Even though this isn’t an ultimate, wouldn’t it technically be inspired by the vintage playmates toy? So maybe there is still hope for more playmates inspired ultimates.

They said that they're alternating waves between 2003 and vintage toy inspired. According to Flynn like a month ago, wave 11 is toy Rat King, 2 other toy homages, and a TMNT in a costume variant that's never been done before. My hunch is that Nickelodeon asked them to keep the vintage toy tributes to less than half the line's output after they had a heart-to-heart, post-Rat King. So they accomplish that by doing alternating 2003 waves and the other alternating waves are 25% new designs. That gets them down to 3 vintage toy homages for every 8 figures, just under half.

I'll just add: I think "less than half" may have been the rule with wave 10. They did do Rocker Leo. (Who, granted, had appeared elsewhere.) My hunch would be that they initially interpreted "less than half" to mean 1 figure out of 4 or 2 figures out of 5 in a 5 figure wave. But with the 2003 "alternating waves" idea in play, the toy waves can have toy homages be 3 out of 4 or 4 out of 5 because the 2003 waves balance it out to "less than half". That would let Super7 do 6-8 toy homages a year if they can get back on track. And if 2003 doesn't work out, they have to find something else "not vintage toy based" to dilute their releases and keep the total at least 50% "not vintage toy".

I kind of took this as a "stand-in" figure for Ultimates, because he would probably be too expensive to do fully articulated and in PVC. Aside from articulation, it would integrate into an Ultimates display pretty well! I think they've been quiet on TMNT because the current waves have been delayed so badly. I'm sure they'll unveil more once things start to ship, but the line has definitely lost steam. Supposedly they're going to alternate between Playmates waves and 2003 waves. I thought Flynn said they might show something off for NYCC, but I don't remember for sure. There's also supposed to be a Toxic Crusaders exclusive for the show! I'm assuming a glow-in-the-dark Radiation Ranger, then they're planning on unveiling wave 4 after that, I think.

Is Super7 always a Mister Toad's Wild Ride? It seems like they sort of haphazardly make their way through lines (Disney stuff, Silverhawks stuff, now maybe the retro Playmates TMNT stuff) and grab headlines with gigantic releases that take up too much room and is that it? With all the competition out there, does it make sense to take a chance on building any Super7 collection? Or is it better to treat Super7 more like one-off purchases? And now you have Hasbro releasing Classified retro card figures to more closely resemble the old cartoon/vintage toys aesthetic. So does that mean that Super7's overpriced G.I. Joe Ultimates line is a dead man walking because I think Classified just drank their milkshake

It isn't about quality. I think it has more to do with Playmates getting mad about them using their designs. The only QC issue I've had is loose joints. Figures falling over. Nothing that some lock tight super glue can't fix. Squrt some in the joint move it back and forth till it drys. 😊 works like a charm.

S7 releases are outrageously delayed. They literally can't announce anything new because it will be out to 2025 or beyond for release dates and hopefully they've learned how pointless that is to do. Their QC is soooo bad right now that I think they are cost cutting everywhere they can. Honestly I think they spread themselves too thin, bit off way more then they can chew and the Cats Lair was more about creating a windfall of cash for them, more then it was about satisfying customers. Also betting that when that thing comes out there's going to be a shit storm of issues with it. No way they execute everything they promised in a single shipment. Pretty sure I'm in the minority with my interest in their Transformers line and the latest releases had mold defects, paint issues, loose joints out of the box and so did my replacements. Very much prepared for the remaining announced waves in that line to be canceled. S7 is a disaster waiting to happen.

I don't know...This Cyborg series S7 does is kind of it's own thing. They just did a G.I. Joe B.A.T in Cyborg series while they're actively doing the GI Joe Ultimates and Reaction line. Same with MMPR's also. You could be right, but my guess the Cyborg series is just it's own thing.

GOOD NEWS: Brain Flynn was interviewed by the fwoosh cast and they said that going forward the waves will be vintage, 2003, vintage, 2003 and wave 11 is in development and will have a new turtle not in the original line, rat king, and a couple others

They have three waves that currently are in production and are on record as saying they don’t ever want more than that. I suspect wave 10 will be announced once the next wave hits, which according to their website, is on the water.

Hey Hatter, I wouldn't be too upset. They have 4 waves outstanding and waiting to get in customer hands, when they normally only like to have 3 pending. Brian has said that promoting more Ultimates when stuff is outstanding feels "disrespectful" to the customers waiting for their product. Trust me, they are just as, if not more quiet about their Godzilla stuff which drives me nuts, but I think you can safely expect AT LEAST the rest of the frogs and Neutrinos.

I agree. I think it's nearly dead. The other sad thing is that with them dropping this Krang, it's pretty likely that even if the line goes on, we won't see this thing released in the Ultimates with the proper articulation. Just a massive bummer.

I was a huge super 7 ultimate fan I was collecting every single property but at the beginning of the year I decided to sell off everything from them I no longer trust air quality or their schedules. I also don't trust Brian Flynn the more interviews I see the more he reminds me of used car salesman.

