To the comment of Exeter having a small cathedral…Because there is no centre tower, Exeter Cathedral has the longest uninterrupted medieval vaulted ceiling in the world, at about 96 m

Hi guys! Yay the Algorithm finally put a channel I definitely find interesting on my home page! I am surprised you don’t have hundreds of thousands of subscribers as you are engaging, informative and humorous. I adore history - and stories!! Anyway, I live in Scotland, not sure if you’ve seen our many many quietly historic and scenic areas, but I will now enjoy a few hours going through your library. Thanks for taking the trouble to show off the lesser known beauties of the UK. I am half English, with the other half of my family in Plymouth, not too far from Exeter. I am a bell toting subscriber! 👍🏻😂☕️

Aw, yes ..... Exeter. That's where I was in 1991 where I went on a guided tour down into the tunnels that the Romans built to transport water. The tunnels were very narrow, the walls were about four inches from each shoulder (and I'm skinny) and it was dark with no light at all. All the people in back of me were pushing me into the people in front of me. At some point, the guide woman said, "Is everyone OK?, because now we are going back and into some tunnels in the other direction that are even narrower, and we will be going quite a distance, so we will be there for quite a while." So we back tracked and I saw the stairs I had come down, and I said to myself, "NO, we aren't!" as I hurried up the stairs into the lobby where I had paid to go down there. The man in the lobby said, "Yeah, we get about one a week" (people like me who can't tolerate being in tight, closed-in spaces). Did I mention that I am seriously claustrophobic? I sure was glad to get out of there.

Ooo we did think about doing the tunnels but it doesn’t seem it would be easy to film, especially given your experience!

Two guys in Chicago who love watching your videos every Sunday. Hope you consider the beautiful city of Chicago next time you come to the USA, we'd love to show you around. When I was in England in April, I visited Rye and Hastings based on your videos and loved them both. When I return in September, (I love the UK) I'm going to visit Lincoln, Rochester and Nottingham, all of which look great in your videos. Do you have plans to visit Norwich? One of my favorite English cities.

Lived abroad for years, so glad I settled back in this area when I came back. Probably not the most exciting city. However, it's attractive, clean, nice mix of architecture, very few empty shops on the high street and a really beautiful cathedral, It's also near the coast path and national parks. I was working in Exeter and I must have walked past those plastic/glass monoliths with bits in literally a 1000 times! No ideas they were there. Not been to Killerton House either. There is also a lovely quayside area which leads to some great walking spots. M

Thinking of moving to UK with my husband who is British.. everyone says it gets very hot there in summer now is that true?
@markwalker2627
@markwalker2627 2 ай бұрын
@@Samantha-xr4mxdepends on what you are comparing it to. Average temp is 20-23Cin the summer but in heatwaves it can be 28-34 or 35C. The issue is the humidity which makes it feel 10C warmer compared to 'dry' heat. Can be sticky at night due to no aircon in homes. Expect rain though due to the jet stream.
@Samantha-xr4mx

@@markwalker2627 how is tunbridge Wells, chester, maidenhead? I hate the heat.
@markwalker2627
@markwalker2627 2 ай бұрын
@Samantha-xr4mx To explain the weather in the UK in one word is changeable. The Jet stream which governs our weather usually means changing weather patterns, less so in the summer. Generally the further west and north you go the wetter and cooler it gets the further south and east the drier and warmer it gets. Stable weather(high pressure) usually wont last for 2 weeks so dont be worried of a summer of hell of high temperatures! Chester sits in the 'Cheshire gap' a flat land in between the Welsh mountains and Cumbrian hills and high moorland to the North of Manchester. It has more rain as does Manchester than other areas of England. Tunbridge Wells is in the southeast and will be a bit warmer and drier than Chester, as will Maidenhead but I think Maidenhead may have more rainfall being west of London. The winters can be wet and dreary though and days on end without any sun. We have what is called a temperate climate. Hope this helps!!

It’s forgotten as a tourist destination. It’s way outside the top 20 most visited cities in the uk and never seems to appear on any “must visit” lists. We also read recently that visitor numbers are way down in 2024 so far, not just for Exeter but the whole of Devon.

@@JJExtra fair enough, i just was thinking that it was never really a "known tourist destination" outwith uk and like alot of other things. time and technology have expand our possibilty's so folk are more likely to spend mone to goto.....ancient greece on a ryanair flight that will cost just a little more than shitty meal deal at motorway services on way to exeter.... i got excited as your title was a bit misleading as sounds like it will be an underground old abandoned part of town or something....
