Do you remember the version with the 'woodwork' on the side? Reminiscent of American shooting brakes of the time.

Absolutely stunning condition! That must of had a "really proper" inside out respray when it was done, the finish on the boot floor and engine bay etc would never have been to that standard even when it was brand new! Fantastic, I love it. Good luck with the sale.

My first car in 1975 (although a saloon and a 63). 257 GXH, same colour Goodwood green. Recon engine & gearbox. Took me all around Europe, Scotland, to work every day, plenty of space, huge boot. Put a twin-choke Weber on it and 5 1/2Js. Great car, maybe better even than the Mark 2...? It died of rust unfortunately. I had to renew the old-style log book and I sent it in for renewal rather than say I'd lost it (mistake). But I remember the first owner was Lilian Dorothy Hughes of Cliveden Court, London Road Brighton. It then went to a Timothy James Pantin in Haywards Heath I think. Wish I'd kept that old log book...

Amazing, someone has really cared for this, I doubt it has ever spent the night out in the rain. My first car was a 65 Cortina Saloon, which was a column shift with a long bench seat. Mine was the more powerful 1500. Not nearly as good condition as this. The fuel cap didn't have a key lock on it, so I replaced that to stop gas getting siphoned, rust got to the doors and sills it was becoming a losing battle keeping it road worthy on a student income, sadly forced to sell it in the early 80's.

Absolutely incredible ! If this was a 2 door 1500 GT it could command £40k + . I've restored the most important Lotus varients in the world and the paint finish is flawless . It is so rare to have an audio description and forgive me for saying, but you spent too long highlighting the flaws , of which they were very few . I was desperate to know the asking price ....sub' £20k ? This really deserves to be a museum piece at Dagenham or perhaps Haynes ? Thankyou for sharing .

These were great cars, I had 4 of them, 1 after another between 1972 and 1980, the first one was an estate like this one, 1964, reg. no. 3XDE, light green with cream flash, column gear change and bench front seat, it had drum brakes all round but I changed the front struts for a pair from a Ford Corsair which had discs giving much better brakes. Second was a 1966 super 1500 saloon, GXA225D, with the through-flow ventilation (aeroflow?) and larger front side/indicator lights, car was turquoise colour, I made a panel for 4 extra gauges fitted next to the heater controls, also an 8-track stereo, all the rage in those days, and fitted 5J steel wheels (GTspec). Third was another 1966 super 1500 saloon, DSX20D, dark maroon colour. Fourth was yet another 1966 super 1500 saloon, GYS863D, dark green with a white flash, the rear springs were always poor on the saloons so on this one I fitted coil springs from a vauxhall viva between the rear axle and the "chassis" above the standard leaf springs to assist with carrying camping equipment etc - it gave the car a bit of a firm ride !!! (I plated the "chassis" area for strength). I also fitted a 4-branch manifold and twin choke webber (GT spec) and stainless exhaust on this car. Loved every one of them, unfortunately they all ended up in the scrappy, 2 from rust, 1 from some clown that drove across in front of me at the traffic lights and 1 from someone smashing into the back of me. On this video the car is in remarkable condition, think it must have been kept indoors !!! It's a deluxe but I think the chrome strip trim along the side and around the doors was only standard on a super , the doors on mine all closed with the same ease as the video, I seem to remember Ford spoke about that as a design feature in their sales pitch. The salesman pointed out the wee Ford badge on the nearside front wing but there wasn't one on the offside wing - don't think they would've been standard either. All-in-all, brilliant cars, wish I had one now !!!

I had one, it was a lovely car, I loved driving it. It was very capable because it was light. A very good engine and running gear, but the body couldn't handle the treatment I gave it. I was young and stupid. It was my first car, everything was easy to fix. I threw a clutch plate and replaced it myself. I can't remember why I had to replace the left hand strut but I ordered a left hand strut, but they got a right hand strut and I looked at it and decided it could be fitted so I fitted it OK. All I had to alter was the brake fluid pipe so I gently bent it so it came in from the front instead of the back of the strut. It worked OK. Never had a problem.

I remember pulling a 1200 engine out of a MK1 from the breakers yard and putting it in my 1000cc Anglia 105e, it was very quick off the mark but top end and fuel consumption was rubbish. I didn't think about the difference between the gear and diff ratios back then.

Apart from the 1340cc Classic engine the 1200cc Cortina engine was by far the worst engine Ford ever produced, the later 1500 five bearing engine were miles better, the 1300 and 1600 Crossflow engines were great,a friend of mine bought a new 1200cc two door model and only kept it 4months because of its lack of power,my dad bought a new Corsair 1500cc four door which went like the clappers but was knackered at 45,000 miles, the camshaft and followers failed and on dismantling all the pistons were cracked, the crankshaft was perfect so I rebored the block, fitted a new camshaft and followers and timing chain and tensioner and rebuilt the engine with new crankshaft bearings and thrust washers.

I think I might have slipped a 1500 into it ,just to make it drive a bit better at some stage. For sure it never carried more than the driver and one passenger and certainly only one empty suitcase. My experience of the Ford1200 ohv engine was that it was a great bonus in a 105e but in a 2door Cortina it was painfully underpowered so goodness knows the rate of progress in this extra weight bus?

Really nice car, REALLY. I suspect that there may be a historical angle behind the registration number. If you don’t like geeky stuff, look away now! This car must be very early 1964, maybe even a New Year’s Day purchase (wasn’t a bank holiday back then). It’s just a bit strange that I used to pass a light grey (maybe two tone light grey and white) two door Cortina, reg number ABU4B on my way home from school. It was 1964, back then, the year letter ran for the calendar year, Oldham CB had not adopted the year letter ‘A’ so the car must have been the fourth car registered in Oldham under the year letter scheme. It could be worth talking to DVLA to find out if this car is the last pre year letter reg in its own area.
