I live in the area and will relay some experience what to expect. The road isn't dangerous, it's the reckless individuals that make it dangerous and most are always from out of town. For the Dragon itself, you might see a few motorcycles crossing the double line but more cagers in high-end sports cars will usually cross that double yellow line coming the opposite direction in blind corners. The folks on the Dragon going stupid fast are usually locals who know it like the back of their hand and they will never cross the double yellow whether they are in a cage or bike. If you are on a big ole Harley, don't ride it like someone on a supermoto. Ride on the outside lane. If you are on other roads in the mountains, watch for blind corners because I GUARANTEE YOU will have a cager coming the opposite direction with their head deep into their smartphone and they will be in the middle of the road if not in your lane and going fast. My brother-in-law used to work as an EMT in the area; also have a friend who owns a towing company that pulled many from that road. They have some really gruesome stories to tell. Very, very, very few people who wreck on the Dragon or other roads in the area walk away. Some spend weeks, months in the hospital with life altering injuries and most end up dead. Ride your own ride is rule of thumb. Don't cross the double yellow. These are public roads used by locals to get to and from. It's not your private race track! The state of North Carolina almost closed their side a few years ago due to the reckless individuals. You will encounter tourists who have no idea what this road is so be patient and understanding as it's one of the few roads available to get across the mountains. Expect a lot of traffic on the weekends unless it's snowing.

Great ride along video, I felt like I was there riding behind you at the same pace. By the way, thanks for all your instructional vids. I’ve been riding for 30 yrs since and considered myself pretty good at lower speeds. But using your practice suggestions have made a big difference, thank you! I was out with my buddies yesterday and we needed to make a few u-turns on tight little back roads. We ended up stopping at the Pineville Tavern in PA for lunch and 2 of the guys asked “how the hell did you make those turns back there??” I turned them on to your Channel and you’ll have some new subs.

I'm a local in western NC. I love riding the Dragon, but I don't go during the busy months. Like you said, the road itself isn't dangerous, it's some of the riders and drivers that are. When it's real busy at the Dragon, I like to ride the other twisty roads we have here. I go fairly fast. Not racetrack fast, but fast enough to enjoy the lean.

Hey Robert...We've ridden it 3 times and believe it is no more dangerous as any other twisted roads. As you stated, it's the rider responsibility to know his/her skill level. We have many roads in Cali that are twisted and ride them daily, but on unfamiliar roads we go easy. So maybe we have gotten used to twisted roads prior to riding the dragon. Is it our favorite road...not by far, but it is a very fun road .Most people think I ride fast...I tell them it's the technique that I use that get me through the twisted rides faster than most. YUP! We will ride the dragon again.

Thanks for taking us along. The camera angel is really cool, good work. I live in western Wa and have read about the Dragon for years and how it would compare to some of the roads we ride daily. The dragon is somewhat over rated from what I saw when compared to our local mountain passes and canyon roads. When the time comes to ride this road it's going to be crack of dawn Sunday morning. Fortunately for me I'm an early riser and I've found that if you can get out at that time you've got the road to yourself til about 8 or 9 AM. No matter if I'm at home here in South Jersey or anywhere. This time of year it's light at 5 AM and it happens to be Sunday today. So I'll have 3 or 4 hours out there practically alone. Robert, the effort you put into getting your message out there is commendable and now that I'm a VIP I see the mistakes I used to make every time I ride with someone. It's not their fault like it wasn't mine when I was ignorant of proper technique. But your preloaders are out here steering riders your way and one by one we're becoming better, safer riders. Thank you.

Awesome video brother. My buddies and I rode the Dragon for the first time 6-12-22. It was an awesome experience. From what I experienced, speed and "target fixation" are probably the leading cause of motorcycle accidents here. Looking through the turns and controlling speed and a rider will have a great experience. We rode the Cherohala Skyway prior to riding the dragon. It was absolutely gorgeous scenery. I love the camera angle. I truly believe your video will give riders the true view of riding the dragon and what it entails!!! Keep up the great videos and shiny side up, my brother!!!
Well I guess they cleaned it up since I was there about 5 years ago because the last time I rode there you could not see over the treetops in any of the openings

I would be more comfortable riding the dragon than riding thru knoxville by far. But I have used a lot of body bags working ems up there. The lack of overtaking spots would really get to me. I'm not a Street Rossi but that would aggravate me. Maybe it's because I'm a Brit and all our roads are that thin and twisty. Not all of them are that beautiful though.

