Great video! Yes experiment but besides creative preferences there is sometimes a reason to use the "common" way, for example fuzz not playing well with a wah because of buffers.

Take any “pedal order” you find as a loose guide, then experiment. Stereo chorus after stereo reverb? Try it. Phaser in front of overdrive? Well think of the overdrive as an amp, and see what sounds better before or after. Really the only order that won’t work are pedals expecting to hear your guitar directly like envelopes filters, certain fuzz pedals and octave pedals. Always stick those in front of a compressor. Also EQ after dirt can sweeten up both your clean and drive tone, though some say before and a few say get 2 EQ pedals!

Wah --> Flanger --> Delay --> Overdrive (Drive almost off, Level almost full) --> Amp set to crunch

I never follow the "Traditional" or normal order of things. I love to experiment ! To Discover new tones and new sounds ! Thank you for the cool video Kris ! .... next time , try playing my Harley Benton SC-450plus LD for the demos ! Such a good sounding guitar.

Placing a modulation effect after a reverb sounds more intense. A lot of early rockers put their pedals before the preamp distortion, so it is definitely a retro sound.

Currently I have from guitar > drop > input gate (4 cable) > send (output and return wired to amp FX loop) > comp > FX proc (bypass/tuner usually) > amp and it seems to work properly. I've tried every different combination I could think of with pedal order and gate cables order and some were weird this seems to be the 'correct' way. Things work so not sure if it can be better. Thinking of adding pre-amp and really not sure where would I put it, at the start or before others in chain.

The only thing that definitely goes last apart from a looper pedal is delay and reverb and even then they can sound great in other places as Kris shows but I prefer them last and definitely into the effects loop

HI Kris! Nice video! Question: where do I place my compressor pedal? Before or after fuzz/distortion?
@ThomannsGuitarsBasses23 күн бұрын
Thanks! You can put it before everything if your fuzz doesn't freak out because of the compressor's buffer. Or between fuzz and overdrives. That's what I do usually. If you have an LA-2A, Fairchild or 1176 style compressor, you can also put it in the end. Last pedal before the amp or even in the amp's FX loop. Those are more subtle and sweeten the whole guitar tone, even when the overdrive is on. I hope that makes sense. Cheers //Kris

Thanks Kris! I have it in front of fuzz and distortion and works just fine!

I think the chaotic sound would be overbearing and fatiguing to listen to for a whole song but added in as a sporadic effect, it can sound 😎

There is only one rule - if it sounds good, it is good. BUT context matters. What sounds good by yourself may not sound so good in a full band setting. In the former case, the "wall of sound" seems to be awesome. In the later case, the "wall of sound" is crap.
