This lens is amazing, quite sharp at F2 already. When I'm using it, I don' t regret to have sold my entire Nikon full frame (reflex) assortment. XT5mm + 90 mm F2 is much more portable than my old Nikon D780 + Sigma Art 135 mm and the results are comparable...

Had this lens for two years now. It is an absolute champ for my event photography. That autofocus speed and reach means I can spot spontaneous laughter or reactions and get a great shot. The rendering is also exquisite. How useful the focus speed is has me really considering getting the 33 mm 1.4. I love my 35 mm 1.4 but if it had the 90 autofocus speed it would be truly useful.

The Fuji 33mm f1.4 lens is tack sharp, has beautiful contrast, & has excellent autofocus speed. The 33mm,90mm & 200mmf/2 lenses are IMHO,are among the best lenses in the Fuji lens lineup. The 16mm, 18mm & 8-16mm wide angle lenses are also offer top tier performance.Best wishes for your Channel.😊

My favorite lenses are the 18 1.4, the 33 1.4, 56, 1.2 & the 90 F2. 🖖 My favorite zoom lens is the 16-55,2.8. What a lot of people referred to as a bag of primes.

I really need to try out the 16-55! I’ve heard so many great things, but I’ve never felt the need to switch from my primes except now that I shoot more video I think it would be beneficial haha

Thank you! I’ve been shooting heaps of drag events in the past few years where they tour a lot of the super famous RuPaul Drag Show queens here in Melbourne - if I’m honest I don’t watch the show and don’t really know who any of them are, but they’re all so lovely and it’s very fun to shoot the shows and meet and greets!

The Viltrox 75mm f1.2 is heavier than the Fuji 90f2 and has poor magnicatiion (.1) in comparison with the Fuji (.25 I think), which is important if you want close ups.

I just recently bought mine second hand for $850 it worked perfectly fine when I tested it and purchased then a week later when I finally got time to take it out properly it started buzzing and grinding really loud once the camera turned on. Luckily I got the original receipt and have sent it to Fuji fingers crossed they resolve the issue for me. Pretty devo

This lens has been my workhorse lens for most of my events and weddings for the past couple years. I have a similar 'review' of this lens on my channel also. I should say however, moving forward I think I will be replacing my XF90 with the XF50-140, that feels like the zoom equivalent of the 90, a bold thing to say indeed! At 140mm f2.8 you will get similar rendering and DoF to the 90 at f2 making me feel like keeping both is overkill. I think the 50-140 with the 56 is a good way to go (or at least the direction I am currently heading in). Good review and nice to see/hear another Aussie on the platform.

You don’t think the size of the 50-140 is just like too much tho? I recently got the 16-55 for video and I’m shocked at how good the red badge zoom is, but it’s certainly not as sharp as the 90 f2 or 18 1.4, but it’s definitely very versatile and has AF on par with these two primes which I thought were as good as it got for Fuji AF. I’ve recently been using my 56 more and more, I really like the size of it when compared to the 50 1.0, but the 1.0 does have something special about the way it captures images.

@@rudermanphoto "You don’t think the size of the 50-140 is just like too much tho?" Nah, not at all. It's very comfortable to use. I come from shooting FF (and some Med Format) and I really avoided the classic 70-200 zooms for the FF because of the size and weight, I was a FF prime only (wedding and event) shooter. I took that mentality over to APS-C when I went with Fuji, ignoring zooms and building a prime collection. But after a couple of years doing this... I'm getting over ferrying a bag of primes around and if being truthful I know I miss some moments time to time due to a lens swap or whatever. Not all events are alike, some are very formulaic (like a wedding) and some have much more spontaneity and unpredictability. I had a chat with myself and what matters more, capturing moments or a slightly less noise and thinner DoF from using primes.. I decided to try the 50-140, and wow what a lens... my first zoom which really feels like a 90f2 on steroids 🤣💪 Now I dual wield, one camera the Sigma 18-35 Art, the other the 50-140, with the 56 if needed. I feel freer and definitely increased my keeper rate. Just my personal journal, everyone's needs are different. One last thing... that red badge 16-55 does need a new updated version, it really needs to be internal zooming with no creep, but the 50-140... it has nothing at all that needs improved, literally every zoom range, identical optical performance throughout the range, so nice to shoot at whatever mm and not thing 'is this a slightly naff IQ length' etc. LM, WR, OIS, internal zooming, super flare resistant, compact and light for what it is. It's super. You asked in your video if you think there is anything else like the 90/2, and I'm saying (bizarrely) yeh... the 50-140 😄

Thanks for the video! I 100% agree with you. I got this lens used in April for $380(US). The image quality of this glass is shining. I mostly use it for travel and street photography, as well as for portraits. The aperture ring is so perfectly adjusted, there is just a bit of resistance. The lens is also really compact! I carry a camera with this lens in one hand and I don't get tired. I think people who designed this lens are true masters of their craft. I have also used this lens to take pictures of small birds, even though it's a bit tough. It led to some dire consequences, I have just ordered the 150-600... I have no money but I feel happy. I also think that this lens is not any worse than 200 f2, but it's so much more compact and much less expensive. Basically, 200 f2 is like this lens but on steroids. For me, this lens has replaced the 56. I stopped using it and sold it in the end.

The Viltrox 75mm is very good. I have it and the 90mm and they’re close in terms of sharpness. The 90mm is a tad sharper and it focuses a little better I think, but the 75mm is about half the price and has very little CA. I’d be interested to hear what you think since you own the 90mm.

Interesting, here in Australia the viltrox is really close in price to what I paid for my 90, $785 brand new vs $800 for the 90. I’d imagine having that 1.2 aperture would be good at night though!

@@rudermanphoto Yeah it’s nice for that! But it’s also good for subject isolation at a distance. Though the 90 is good for that too.
