Is This Barebones Railroad Lantern Perfect for Camping?

I am really digging these lights, the only reason I will not turn loose of my Coleman lanterns is that comforting hiss. So many camping memories with my grandfather and his Coleman.

Which way does the light cast? The forest lantern casts upward so it is blinding while also not illuminating the table or ground or whatever you are doing
