Quick question - would you recommend a D2 over a Defender???!!!

IMO no comparison, Defender is a bit, no a big bit agricultural. D2 every time.

Wife drives a disco 2 and I drive a defender 200 tdi. Completely different vehicles but for mile munching I honestly don’t think there’s a better vehicle! I’ve done some seriously big miles in ours from the south west UK to Alicante in Spain in one hit via Calais and back! 4700 miles around Scandinavia visiting 9 countries and inside the artic circle in 12 days, that was towing a Sankey trailer with our roof tent. You couldn’t do that in my old defender!

D2 is like a more refined, luxurious Defender. I would recommend it over a Defender unless of course you are looking for simplicity-than it’s a Defender.

My 2000 D2 is my best friend. Highly recommend the inline thermo conversion and Ultra Gauge. That upgrade can easily save your engine.

My 2004 just passed 170k miles and is running great. The ones that aren’t were not taken care of.

I had a 2000 year td5 auto , would highly recommend. Mine was chipped and work done on the engine. Every thing worked, even the air lift . Sadly I sold it as it only did 14 miles per gallon. Still miss it though

We’ve had ours from new (2001 td5 ES7) and it’s a manual with around 175bhp.. it drives great. Last time I worked ours out we were hitting 30 MPGs just over which I thought was brilliant! I managed to get from Portishead to Salzbergen in west Germany on one tank of fuel which is around 540 miles! I must admit I was panicking as we were on empty when we found a fuel station.. that was loaded up and towing an ex army Sankey trailer as we were heading to Scandinavia wild camping with my wife and two young boys!

My dad had one we weren’t really impressed and he sold it and now has a 1994 Isuzu trooper doesn’t have the mod cons but is a much better 4x4 imo. I have a defender 110 td5 and I like that much better than a disco 2.

I had a TD5 manual version. Was a lovely drive and more comfortable than a Defender but it's different experience completely. You are right about the weeping gearbox and engine seals, you are very lucky indeed!😉If you get three intermittent lights on the dash AKA "three amigo's", check for a cracked PCB on the ABS unit. It's a very common issue with those. Unfortunately, motor tax in Ireland made keeping it unaffordable.

Discovery 2. Is one the most modern off road vehicles. Bar the defender 90 & 110. Buy and hold on to it. There priceless. And paramount importance for if the grid went down and rescue vehicles. First ⛑️ 🚑. And towing and off road . Carrying up to 7 passenger s
