14:16 wow, this part really just hit home for me. I lost my cat after 20 years together and yes… when I saw his body in my arms… it was crazy how still he was. And it was crazy how he was physically there but wasn’t anymore. And so I understand, that it’s his consciousness that I connected to and loved. Which makes him literally invisible. So deep.

I know. My 2 cats had to go to sleep within 4 days of each other, but they were 17 so not unexpected, still, I felt it when burying them both - and how at the same time there is a knowing that the body is not what we really related to. I am thankful now for having had them for so long and what a difference they made to my life which I wouldn't have otherwise experienced.

That's not really true. I had the dog of a lifetime. He was so strong and muscular, but extremely gentle ( A gorgeous Boxer). Yes, those are all expressions of his spirit (animals have spirits, that's better than "consciousness") but our spirits are expressed through our bodies.

@@Quintessentguy I agree--although I think both are true. Yes, I loved the spirit of my animal--I could see her soul in her eyes. But I also Miss the good smell and feel of her silky fur, her antics, physically playing with her, feeling her warm body cuddled up next to mine---or just looking at how gorgeous she was. I use "her" as an example--but it's true of all the her/him animals that have blessed my life over the years. They are all beloved, treasured--each and every one.

Hi Eckhart. I was introduced to my soul when I was 12 after a horrific event when I realized my thoughts were not me, because I became the observer of my thoughts. So that was always with me, that realization. Life changing. And again I was strongly reminded when I was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer and again my soul came to my physical being to bring me peace. I was looking in the mirror at myself with no hair, no eyelashes, no eyebrows, and my skin color was bad, and I had lost a lot of weight, and there was my voice saying, boy you don't look so good, you might not make it, but if you don't, it will be OK. But it was my higher concious being observing my physical being in the mirror like one would look at something of interest to be studied. It was very powerful. Why is it that traumatic events trigger this revelation for some people.. I assume it's not just me.

I've had this experience as well, going through cancer treatment. It was as though I was watching a movie of my life from the outside. I felt curiosity, but not fear. I could see fear bubbling up sometimes, but it felt like a trick of my mind and I didn't believe in it. The fear of death had no real power. I actually felt more at peace than I ever have. All of the worries I'd had about my life just dissolved, they had no hold over me anymore. I could see they weren't real. I also felt the deepest gratitude I've ever felt for the beauty of each moment of being alive on this earth. It was a very profound and sacred thing to experience, while also being the most physically challenging time of my life. It's been interesting to see what happens as I recover and feel healthy again. My mind is trying to pull me back into old patterns of unconsciousness, grasping again to the form of the world and the worries of being in it. I hope I can let go of those outdated, deeply grooved mental tendencies and strengthen the new pathways that don't believe in these illusory fears, and live however long I have left in the current of peace.

When it comes to the loss of a loved one, I experience it differently. Pure consciousness is allways there, it's the same in everything, it is not born, it does not die, it can't get lost. You could be in for a surprise. If she died before you she served your addictions and she lost her immune system because of it, or she attracted an accident? So if the Soul family and the bloodline family of a human walking on earth come to an agreement to help that soul in hellish condition, they pull the plug on us. They can even make us Suicidal. So getting to know us who we really are only happens after we can recognise our higher self that is asking for everything we are attracting in life.

Thank you for this as I saw the closest person in my life pass tragically right in front of me 6 months ago. A big tree hit her and she died instantly. I stayed with her until I met someone on the trail. I realized "later" that what I was looking at alone on that trail that day was her body and that the spirit, energy and very essence of her had passed out of her body. Kathy lived with Adrian in West Vancouver and they were good friends. They lived in house on the water above the marina and she said she had met you when you lived in Adrian's rental. Small world. I know Kathy is in a much better place than us and this gives me peace. I will never understand what I saw on that trail that day but I will walk forward with her in memory and connection. During my 20s and 30s I was a bundle of emotions, unwilling to accept death of the personal self. Through meditation I was contacted by a formless entity. It was a male and there seemed to be many other entities with him (I oould hear voices in the background). He spoke (this entity) and said expliciitly, "you can not enter the other worlds." I then thought to myself, why? And he answered, "you are not ready to enter the other worlds because you have too many emotional problems." For many years I did not quite grasp his message until reading A New Earth. It all makes sense now. All the voices, dreams, visions and out-of-body experiences was the formless I helping the human me break the cycle of rebirth. I read a lot trying to understand those formless messages. Thank you Tolle! I understand my purpose in this life is to help my loved ones and others break the cycle of pain and sufferring so they may also enter the formless dimension when they leave life on Earth. I agree. And Eckhart's difficult early years prepared the platform for his present consciousness/wisdom. Often one needs to lose one's way in order to find or identify it. I believe that most of the global population still lacks the capacity (and therefore the desire) to draw from Tolle's deep well of spiritual wisdom--it simply doesn't resonate with most people.