The Super7 guy sort of implied in an interview that Playmates was pushing back on Super7 using their old designs. And also that Playmates has more pull with Nickelodeon at the moment since they're handling the Mutant Mayhem line. The vibe I got was that Super7 is waiting for Mutant Mayhem hype to die down so that Playmates has less leverage to make requests for Nintendo to hold Super7 back.

One positive sign is that this cyborg Krang has many elements that are in the vintage line. The blue accessories and the silver and blue are part of the vintage line. The big dispute that was rumored is they can’t do things exclusive to the toy. On the over hand the pop a few years back had the blue and silver on it.

I will be honest I only have a couple Super7 figures. I like their concepts in general,the execution is where I am left wanting. I do have hopes for the Karai, let it be a winner. I wish the same for your Krang.✌️

I've still got all my TMNT preorders. Just eating the bullet and not waiting for a sale to keep the line alive. But I do think I'm going to cancel my krang preorder since its not ultimates like we thought.

Listening to the most recent Fwoosh interview and it does sound like they are transitioning into other things. Sounds like being 10 waves in that people are losing interest. He did mention that the next series will be redesigned Rat King, an original turtle design, and two others.

We still have to see the alleged "correction" to Rat King, so fingers crossed we still have some Playmates stuff to look forward to. The Ultimates line had so much potential and I would to have Ultimates of all the vintage guys through 1993.

Hmm...they could probably still sprinkle some of the 80's/90's figures in through the line while shifting their primary focus on the 2000 stuff. I've cut back on a lot of these because the prices are getting too high for me. I get lucky every so often and find something on Amazon or elsewhere for cheaper, but if the Power Rangers line is any indicator, if too many people do that the figures just won't get made. Like with Madame Woe and the White Tiger Zord being cancelled due to lack of sales.

Especially with Playmates pushing the Mutant Mayhem line hard right now. If it is the end, that would be a shame. I was hoping for Playmates inspired Super Shredder.

This Krang is pretty sweet. I always liked their cyborg line. But I don't have the biggest hope for more of the vintage Playmates designs due to low pre orders and Playmates telling to ease off a bit. I do hope I am wrong because there are so many more I want them to do.

I think they were doing a great job with the TMNT playmates line. But after watching several videos of other people complaining about different figures, I wasn't all in on the line and I was only cherry-picking the ones I wanted. I have noticed on a lot of the toys sites they have been marked down. I took this as a warning sign that things probably weren't looking great, plus the price point of $55 and increasing is a little crazy I think that put alot of people off the line. When comparing with NECAs tmnt toy line and their quality and being cheaper I think they're getting their ass kicked, but they did offer something different compared with them. I hope this is not the end, I was looking forward to other figures from the old Playmates being reimagined in Super 7s image.

I think they just have too many outstanding waves for them to be revealing any new ones. They’ll probably show off the next wave after they get another of the outstanding waves in peoples hands. I didn’t get the impression from any of Brian or Kyle’s interviews that they were scrapping the vintage inspired figures. If I remember correctly Kyle even said not that long ago that they might end up doing Pizzaface. I’ve heard the claim that it was considered a few waves back, and may have been sculpted, but he was too grossed out by it so it got set aside.

I was really confused as to why after so many lines, Super7 was asked to halt. Tho that’s when playmates started re releasing their original toys. To me. There was enough room for both. Idk. I’m the end, although both overpriced and always late. I enjoyed their updated take. And was looking forward to the more zany Tmnt variants and hard to come by figs like Dr El.

The line isn’t dead. At PowerCon they indicated 2003 would alternate waves with the playmates waves. They haven’t shown anything because they are 4 waves deep on preorders plus the turtlevan. They won’t show new stuff until they get caught up on outstanding waves.

So, this is pretty close to a 1:1 of the old larger Playmates version, bad articulation and all so maybe they are able to keep going. They did say in one their recent interviews that Playmates would be mixed in with 2003. That probably means 2 Playmates and 2 2003 figures, maybe? I do think their sales have dropped due to their continuing downhill fall in quality. I was a diehard Super 7 Ultimates collector until you and Geek Dad had some videos making me rethink things. I've since sold off everything and am only focusing on Transformers, mechs etc. Sooooo, this will get added to fight my Heatboys TMNT figures lol. I am interested in seeing their next reveals for TMNT though as I think past character selections have been weak and that really has hurt that line as even that Karai seems to be from Shredder's Revenge as was that Rat King before they axed him, so it seems they've been trying to drift away from it for a while.

They have been quiet lately. It would be a shame if we couldn't get more playmates inspired from super7. I really want a Napoleon Bonafrog, Anthrax, Pizza Face, Wyrm and Scale Tail. Was also hoping for mega mutants Killer Bee and Needle Nose. And please don't crush my fantasy of a Technodrome, Super7. Even if it is pure fantasy.
