Recently the duffers said el Hopper, Dustin and Lucas‘s story and here, but there may be a spin off from the other characters. Also that implies that they’re not dating anymore! Because if their story was intertwined mikes name would be on the list. They also said the boys and Ella’s relationship dynamic is going to go back to how it was in season one. that implies that they’re going to be platonic.

Because it just doesn't make sense story-wise. Why would the Duffers build up Mike and Will's relationship in s4 and have Mike say that they are gonna be a "team" if they weren't gonna be a pair in s5? Also why would the make Will have a crush on Mike SPECIFICALLY? Like if all they wanted to do was explore Will's sexuality then they could've easily just gave him a side character love interest in s4, but no. They CHOSE to make him in love with MIKE. If will was just going to get rejected and have another love interest in s5 why would they make him have a crush on Mike that just seems very random and unnecessary, considering Will has already gone through enough. I think in s5 they will explore MIKE'S sexuality and redeem his character through that since most of the fandom grew to hate him after s3 for just being a jerk. But the Duffers can explain that by giving Mike a deeper character arc that we just didn't see at first, involving his sexuality.
