The drum magazines massively increase horizontal recoil. That's probably why it seemed so bad.

That does make a massive difference! But even without it, it has as much horizontal recoil as the G3

I've been using the SG 552 instead of qbz if I wanted something cheap, qbz has a weird horizontal bounce with slow rpm. My SG552 kit is: Acog BUS = 4 supply Flash hider = 1 supply QuickDraw grip = 1 supply Extended magazine from 20rnd to 30rnd = 1 supply

The Q is like the G36 counterpart. has both weird horizontal recoil. but good substitution: g36 for m4a1 qbz for ak74

I’ve always seen the QBZ as really useless in this game for the same reason you gave: it’s got too high of recoil, which makes it objectively worse than the other options.

It’s just better as a CQC weapon than as a long-range rifle. I just don’t use it much so I would need to use it more to get used to it.
