circumstances if they reach their potential. Rudy would have had it the hardest battling the creatures on the Demon Continent without help, but he would have been able to do it. So would the parents of Eris, in that forest, with even Gislayne as cavelry on warpath to their rescue. It is brutal that they were put into deadly situations, horrible that they died, but none were out of their scope, hence what "Mana" was able to adequately ascertain their potential, and scatter them into adequate environments. It THOUGHT they could handle it.

The characters wouldn't necessarily know, but if Rifujin says that happened, then it happened, because he made the whole thing up. We do know people were teleported into the sky, because we saw it happen to Sylphy. She could save herself because of her magic, but most people wouldn't be able to do that, and so if we take it that people were teleported randomly in that way, and we know too that a lot of people were never accounted for, it's pretty obvious that his intention was true random teleportation, not just, zapped to another point on the map at ground level.

@kmdreacts To me it doesn’t make sense for the creator to create such disparity between the lifespan of races like dragon tribe, elves and certain demons without a certain afterlife.

Sorry, but this is just a very narrow definition of afterlife.
@NatalieXHunter5 ай бұрын
Well, we're talking 'what kind of afterlife does or could exist in this setting', and by afterlife I mean an experience after death where one is reunited with loved ones and lives out an eternity. Whether it's like the Christian heaven, like the afterlife the ancient Egyptians believed in, Valhalla, whatever - some kind of realm where people's consciousness carries on and they experience things with other souls they were close to. That is different to reincarnation, which is another life, or simply becoming part of the universe again - either of which could be true in this story, but which would still mean there is no realm where Rudy, Eris and Paul are all hanging out together waiting for their other friends to show up someday. The 'returning to nothingness' type idea is one used as a happy ending in a lot of fiction - for instance in Western literature in His Dark Materials, in TV in The Good Place, and in manga in the desires of the lunarians in Houseki no Kuni. It's not always a sad thing.

I think an afterlife of some sort is likely because in Orsted’s loops the same people are born. Especially if he pairs certain couples, but if I remember correctly one of rudeus’ kids is usually born to another family. I can’t remember which but I’m pretty sure it was in one of your videos. This, along with reincarnation for some characters, implies that the souls in mushoku tensei are finite. Or at the very least pre existing their physical lives. Which implies that they’ll return to wherever they come from to recycle.
@Atoan18615 ай бұрын
As an aside, there should be two Rudeus souls floating around because of Oldeus’ time shenanigans.
@NatalieXHunter4 ай бұрын
Nah, the same people being born in Orsted loops is due to some people having 'strong fate'. I don't think any of Rudy's kids are born to another family in other loops, I may be misremembering it and maybe that is a thing, but I have definitely never said it in a video.

Ko-Fi takes less fees and is more flexible as people can just do a one off thing rather than a subscription, so that's why I usually promote that more. But I do only show Patreon people on my videos as Ko-Fi I think shows me people's real names and I don't want to put those on screen. But whatever you like best, really, thank you so much

@NatalieXHunter5 ай бұрын
Sure, could work if you were writing a story and decided those were the rules, but it still presents problems. Just because you knew someone doesn't necessarily mean you want to spend eternity with them forever. And never meeting anybody new, forever? Doesn't sound that idyllic. It can work however you want it to work as headcanon, but my point was that Rifujin seemed to decide that people returning to mana was the best answer for this story. It raises no questions, it gives a finality to the stories that are finished, and it isn't even a sad thing to think about (it is used as a happy ending for dead people in other stories, like His Dark Materials).

i believe what hitogami said at the end, cuz thats the last time he'd be meeting rudeus, and if there was an afterlife then rudeus would find out, hito would get nothing from lying, but if there isnt one then there isnt one. and unlike most stories that would touch on this subject, mushoku tensei gives a very, for the lack of a better term, palpable, or relatable, description of the death of the soul. if a story simply says "he died" then thats that, you can think whatever but the idea of a soul always keeps the idea of an afterlife in the back of your mind. But MT incorporated it into its world. when someone dies, their soul devolves into mana. the essence of their being becomes the very thing rudeus had been using for the whole series. we, along with him, have learnt and gotten a feel for what mana is and means in the six faced world, and as such it wouldn't be too farfetched to say that when rudeus' soul evaporated, he turned into mana, to be spread around the world, and just like that, the reader understands intuitively that yes, rudeus is gone. its not about having a needlessly sad ending to a great series, its about what rudeus did for the world. to him, he lived his life to the fullest and doesnt need anymore shots, and to the other people, sylpyh, roxy, his kids etc... hes completely gone but his achievements will be remembered as we see in the following chapter(s). he left a legacy, and thats what happens when someone dies, they simply stop being, but their actions still have consequences for centuries to come. its incredibly bittersweet to realize, after over 12 volumes of hoping for, that paul was watching over rudy, only to find out that no, he wasnt, and rudy wont be meeting him. to some this would be incredibly sad, and i can understand believing that theres some astral plane that rudeus went to, and its fine to believe that, hell, rifujin hasnt confirmed jack about another plane for an afterlife, but i personally really enjoyed the ending with what i just said, about this being his actual death, cuz to the reader rudeus isnt them, rudeus is like a friend, whose life we have seen from beginning to end, and theres no more to the life of the man that once was Rudeus Greyrat.
@boomer87605 ай бұрын
Well said, but i just feel the nihilism sense is very strong. I dont really like it and I hope there is afterlife in Mushoku Tensei. You know... it is feel like when watching horror movie when the mc already survive the whole tragedy just to be killed by another entity. Or when I read fire punch, its empty. I have an uncanny feeling and void in my brain. And this feelings always haunt me when I had a nightmare.

LOL I didn't mean to be a buzzkill, there is still room for really any headcanon to work, but this is what I think Rifujin intended.
@SilverYPheonix5 ай бұрын
MT is mainly a character driven story, makes sense Rifujin did not consider expanding the universe's vision to have any kind of concept of afterlife. That being said, manhwa's have spoiled me rotten to the idea of multilayered worlds so it makes me a tad sad seeing the colorful world of MT and gradually seeing it get smaller and lose color and ink through Rudy's eyes.
@NatalieXHunter5 ай бұрын
Ahhhhh, no, this is such a misconception about fiction, and one I've been thinking of making a video about for a long time. Mushoku Tensei is not a character driven story. Hardly any genre fiction is. It's a plot based story with good characters. People often think because a story has good characters with agency that it is character driven, but it's not. I promise I will explain this in a video sometime soon, it's too deep a topic to get into in a comment, but still.
@SilverYPheonix5 ай бұрын
@@NatalieXHunter Oh, I see. Given the story essentially centers around Rudy's pov for most things I'd assume the story was character driven. I'm looking forward to that video.

Which parents, Zenith and Paul or his Japanese parents, who he had regrets about? Obviously Zenith and Paul are the ones we know and care about, but it'd be way more interesting, if there was an afterlife, if people from all worlds went there and he could reunite with his Japanese family, too...
