Lol. You know it. Thanks, brother. Eliza will tell you, there were probably four times around 4:30 pm that I walked into the kitchen or living room, stopped and was like "the lighting's amazing". Then ran up stairs and grabbed my hazer and camera 😂😂

Thanks, Harri! I'd definitely like to do a video like that at some point. Hopefully when my process is a little more refined 😂. Re the follow focus. I like it a lot for handheld. Mostly because of the palm rest. That's a nice little feature.

Thanks, so much! Honestly, I've kind of been loving the Zhiyun Molus X100 most lately. Mostly because it's just so small and versatile.And BRIGHT. Otherwise, I usually use my Sirui 60w COB lights. If you are want cheaper 60watts, I'd look into Amaran. Even cheaper, Neewer has surprisingly good products. I mostly just use COB lights these days. I do love flex lights, but they are really expensive. Not a big tube light guy tbh.

If you want a big bright light, GVM is the most affordable by far. That's what I use for a 600D, and it's under 900 which is unheard of.

Is follow focus becoming absolute with all the new technologies built into the cameras these days where cameras can detect and follow humans verses animals verses other objects keeping them all in focus?
@ScottJeschke
@ScottJeschke 11 ай бұрын
For cinema lenses they are a must. For run and gun with photo glass not so much. I use auto focus photo lenses for all my KZbin stuff, because it's just way easier working with myself. On a narrative project, I would absolutely use manual cinema lenses with follow and focus though. I think lidar will be the way of the future for narrative stuff and cinema lenses doing autofocus, but even the PD movie is kind of a pain to set up. And you have to calibrate to each lens. Which is not terribly efficient on film projects. So even that has a ways to go
@Bo_Hazem

Seems like a plausible follow focus system, especially the friction wheel for photo-centric lenses.

@@ScottJeschke The added hand palm padding is also essential for shoulder rig to either zoom or focus without adding shakes due to losing one grip and trying to compensate with only with the other hand. Such small details can make or break a deal, and overall this is a very well-thought product. It's just sad that only Chinese companies seem to be proactive and innovative compared to other competing companies while being relatively cheaper.

How do you actually dial in the focus when recording yourself in front of the camera? Still a whel + monitor + peaking?
@ScottJeschke
@ScottJeschke 7 ай бұрын
For the shots of myself just around, I used autofocus. F60 is just in the demo portion. But yeah, sometimes I use a wireless transmitter to a 7-in monitor. Sometimes I just trust that it's catching me from a distance. And lately I've been using an app called monitor plus.

How do you expose these moody shots with your Sony, you still keeps the blacks clean without noise. Do you still expose 2stop over?
@ScottJeschke
@ScottJeschke 11 ай бұрын
I keep between 0:0 and 1.6 readings, but I have my lut compensate. So I probably am exposing to stops over but it's not reading that way on my camera. My process would probably mortify most DPs. But I never use false color. Or waveform. Honestly, I don't even properly white balance. I do most stuff by eye. But that's partially because a global exposure of two stops over, would be way over for me with these moody scenes. Because my ratios call for neutral on skin, and dark on most of the rest of the frame, and then ideally not clipping highlights. The main thing is making sure I'm seeing enough shadow detail, but also neither under or overexposing skin tones. Once you modify a lut to existing footage that you've properly exposed, you can pretty much do everything by eye. Sometimes I overexpose a little bit, but there's latitude. I rarely underexposed anymore though.

@ScottJeschke
@ScottJeschke 11 ай бұрын
@@Plusmonkey gotcha. That might be the problem. If you don't have enough light you might be underexposing shadows. Really hard for me to say without knowing your ratios. The other possibility is a bad lut. My log shadows are really noisy, but after a lut they're clean. Phantom LUTs are great for this.

Man, everything about this video is dope…BUT …I’m an audio guy (25 years) and that post audio dialog is bad. The sync isnt great either and the character of the audio vox track drops the quality in video.
@ScottJeschke
@ScottJeschke 6 ай бұрын
That's fair, but it's not a literal sync. It's more meant to be sort of esoteric. A vo that the visuals are roughly matching to. Not literal dialogue in the video. Re the character of the audio vox I have no idea what you mean. in Terms of sound Fidelity and EQ it sounds pretty decent
@trueblastmixingmastering7269
@trueblastmixingmastering7269 6 ай бұрын
Please don't get me wrong.This video was done very very well and I liked it a lot. But what I meant was exactly that. The fact that the voice over doesn't sink correctly to your lips is what gives that impression that the video is somewhat slightly fake. In the way you were shot. And two: That Uber ultra super clean voice over.Audio just doesn't match with certain scenes that you have. For example when you're outside uber clean audio just doesn't work, Or when you're on that white wall which I think is your house, The closeness or perspective of the audio doesn't match.How far away you are from the viewer. This is just me, though.Since I'm always looking at audio and movies And whatnot seeing how well the post production team and audio did. I used to work at a studio in glendale california and did some for work game of thrones and tons of other small local VO projects which we had to get THAT FEEL right. Ambience, environments, proximity and such.
@ScottJeschke
@ScottJeschke 6 ай бұрын
@@trueblastmixingmastering7269 makes sense. Appreciate the feedback. I think the misunderstanding though is mistaking the voiceover for diegetic dialogue. It's supposed to be the other way around. It's a voice over with visuals that just happen to match. So it's not actually meant to be environmental dialogue w space mixing. It's literally meant to be a studio voice over... Not ADR. If that makes sense.
