I am an older gentleman American maybe I am missing something so I see it far differently than the culture. I see a bunch of young girls being pimped. If I am wrong I apologize. Maybe if I knew the chants it would change my mind l. The rhythm is beautiful I just don't see the reasoning for kicking your leg or legs as high as you can as sometime little girls you call virgins should aspire for.

There are many dances from mostly primitive tribes and cultures that the females use sexual hip gyrations and thrust movements ; from the Hawaiian Hula dance, Arab belly dance, Jamaican dance-hall, and sub -Saharan African Zulu, Amapiano, Lindithuba Hoho neBuyelekhaya, and many others. Twerking is just a name given in the 90's , primarily in New Orleans, for something that some women were doing decades earlier but was dubbed " Booty Shaking"... from the 1980's Miami Bass " Luke Skywalker, 69 boys, etc. the twerking name just caught on.
