SYNTH = you take a human who can paint, you give him/her a brush and paint, and from a blank canvas, he/she remakes you the Mona Lisa. He/She may be a good or a bad copist, and the result may be convincing or not. But the result is a true painting on a true canvas. That's SYNTH, a true sound born from a blank canvas. SAMPLING = you take the original Mona Lisa, you pass it in a photocopier, and you get the A4 reproduction. It will be good or not, depending on the quality of the photocopier and the paper. But the result will always be a simple picture of the original painting, it will *NEVER* be a painting itself. That's SAMPLING.

General Ackbar No Sampling is more like a collage and street art. Yes, it will never be as pure as a synth but it can be pretty complex, technical and interesting. You can also synthesize samples themselves.

I have both, the Roland V Piano and this Ivory software and believe me when I tell you that the V Piano is a super God light years ahead of this software! I can't begin to describe the differences, the abilities to sculpt and created/emulate any piano you desire with the V piano. I've recreated concert pianos, jazz pianos, rock pianos that I've heard from vintage recordings as well as the modern recordings once I learned how to manipulate the editing features and what the distinct characteristics of each and every piano in the V piano was. Maybe one day soon I'll do a video and let all see what I'm talking about. Oh yeah, and not to mention the mere fact that it's challenging to find a comparable keyboard with graded hammer action that will come close to a Steinway action, it's all in the V piano once you learn how to set the key touch parameters.

I have Ivory 2 and I am using Logic Pro X and to this day i am just not satisfied with anything I have produced as a MP3. Could you please create videos showing detailed steps of taking Ivory 2 MIDI and turning them into deeply real, "captured the soul of the piano" mp3 recordings? I would gladly buy these types of videos IF they in fact do DETAIL the steps involved in producing such a realistic finished product. Thank you.

*GUTS* > True. *No Simp Zone* > be careful, this is not a synth. This is a software for a PC. That means it is not sufficient alone. You'll also need a PC, a MIDI keyboard, a MIDI cable connecting the PC and your keyboard, and at least earphones, or an audio chain (amp+loudspeakers) in order to get a sound from it.

Owner of Ivory since it was released. It doesn't do realistic sympathetic vibrations which is a limitation of almost all sample based instruments. It sounds good. it does not come close to a real piano. Great for recording if you don't have the proper mics + insturment. Pianoteq has more potential in my opinion long term. Modelling is the future.

Far better sampled instruments than this product available. We are a long way off of a true physical modelling for keyboards. Getting close with some wind instruments. Will admit it has a nice tone but as I said there are far better 8Dio for example and Spitfire Audio etc. Research well before you buy is my best advice.

I've always been turned off by soft-synths due to the audio interface's latency which results in a noticeable delay between hitting the keyboard pedal and hearing the sound. I've been considering purchasing a Lynx card as its suppose to have the lowest latency. Was wondering if there might be a less expensive solution that you might recommend. I'm currently using an older Audiophile 2496 PCI card but most newer audio cards don't appear to have superior performance.
@johnbroadway7709
@johnbroadway7709 6 жыл бұрын
Norman Klein - Latency the critical issue. I am MAC based and therefore have limited experience of the wide range of PCI cards etc. I have used M-Audio’s Firewire 410 and was impressed (Still use it now and then). These days I use Thunderbolt on a Focusrite Clarett interface - which is amazing for both MIDI and Audio. Keyboard wise I use Roland’s Rhodes MK 80 and XV-88 for fully weighted and Novation SL MKII for semi weighted work. I am almost 100% Software based - using KONTAKT, BEST SERVICE and UBERSCHALL Engines either in stand alone mode or via AU in Logic Pro X. I have used Pro Tools, VSL and East West in the past but don’t think these products are worth the premium price. Workflow can have a major impact on the components. I tend to write using Notion (using the built in samples as a sketch) this enables both Midi and XLM files. These go to Logic and I remap the sounds and tweak where required - mostly adapting for cue points. Notion in my mind is by far the best product to give a good interpretation of the score. I only play real instruments for pleasure these days.

Michael Langley : it's also a matter of "how many samples for a single note". We see in the video there are several samples for a single note, to have different velocities. In another world called the pipe organ world, we know this technology of "big size sampling" since Hauptwerk came out, in the beginning of the years 2k.Hauptwerk is kinda like of a "GigaStudio" or "Kontakt" : a sample library manager, intended for PC, and specific to the pipe organ. In 2000 it only managed 1 or 2 GB banks with 8bits mono samples. Nowadays, it can handle stereo 24b banks that can go up to 60GB, and is intended to reproduce as accurately as possible a real organ in a real church, and not an anonymous "pie organ sound". Samples incorporate the natural reverberation of the church. You might hear some recordings on a website named www.contrebombarde.com - you'll be convinced we are far, far, far away from the "Church Organ" sound one can find on random keyboards (anyway, pipe organ samples on electronic keyboards have always been a shame).

If you're going to sample this way, why use an orchestrion to control the piano note playing, and MIDI to control the Orchestrion ? You want 128 velocity layers ? Use an actual velocity to produce the note(s). I would think you had better think you would like ti be more productive with your time. ;-)

I think the only way to measure a Sampled instrument is by asking yourself just one question. "Does this instrument make you want to just play and play?" For me the Ivory 2 is hands down "YES" When I plug my Korg M50 into my apple mini mac and use Ivory 2 as a standalone application I close my eyes and I do just play and play and I am happy. No other sampled sound has ever done this for me like Ivory does. My problem lies in Logic Pro X when I try to get that same finished sound into my finished output. So far I just can't get the depth of true realism in my MP3 songs as I have when I play them in. I hope these guys will make videos showing how to capture /preserve the soul of this beautiful sampler and keep it pristine in a finished MP3 song using Logic Pro X.
@esoteric6178
@esoteric6178 7 жыл бұрын
Victor Krottner you need to make sure the bit rate on the output in the plug in is set to its highest value. Also, do not compress to mp3. Keep it lossless. Then you have to check your render settings to ensure they are optimized.

emilshere : really, if you dare to pretend that a digital instrument is as accurate as an acoustic one, then, you probably think a CD of a concert is the same as the concert itself, a photography is the same than the object photographied, and a DVD on a 5.1 homecinema is equal to the movie inside the theater. These are things only a joker or an ignorant can say. Really.
@generalackbar245
@generalackbar245 6 жыл бұрын
I accept the fact that _some people_ can't tell the difference in _some conditions_ . But once one uses a serious audio system, the digital sounds quite quickly reach their limits. Once one listens carefully, it's like the MP3, one notices the weaknesses, or at least, that "something is wrong" even if one cannot precisely tell what. Don't take the producers ($$$) for fools : if they *could* replace the 80 persons that compose an orchestra, by a single PC or Mac or whatever digital device you want, they *would* , just because they'd hire extras to mimick the musicians on stage, and they'd pay them a misery. If they *could* replace the band that accompanies a singer on stage by a PC, they *would* and for exactly the same reasons. The only genuine "digital audio material" is provided by artists like Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Kraftwerk and all the electronic world, who build all their sounds based on digital devices. So, yes, nowadays one can barely record a demo with digital samples. But assuming publicly that "digital samplers" sound the same than "acoustic instruments" this is nonsense. Listen to a sax on keyboard, or guitar on keyboard, or violin on keyboard.... there is absolutely no match.
