You’ll find unique architecture because the park was originally built as the site of Expo 67 and then repurposed as a park. And its not a complete circle because the north side of the lake is used as the access road for the back parking lot and marina, as well as loading area for the fireworks competition that occurs during the summer.

Great video... Being from Montreal, I know more about the history of La Ronde... La Ronde used to be owned by the city of Montreal (after the big Expo in 1967). It was sold to SixFlags with a investments (100$M) promise in the first 5 years! They also had to keep the Montreal vibes (the entrance, the french name for rides etc...). SixFlags didn't do very well and on the last year (5th one), they had to spend 20-25M$, so it's why La Ronde had the Goliath. But then, nothing aside little rides here and there! ------------------ About Le Monster, they used to dual train more often (when they used to use 2 trains per side). Also it's the highest double-track wooden rollercoaster in the world! Sad to see the Ednor without water... because with the branding of the ride, they were talking about a Sea Monster in the lake (the Ednor who's RONDE backward). But it' strue in the last 5-10 years, Six Flags didn't invest much in the park (removing even more and more rides). And also, compared to many Six Flags, La Ronde is only open in the summer (+ halloween fest). Winters are rude probably for the rides. The best part of La Ronde, the biggest firework contest in the world with 6-8 fireworks each summer. But I wish Six flags would invest a little... La Ronde need a little bit of love... and can be a good park again!

Hi! I live in the Montreal area, and I’m actually a La Ronde ride operator! I work in the Ribambelle, the kid area, so I heavily doubt you went on the rides I work, but yeah. I joke a lot with my coworkers that we’re the Six Flags dumping ground, because we are. Our most recent ride was the Chaos which was added before the quarantine. They were going to add Green Lantern’s First Flight, the 4D coaster I think? The one that had the reputation of being a really painful ride. Anyways, we never got it cuz of covid, but point is: we’re the dumping ground. I love the park: I grew up with it, and it’s like a second home to me, but it’s quite empty. We used to have a standing coaster, the Cobra, that was removed for how rough it was. We used to have a log flume, La Pitoune, which was an Expo 67 original, but it got taken down because it was old. The Spirale is kept because it’s also an Expo 67 original, but it’s been old and stuff. I dunno. There’s a lot of things that could be improved. The Vekoma ride btw, the Ednor, was originally the Serial Thriller! Anyways, if anyone has questions, go ahead, I’ll answer what I can :]
@jetpackreco3 ай бұрын
Finished the video, and I’m not sure why all the rides had only one train since usually they all have two. Goliath, Vampire, Ednor, Dragon, and Monster at least. Boomerang doesn’t (duh) and the lil kid coaster doesn’t either. So idk you must have come at a weird day? Especially in June. There’s a lot of snow in the winter and that tends to do damage so maybe the trains were just in maintenance or sumn.
@jetpackreco3 ай бұрын
Sorry for a third comment! The maintenance also always happens during the summer because of the snow and all that stuff. The Boomerang had a repaint, but it was closed a whole summer. The Monster was closed for those two years because it was undergoing maintenance and the making of new trains. The rides are, mechanically, very well maintained, but the visual aspect is much harder to maintain due to both our seasons and the way Six Flags seems to just forget we exist sometimes. Hopefully the partnership with Cedar Fair will help make the park a lot nicer to look at, since they have more knowledge when it comes to keeping an amusement park in Canada going (Canada’s Wonderland).

Here's a couple thoughts as a local : Monstre used to be really good before they change the trains in 2013. The old lap bar gave lots of room, it was way smoother (now its unbearably rough imo) and it used to duel most of the time. Goliath is amazing but ride ops staples you way too hard. I heard the park have new trains with vest restraints for Ednor but are waiting for the actual ones to die before they change them so it probably won't go anywhere soon (I can't confirm on that one, it's something I read online from someone supposedly working there). The observation tower (la spirale) gave great views, especially Monstre that was so beautiful to watch from the top. It's now too old to operate but they don't want to pay to remove it. Poutine places in the park aren't the best, you should try one somewhere outside the park if you ever come back. You really missed on Orbite, the shut tower. It gives amazing ejector air time at the top (by far the best air time moment in the whole park) and does not compare with any other shut tower I've been on. The park was way better and prettier before and seems to be falling apart since the last 15 years.

Absolutely! The dive show and trampoline show were a must see, there was also a magician performing a couple time everyday. Those 2 rides you mentioned were on my top priority list every time I went there. I also made sure to visit the megadome nintendo every visit with their tournament, especially on a hot day with ac inside. Since six flags came in, they removed so many awesome things and replaced them with pretty much only boring/kids flat rides. Sure they added Goliath and Vampire but after that it went down hill. I grew up at that park going dozens of times every summer but now at 33 I still go couple times a year but I rarely stay for long, usually go in, ride Goliath, Vampire and Orbite, maybe 1 or 2 other rides than leave. It's sad to see what the park has become.