If you like that then you will love the road I have named THE SIDEWINDER. Go out of Gatlinburg on 321 towards Cosby Tn. Turn right on 32 going towards Mt Sterling. 11 miles of twisting turns tighter than the dragon and very little traffic. Great pavement. The pavement ends at the Appalachian Trail and turn to hard pack dirt for about a mile. You can go on down and turn left and go out to I40 or turn around and run THE SIDEWINDER again. Check it out!

Bonjour Robert. Really enjoyed your video, especially the second half while riding with the two Harley riders. Finding the right pace with the right group of people can be very rewarding. I remember reading an article in Motorcyclist Magazine in the early 90's (The Pace: Nick Ienatsch, November 1991) and it made a big difference in my riding abilities. I started riding in 1985 on sportbikes (GPz, ZX, GSXR) and switched to power cruisers (M109) and now i am riding a Victory Vision. I would like to quote Mr. Ienatsch : " Performance street riding's only yardstick is the amount of enjoyment gained. Hammer on the racetrack, pace yourself on the street." Greetings from Montréal, Québec. 🖖
This is impressive. A nice demonstration of transitioning smoothly from brake to throttle for better riding in all situations but especially for the proper safety and control during cornering. And the cornering angles speak for themselves. I have photos of from track-days on me on a Jap super-sports machine with my knee down with less bike angle than shown here. Hat off to you sir.

Great video. I have ridden the Dragon at least 6 times. You nailed it, the most dangerous thing about it are the other folks doing it. Sport bikes passing you where they shouldn't, folks coming the other way over the double yellow. Then there is the Dragon lull. You get used to the turns, and all of a sudden there is a different angle, and a different lean. Last time there, we were stopped part way through because a tree had fallen across the road and a biker had crashed. It's a really cool ride, but over-hyped. AND, don't forget the Po Po. Sometimes never there, sometimes....oops if you're over the speed limit.....which is pretty slow.

If you haven't rode Cherohala Skyway, you should. lot of twist but numerous sections you can pass on and areas where you get to look around. As for those getting vertigo, tell them to look ahead just like looking through the turn. Great Job!

Robert! You are a blessing man! Much love and respect brother! You have taught me a boat load straight up! Because of you I am a way better rider now. 44 years of riding dirt and street with some classes all in between made me think there wasn't much left. Boy was I wrong. How to ride a slow roll. Man, you taught me what I never knew. Like icing on the cake baby! Glad I found you man! OK, So my thought if it's means anything regarding you asking about..., "THE CAMERA ANGLE" ... It's friggin great! Love it! 1 year and at this time 711 comments later, maybe it's been addressed already? But here I am, Johnny come lately to share a though on the vertigo... if I may... I think the effect is 2 fold. Maybe comes from: 1.) The pole/whip that the camera is mounted on. 2.) The camera's image stabilization. Don't know much about the brand and setup you have here but perhaps it's the continuous bouncing up and down and side to side movement of the pole/whip? Think of the movie "The Blair Witch Project (1999)". The days of when the video cams didn't have the built in image stabilization to compensate for movement if you didn't hold it really steady. Even then it was a challenge! Funny though, it almost looks animated like you're watching a video game. Just a thought. Whatcu think Robert? Or Anyone? Way off or seems accurate? Already been discussed? This is a year old video so I dunno, maybe things have changed with the brand since? Revisions/updates? Regardless, very cool indeed! Love all your content. Tons of great stuff. Always fun. Love the comradery. Love the variety. Even comedy at times! You're doing it right! Thanks for feeding us only the good stuff! You made a huge diff to me and I'm seeing many many others too! And all wrapped up in real positive vibes. Very nice! Thank you Robert!

I don't live anywhere near the Dragon, but in AZ we have plenty of twisty roads, and I plan on using and taking all the advise that you give on this and all your videos, when riding twisties. Thanks for the knowledge Robert, ride hard, ride safe. Peace.
Love the camera angle. Definitely gives that GTA5 experience. Almost looks animated.

