I wish Arin would understand that I and many other people watching them play Humongous games are not interested at all in the grumps making progress. It's a silly fun game for kids that I played when I was a kid. Taking your time and enjoying the game for how fun and silly it is instead of treating it like it's wasting your time is the key to not only enjoying it, but letting whoever has nostalgia for the games truly experience that nostalgia. 😸👍 Think of it this way. You don't take a long bubble bath to get as clean as possible as fast as possible, right? These games aren't "quick and efficient shower" games. They're "take your time, relax, and enjoy yourself in the bubble bath" games. I feel like Dan gets it, but Arin really misses the point. Unfortunate. 😢

I enjoy that the game uses a child's notion of extrapolating from a premise. If the stand-ins for humans in this gameworld are anthropomorphized cars and the game goes through time, what would the denizens of those time periods be? Older forms of vehicle, like a carriage, cart, stagecoach, or just a wheel, of course. Which only follows if, in such a case, you assume that anything called a "vehicle" has some kind of commonality besides the real world utility, otherwise the human analog falls apart and the general fun of the whole time traveling premise loses it's point, which is comparing the affects of "progress" on the same type of being. And like all ponderances on childlike logic it forks into either an airy state of zen, or an existential horror story. Zen because you might say well if vehicle or transportation is a stand-in for "person" in this world, then almost anything with literal drive (motor or otherwise) can be a person, which is kind of beautiful. Existential horror because if you assume that prehistoric Wheel is to Putt-Putt as a cave-man is to you or I then Putt-Putt is basically a cyborg or even android, what with his combustion engine, prosthetic wheels, and such.

I used to play this game over and over and over. It's so good to see it again! For some reason, my favorite part was the wagon wheel candies in the western world. Something about them had me captivated! Also, seeing this with a fully developed brain, I am now realizing that the circular stone thing in the singing time choir was a sundial. My child brain, despite knowing good and well what a sundial was, thought it was an air hockey paddle. Because why WOULDN'T an air hockey paddle be singing with an analogue clock, digital clock, and an hourglass?