Six Flags almost killed the soul of this park. Lots of investments in the early days, and then, nothing. So many rides were torn down with no replacement. Hopefully things will turn around with the merger. You guys visited on a Monday in June? I don’t understand how there could have such long lines. Generally you can do all the rides in half a day in June, then it gets real bad in July and August. Then the lines are okay in September, and then October is the worst. The parking around Goliath gets full, and it’s impossible to ride anything… As for Le Monstre, imagine a moment what RMC could do… I just think about Wicked Cyclone at SFNE

I have lived in Montreal for over 13 years. I started going there in 2012, had season passes up until about 2014. It was all we had unless we drove hours to Canada's Wonderland in Ontario (where I am originally from). The park was almost always packed and you were lucky to get on 5 or 6 rides if you decided to stay the entire day. It's small because it's built on a little island which means no room to get new roller coasters or rides unless you tear older ones down. As old and crappy as it looked I like Le Menage, it had some great air time. It's unfortunately no longer there. We used to have a stand up coaster called Le Cobra which wasn't that great but better then the shit stain that is Ednor. It was my least favorite too, rarely rode it. You would think with how old the rides and roller coasters are the park would be cheaper but it's not, it's expensive. If you are American visiting Canada, don't come to La Ronde, use that money to go to Canada's Wonderland instead. It's night and day difference in terms of quality and you get what you paid for. Every year I watched Six Flag's announcement video PRAYING La Ronde would get some love and get a decent great coaster (obviously they would need to get rid of one to save room. *cough Ednor cough*. But every year it was either La Ronde or Six Flags Mexico that was treated the worst and we always got the short end of the sticks with mostly used rides or just boring nobody wanted rides. I gave up years ago on La Ronde. Don't recommend it.

That wooden coaster you rode is a Bill Cobb classic, and he was known for adding a “sense of humor” to his layouts. Le Monstre is big, but it isn’t big and dumb like Dinn’s disasterpieces. Rolling Thunder, though neglected by its park and the Riverside Cyclone had transitions that made you laugh more so than scare you, but the Cyclone could be thrilling as well! Rolling Thunder would race, but it had a more simplistic figure 8 out-and-back layout.

Ryan Clark (aka Canada Coaster Fan) lived in Montreal recently for a year without visiting La Ronde once, but that's probably because he cares about more than just roller coasters. But he does think Goliath at La Ronde has the perfect B&M hyper layout, only that it's only too short in height, drop and duration, and could be best best B&M hyper if it's drop was about 45' larger, with the track length scaled up proportionately, in which case it'd be a mile long and have a prime ride time of at least almost 70 seconds. I'm also surprised that you couldn't get a back seat of Goliath and had to settle for 2nd back because the line was too long in the back. I've never been there yet, but I guess that only goes to show that the people who DO go know about Goliath to know the very back car is the best Coaster experience Quebec has to offer, if not all of Canada (with the possible exception of Behemoth IMO, which I actually prefer to Leviathan). I guess that only goes to show that people in Montreal aren't stupid; they just have better things to do. But Goliath looks like an elite coaster to me (and also better than Coaster at Playland now that it's after Halloween 2020 when Coaster last operated without violently restrictive seatbelts that harm ops as much as they harm the ride). So if it makes you feel any better: I'm jealous I haven't ridden Goliath at La Ronde like you have. But I've ridden enough coasters that I'm ok with that "jealousy" (which I'd've hated it when I was too inexperienced riding elite coasters.)So from my perspective on this video: I find it more of a shame the ops at La Ronde are so bad, yet I can be thankful that it's not my problem. And If I ever do visit Montreal: I can guarantee it'll be for more than just roller coasters. But thanks for posting this fantastic video!

Ednor was meant to for the Great Escape (in my Great Escape 2007 video, I have clips of the track at the end….it’s an old video, it’s not clear lol). Anyway, Ednor was built at La Ronde because of the legal contract between Six Flags and the city of Montreal. When SF purchased the park from the city, they were required to put in an investment every year as well as a thrill ride every X number of years. And when the time came, the park hadn’t planned for a new ride and the scrambled and took the SLC in storage at Great Escape because it was nearby and easy and cheap to install. Also, Le Monstre is built by William Cobb, the same designer for Rolling Thunder at Great Adventure (RIP to my old ride when I was a Ride Op there) and the Og Riverside Cyclone at Six Flags New England. It's mostly travelling carnival type rides (with a few exceptions of course) and they're all extremely intense. Nothing mild for all ages, like the monorail, panorama tower or cable gondola they had years ago. What remains today is rusted and garbage strewn, giving it a rundown feel, sadly.

