Is This IEM Totally Outdated Now? Moondrop Kato Review.

I know, I'm a vtuber get over it.
The IEM market moves really fast and keeping up with new releases is tough. Fortunately there's IEMs from just last year that still sound incredible are are worth considering in addition to new releases. Today, I'm reviewing the IEM that I daily drive, the Moondrop Kato. There is an IEM which I think so is now a decade old, yea literal 10 years. and still its One of the Best IEMs in the entire world. Hidetion Viento B Custom

I still think the Moondrop Kato is amazing despite it's age. Can you find something better that sounds similar for cheaper? Yes but honestly the Moondrop experience is something else. A amazing box, a great selection of accessories, a solid case and cable. Tuning nozzles that allow you to replace them if anything goes wrong and also they come in three different looks. Personally if you are looking for a very good one and done IEM, the Kato should be on everyones list. I eventually sold mine but purely because I won a giveaway for the Moondrop Beautiful World which is just a better Kato but for 4x the price (Wouldn't be comparing unless I got it for free). I still recommend the Kato, same way I recommend the HD600 or MDR 7506. Old is gold sometimes.

@@tom_from_myspace Better is an opinion. If people like myself prefer this FR then the Kato is one of the best. My Moondrop Beautiful Worlds are the best IEM I have heard because they follow Moondrops VDSF target perfectly. I'd buy another pair if they weren't over $1000 where I live. Kato is the next closest thing. Not many that offer metal shell, nozzles to replace, good cable, case, colour options and the sound I'm looking for. Would I recommend them for a beginner or first buy? No.

I love your review and just purchased the kato on Amazon as a used iem for $139! I love the sound signature and everything top quality from the iem themselves, to the cabel, the case and the varied ear tips and filters! I hate iems that are good in themselves but have crappy cabel or flimsy pouch for expensive iems! Worse they give you a pin ir book marker or picture of wifu to use as a post card! Totally irrelevant!

A good iem is a good iem period. I have had the Moondrop Kato for almost two yrs. and imho is still very relevant in 2024. It’s easy to get caught up on the Chifi hype train. I did before I wised up about a year ago but no more.

I also dislike the thinking that just because something new came out everything else is terrible. Especially with the comparison between Moondrop's 1DD series and other's, especially Simgot's 1DD series. And I still think the Moondrop's quality in terms of accesories for the money is still one of the best out there and is still one of the best gift options out there. The Kato is definitely a certified classic. But the Aria 2 is out with the same tuning and tech, and relatively the same quality accesories, which is when I'd say the new option making an old option irrelevant is true since its just a cheaper priced version of the same product, otherwise its just recency bias.

Does the aria 2 feel better or similar than Kato? I like to get the Kato once i can afford it because of metal build and looks, but if the sound is the same with aria 2, its a bit more difficult to choose.

@@gerhartpaiso9152 Aria 2 has a better cable, a better filter swap system but has a worst case (bigger). The Kato has colors and a better paint quality but the shape can be a little uncomfortable. In terms of sound they're basically identical.

@@gerhartpaiso9152 yeah the kato basically has the aria shape, but instead of being smooth its a little angular, so it might poke some parts of your ears if your ears dont perfectly fit it. Its rare but can happen

​@@kaeroseon The aria 2 has more bass and the bass decay is noticeably slower than the kato. Also the Aria 2 suffers from moisture greatly. Mine has its paint chip after 2 months, and I always place my IEMs on the mouse pad (I try not to let them contact with hard surfaces), this is purely moisture. I have my Aria 1 for more than a year but it's fine. I think it's the new paint that is the poroblem

You can get the same sound quality or even slightly better with a pair of Tangzu WanEr and a $15 KZ silver blue cable (0.11 ohm resistance), you could also buy some spinfit w1, would've spended half the money and have a better experience. Thats what we mean when we say its no longer competitive. Is it good? Yes, its great, but you can get that sound for cheaper today, wich means we can no longer really recomend it even if its good. Won't even talk about iems at its price point today...

My IEM as well, if you're buying a new one, yep maybe try to get a new model but if you already own it you are really not missing a lot vs the new ones at the same price point hold on to it for at least 3 years (you really don't need to buy a new one unless it's already broke). But for me I would upgrade maybe after 3 to 4 years. 1 year (even 2 years) is just not practical it would just be a waste.