@@SavoirFlair I feel that we ALL know what Tolle is talking about; it's nothing new...however in most peeps this info is buried so deeply, they can't access it let alone articulate insights such as those he shares. Just try engaging the average person in ET discussions & you see their eyes glaze over, their minds tune out, an inner door shuts....but the one on the precipice of understanding lights up, eager for more, hungry for confirmation (in words) of what already resonates with them intuitively. Everyone's consciousness ripens at a different pace; each of us is at a particular point in our relationship to our (inner) Self. You'd be surprised at how many peeps respond with FEAR when you so much as hint at cultivating a capacity to live your life on your own terms, thinking for yourself, rejecting social scripts for living, aligning with your own Truth. I was 24 years old the first time I encountered a person (a 45-yr old woman enrolled as a mature student) in my university class---who was sooo upset when the prof gave us 'carte blanche' to choose our own essay topics--she wanted to be told exactly what to write about & how. The freedom to choose frightened & angered her! I was shocked as I am accustomed to claiming all manner of liberties in my life....without breaking laws, haha.

I really do appreciate his approach to attempting to explain the inexplicable. He seems very genuine, and this is the first time I've listened to him speak and explain what he BELIEVES to be the essence of the spirit. My only point of contention is where he says we must disconnect from the ego in order to find who we are. The rub for me is that in our incarnate form, we are obligated to deal, on a daily basis, with all things that require us to wrestle with out egos, i.e., jobs, taking care of family needs, mortgages, etc. There is an incumbent amount of ego that goes hand in hand with our spirits being inserted into a this flesh and blood vessel we live in temporarily. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding about his disconnection from ego, but disconnecting to the point that one then neglects the obligations one has to one's family and such, doesn't seem like a viable move, or at the very least, a move that would lead to even more suffering,...suffering that would extend to the very people one has dedicated ones self to. I think that any suppositions about death/life after death are experiences that we learn about from people who had NDE's and returned to tell their story. In essence, you have a person who DID NOT DIE telling stories about the afterlife. Many of the stories have a multitude of common elements; love, light, understanding, etc, but they are still stories being relayed to us by people who DID NOT DIE. Perhaps they are only relaying visions that are common to the human brain during NEAR death experiences. I've yet to hear an account given by someone who actually completed the process of death in totality. Nor has anyone else. Dunno,....please help me understand. Reply

What you are already is at home and never left home. It is a shift of perspective you are already very familiar with: awakening from a dream. While dreaming you identify with a body/mind but once awake you realize that perspective was wrong. You were not a body/mind but the whole dream, all of it as in any dream. Now try to apply that very same change of perspective in the dream called life. Watch and investigate the resistance of your dream-self to my suggestion because, hey! Life is real! Is it? Or is it just a belief as in any dream? Investigate and discover. The truth will set you free.

Spiritual people talk of a light and people come for us at the end, while scientific people say this sensation is the result of a chemical in our brain being released to make dying easier. Let's just for a moment say science is right, then whatever the reason we exist in the first place must have put the chemical there so that right at the end of this wonderful experience we don't suffer, Again if science is right then this would surely mean the reason for there being everything rather than nothing at all, must be both conscious and compassionate beyond our current capabilities of understanding and must love and care about us ALL that they want our passing to be as peaceful as possible for us. Regardless if we accept a spiritual or scientific explanation I personally am very happy, full of trust and so extremely grateful for absolutely everything 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Science is almost never right. As many doctors will tell you--much of what they learned in medical school has to be thrown out 5-10 years later, as new information comes along. Same with physicists. Look what's happened to all the previous theories. Science is always evolving--it's not black and white, they are still trying to figure things out. Since they get so much wrong about the material world--they have no business speaking on the subjects like metaphysics, or the supernatural. To think they can offer us anything of value on those subjects would be the height of arrogance.

The expression that the cat [always] had in life is suddenly gone. The body remains (for a time) but the spirit or consciousness has gone. I've experienced this with people also. This happened to me. My Dad died in 2004. My 2 children married in 2010 and gave us 3 grandchildren. My daughter give me a necklace with the first letter of each grandchild’s name. Brian, Edward, Nora. I put the necklace on the table and saw that these first letters spelled my Dad’s name : BEN. This was not planned and we were all shocked. But we all remembered that after he died the kitchen doors opened and closed, the light by his bed went and off. My Mom, who believed everyone “ went to sleep til the resurrection” saw him twice.

That's incredible, thanks for sharing! My dad died in 2004 as well. There were thunderstorms all day and it was dark outside. After he was declared dead, his lips gradually turned upwards into a smile. The clouds were suddenly gone and it was full sunshine. The nurses and hospital staff all noticed it. For weeks afterwards, we would hear footsteps in the kitchen when no one was in there and the sound of dishes touching. He loved to cook. For his funeral, I gave a family friend a $20 bill to pick something up last minute. A week later when I was walking up the driveway, a $20 bill tumbles on the wind and lands in front of my shoe. A picture fell off the living room table on it's own and the back of the frame popped off. On the back of the picture was an "I Love You" note that my dad wrote to my mom. Just so many things for it to be just coincidences!