Velociraptor in Orlando has my heart these days but we wait for sprinkling rainy days here and then rip the Goliath 7 times in a row, do a monster and continue with the Goliath. The monster is why six flags probably snagged La Ronde. It used to hold a few more world records but now just the largest 2 track wooden coaster.
@domkid67233 ай бұрын
I agree tho. RMC the monster. I just feel we are limited here due to how expensive it is to maintain things after each winter. This might be it.

I related to your experience with the Ferris wheel since I had a similar experience with Giant Wheel at Cedar Point. Same exact situation. The funny thing is, my party left after 15 minutes and we told a guy going into the queue how long we had waited so he just stood there in front of the turnstile for a few moments, contemplating his next life choice. The ops actually shouted to him over the intercom “you can step through the turnstile.”

They really need to rebuilt another " Pitoune"..it was the main attraction. Also, rebuilt mini-rail,Super Manège, New Spirale ( higher speed) with lights LED, better food...etc etc...a lot to do

I think Jesiah mentioned Mont Jüic, that park’s other coaster moved just down the high speed line (before there was a high speed line to Barcelona). La Ronde easily has the better of the 2 coasters of them even though it’s just a boomerang

Great VLOG, couldn't agree more with your conclusions. As a Montrealer, I went so many times at La Ronde and yes, poor maintenance of the parc and poor operations has always been a concern. By the way, want to know the secret of Ednor and why it's so bad ? It's RONDE spelled backwards !

Vekoma Ferris wheels like the one at La Ronde are required by Vekoma to be balanced so most of them run at 2 sets of 5

This is my local park and all of your points were valid about the upkeep and abandoned rides. They recently removed the log flume and monorail which really pissed me off. I'm glad you did enjoy Goliath, Dragon, and Vampire because they're my favorite. I'd hoped you'd try the Titan because despite being a flat ride it is very scary but fun.

Imagine being in that Le Monstre ride, and instead of being like "WOOHOOO!!" the guy in front of you is just going "THIS IS SO PECULIAR 🤔🤔" What makes me sad is that you never got to see Tornade or Cobra in action. Or La Pitoune (rip my love) They removed much of the old iconic rides since my youth where I would go every summer. It used to be way more welcoming and lively (or I'm remembering with rose-colored glasses).

Yep haven’t been to la ronde in almost 10 years even though I’m a a Montreal resident ,and the problem is why have an association whit six flag if you can’t keep the six flag standards it’s like owning a McDonald’s but you can’t make the Big Mac whit the proper sauce or you have diffrent type of fries then the classic McDonald’s fries !! Great vid very informative it definitely need to get more invested in the park it could make the park amazing

I think replacing Ednor with a different coaster would be better. Relocating Ednor and adding maybe a launch coaster would be a good idea.

That park was way better maintained when the Ville de Montreal was operating it, but they had a strong employee union and when they went on strike the city wanted out of that business. Who here is old enough to remember the 1967 Minirail and Gondolas that moved you from one end of the site to the other.

I stopped going because it's falling appart and endless lines. Mostly the waiting. You need to go a day that's suppose to be rainy, like 60% probability and cross your fingers otherwise it's a nightmare.

Loved the video! Thank you for sharing your experience there with us. Okay a couple of things... haha 1. Poutine is pronounced "Poo-Tin" and not "Poo-Teen" 2. ALL Canadians love Poutine, not just French Canadians 3. Six Flags management heavily neglects La Ronde. I know upper management and they are constantly requesting more funding and it's always being denied. The park ownership/management is committed to making the park great, but Six Flags ownership/management is not. 4. Opinions at the end were extremely accurate and fair. It's objectively one of the worst 'big' parks in North America. 5. I know you went for the coasters, but you slept on the Titan. It's pretty fun and worth the experience at least. If you ever go back, make sure you do it. 6. You should have got a Beavertail. They are a must when visiting Canada.

i have a season pass and 3 times out of 5 there has been no water "contaminated" scamming anyone with an orange cup (infinite fountain drinks) forcing people to buy 6$ bottle of water. or you have to go to the front to get some from a big tanker. someone should investigate that. Very suspicious.

One of the only major parks in the country??? Hello? What’s Canada’s wonderland, marineland, the west Edmonton mall?
@drewpatterson82613 ай бұрын
West Edmonton Mall got rid of their rollercoaster. Marine land has been gutted, and their rollercoaster doesn't run anymore. Canada's wonderland is honestly the only major park in the country worth visiting. It's no surprise so many Canadians go to Florida during their winter break, and ride the rollercoasters in Orlando. Marine land was sold to a new owner. Hopefully they can turn the park around.

It got worse over the years. I'm a local so I still go there every couple of years. It was great in the 80s and 90s. Lots of great memories with friends and family. Not so much anymore in my opinion, the atmosphere is no longer the same since the year 2000. In terms of rides, there is a lot of changes since 1992.