Hella of ride Robert, I’m 63&1/2 now and just cruising, but I enjoyed every second of that take and the 360 camera angle gives the viewer an accurate experience of what it feels like, it improves rider quality and the people you’re helping be the Boss of their motorcycles. I’ll send you a picture of my street glide and the first Road King ever invented before Harley-Davidson copied my style. Doc ShoURight Graves The Original Road King.

One of my many "to-do" rides this season is the dragon. I'm hoping I can get to it before the weather turns. I'm thinking maybe in the fall when there's less traffic there. Every video I've seen of it looks like a lot of fun. I love the shots from the camera of the rear of your bike. I don't film rides and know just about next to nothing about it. When I first saw your film like that, I thought you had some kind of drone that followed you. (yeah, I'm a noob) That truck that slowed you down may have been God's way of protecting you from something. Although frustrating as it was. Ride Safe and keep up the great videos!

One of the things I do when I am on a ride is make a mental note of mistakes I have made along the way. It is very difficult to make a PERFECT ride! No mistakes. These mistakes are not deadly but they are mistakes and you never know what could go down. Taking a turn a little wide, getting too close to a vehicle in front of you, breaking correctly. There are lots of things that could be done better but you ride and learn and if you practice the low speed drills it helps a lot!

Always something new to learn or realize from watching your videos Robert regardless of one's years of riding or experience. Don't know if I'll ever get to ride the Dragon, but it is on my to do list. Like I always say to myself and other riders, "ride safe, ride smart"!
I rode the Dragon on June 7th and it was great as always other advice on the Dragon is to Avoid the Painted lines o trail brake both front and rear at the same time and release the front as I get to the apex of the corners. Love your videos

I rode from Southern California to Deals Gap last September, bad timing since we hit the Dragon in the rain which wasn't ideal. I enjoyed the Cherohala Skyway much more than the Dragon.

I rode my ultra limited through there, twice. It was single up though. Have not done it 2up as my wife is afraid. Bike does react slower 2 up. Alot of the roads up there are challenging. 28 the 441 or 19 to name a few. 129 is fun, especially up from robbinsville.

Like your channel and your instruction. Slow speed is an area of need... for me... and many of my fast friends. I've been to the Dragon and Cherohala skyway a handful of times including early April this year and I'll be back late August. There are no better roads in the Eastern US.

I am enjoying all of your teachings and I am really impressed with this camera angle. It’s awesome plus I do love the pipes. I have just started riding again after four years of not riding. I am 68 and my goal is to ride the dragon at 70 I just bought an older heritage softail, and I’m just trying to get back into the groove again, I really think that this video of the dragon tail you should make it into like a learning video like for PlayStation or classes for motorcycle driving. It is just awesome so please continue to do what you are doing as far as teaching you have actually helped me quite a bit to regain confidence in the whole motorcycle driving especially with twisties. I did try to click into your KZbin video and it said it wasn’t available so I don’t know if it was on my end. Somethings wrong or if that’s not available anymore. But I just want you to know that before I bought this motorcycle. I was watching learning videos the whole year as I was looking for a motorcycle and I have seen every video probably possible, but your teaching has opened up an area of regaining or increasing my confidence in driving my new little heritage. Thank you please keep up the good work. You are an awesome teacher.!!!
You have to ride South Dakota 16A dragon is fun and closer but can't compare the two. Also the riders seem way more experienced.

That camera view is awesome, I seen that camera view for the first time when you were with Traveling Tall riding the Dragon. I also love those Tab Performance pipes. I'm planning on getting them for my Ultra soon. I like listening to them but I just wanted to let you know the music in the video you did with Traveling Tall on the Dragon was a great choice. Keep up the good work I enjoy your videos.

Great video. I've watched several dragon videos and with the helmet cams , it makes their speed look double what they're actually doing. We rode it late October and was getting cold so the crowd wasn't too bad. My wife took her tri glide on that thing which to me is more difficult because it's all arm strength. I rarely hit the brakes. I ride a road like that in 1 gear lower than usual. Rpms are pretty high but the engine braking assists in an emergency stop. There's lots of roads like this in North Alabama just not as long. It's curvy but not as bad as I was expecting.