I don't think we die, because we aren't really separate from everything. I think there is a infinite consciousness that everything belongs to and we are an expression of it looking back at itself. Even when we die the consciousness that spawned us is still there. At that is who we are. Fragments of a whole.

The more I hear this guy the more I love his consciousness - yes, he is pleasant to behold as a living form, and his voice and accent are also attractive but it is his essence that is so alluring. I say this because I always feel glad at having encountered his presence. And my gladness at encountering his presence makes me feel glad at encountering my own presence. It makes me happy and there is no other need in my life than to be happy being me. And when all living beings attain this state of absolute happiness there will never be a cause for conflict ever again. The time will certainly come, but in the meantime we have to work our way through all this the best way we can. Even so, there is not one of us that cannot do this. Be assured of that, no matter how much you may be suffering right now, for nothing is constant - all is changing.

Expansion has my curiosity peaked. There's so much more than meets the eye or even 'I' as it were. Death holds little angst for me, since it seems an ongoing process. Understanding the vastness of life, my senses are engaged, therefore, at least in this present moment, I'm in wonder and awe of the now and the unknown. In this state of awareness and appreciation I'd like to continue. Perhaps I'm what some may call a young soul or maybe I'm just awakening to the joys form experience has in store. Remembering my plea as a child that there has to be more to life than this, perhaps I'm finally beginning to know myself outside of the conditioning and programming of how my life has been and now I'm feeling/sensing there's more.

Brilliant monologue. I've been looking for something like this and am glad to have 'mysteriously stumbled' upon this vid. Very happy to know that we can extrapolate from our experience here. When I was 19 (>45 yrs ago) I had my astounding blow out experience of not being this body. That singular experience (non-drug induced, btw) completely altered the course of my life. As the decades have gone by I've shed more and more of the 'stuck past' and recognized more and more of how we're just monads having avatar/learning experiences here in this realm. I've been wondering tho how this process gets integrated once we shed this avatar. If what Eckhart says is true then I have a chance after all to begin the process of extricating myself form endless rebirths.

SO true 🙏 I totally agree! I can add my personal experience about it. My sister before and my mother after died and I assisted them during their illness and death. A few days before dying, up to a few minutes before expiring they told me many things. I was engaged in material things to do and my attention was directed above all to this. I was very struck by these sentences these statements but the situation was such that I didn't have the time to reflect on them. These sentences seemed far-fetched to me anyway. I didn't understand their certainty in saying these things. Well, they all came TRUE. I'm so sorry I didn't pay due attention to these statements of theirs but now I know, I am convinced that they NOW know why. THEY know everything. When I look for something in their house I ask them where it is and after a few seconds I find it. Whenever something bad has to happen to me the night before I dream of them staring at me. Something happens on time that gives me problems. DON'T take me for crazy it happens like this! It happened like this. Don't ask me how and why it happens. I do not know. After all, as the spiritual teacher E. Tolle said, everything is a mystery. A WONDERFUL mystery...🙏❤️

Thank you Eckhart for contemplating and articulating these mysteries so well. I believe this applies to all living things. But I’m not sure if one can say for certain that our consciousness will ever stop seeking form, especially if the universe is the embodiment of all consciousness and the creation of form in it possibly endless. But in my mind it does not matter if there is another realm where form is no longer desired. There can be peace in this conscious realm simply believing either potential outcome lay ahead. In my mind living form is the only form that gives the universe self awareness through the infinite number of life’s experiences that connect physical form to eternal consciousness. A rock and quark exist simply for the creation of life and to experience for the self awareness of the universe.

According to Upanishads/Sanatana Dharma, it's the fourth purushartha which is what, every being is aspiring . That is Moksha/liberation. The other three are dharma, artha, kama all of which make rebirth possible for the sake of moksha. So yes moksha is the thing to aspire for or rather our original nature is already moksha, the conciouness was /is /will never bound. It's always liberated. Identification with body and mind due to ignorance is the problem.

ISOLATED/ SEPARATE CONSCIOUSNESS ( or the illusion of such) is what creates the sense of individual self or ego.The impression that you exist somewhere in your body or in your head as opposed to existing in someone else's body or head is what gives us that sense of individuality. We are further defined by our MEMORIES which are unique to us. Unless BOTH of those attributes continue to exist after death then we cant really say we - as an individual ego or personality -survive.

But why is possible, that the people can lose their memory, especially when they injure their head? They can forget completely their identity. What gives us or refuses to give us the access to this memory field also including the past lifes? I know, You will not probably answer me here in the comments, but there are many people writting the comments, so maybe someone can explain me? With greatest regards Tomas

The brain is the hardware--the mind is the software. All the memories are in the mind/consciousness, (software) and are never lost. However, when the physical BRAIN is damaged--the memories cannot be recalled through the damaged hardware. Once free of the damaged brain (as in death) all the memories are there for accessing.

Hoping that Eckhart answers this. I have always believed that since our hearts and brains have electricity present, and energy cannot be destroyed, that energy or matter etc has to transcend to some place. It seems like a miracle for that energy to find itself at a hospital as a child is born. Or if the soul enters at the point of actual conception, I've wondered these things for quite some time
