NOTE: I mistakenly installed the light bar upside down (duh!). When right side up, the ramps sit on the flat piece of the angle, which would have them them sitting higher off the ground when driving down the road. - Stephen

I too thought that. But, in Stephen's pinned comment, he mentions that the light bar was mistakenly installed upside down and that one of the things this did was allowed the ramps to sit slightly lower than they would be if properly installed. While minuscule, it would help some.

they work all right but like stated they do rub in very rough terrain so i drilled another hole to level the ramps with the bumper. also he put his light bar upside down that's why the lights were reversed. your set screws should be facing down so the flat of the angle is what your ramps sits on

It is an interesting idea, but like so many others have said the ramps, in their loaded position, simply hang to low. I think they could do with another set of holes so they would stay higher when driving. For many it would be a non issue with just driving on roads to get to a trail head. For some going a longer way off road to get to a cabin or somewhere more remote or possibly a lower truck it may be a problem. Thanks for the video.

Looking at this (excellent review by the way), I am wondering about the weight on the tongue/receiver? I thought there was normally a 500 pound limit? For a small quad, not as big of an issue, but for the side by sides, even the smaller ones, I am sure you are REALLY stretching the desired load for the hitch. Am I wrong on that?!?! Plus, what about lateral shifting of that bar? Either way, great review!

Maybe for short distance driving it would be ok , but it does hang down quite far and may cause problems coming out of or into gas stations or off road situations. Also seems would be a monster in high crosswind situations and light on the front tires in slick road conditions. The best part of this device is ease of loading and unloading. You have that HUGE back seat area in that type of truck to throw your luggage and baggage into . I vote for a trailer as well ! I didnt see any mention of price.

I think it looks cool going down the road especially while using the Trail Boss but they're litte to low and cumbersome for the little bit of space you gain. I suppose the atv in the bed with a roof rack would be a more compact way of having extra space.

Stephen makes good point about not being able use the backup camera when the tailgate is down. Maybe manufacturers should develop a backup camera that works with the tailgate down.
@WadeSmart3 жыл бұрын
Friend of mine has a aftermarket camera on his truck where he drilled a hole in the sky facing part of the tailgate, dropped in the camera, ran the wires up front and has two buttons to switch from tailgate up to tailgate down camera. He has a rubber piece that he puts in to keep crap from piling on top of the gatedown camera. Pretty interesting setup he created. Surely manufactures could create that with a simple touch switch when the gate is down.

I'd just prefer a 6.5ft or 8ft bed. These 5.5ft beds are just too short. They really do seem to be a smart design to help you maintain some useable space in the bed of the truck. Curios about how you get it tied down? The normal frame of both sides in front to tie downs on both sides of the bed is out of the question without causing the back tire to pull hard against the tail gate. It also might be a little low in the back on some trucks which could cause it to rub and I would think possible issues with front end float especially in a smaller truck depending on what is in the back.

Too heavy to take off and on. I had a pair and sold them because of the weight. Also need to get air shocks to raise back of truck.
@ExpeditionaryRanger3 жыл бұрын
Be good to mention pricing of course and also ensuring your truck has the appropriate tongue weight for this. For example, I don’t think a Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado, or Frontier could handle this due to limited tongue weight capacity and in such a light truck having the Center of gravity so far behind the rear axle. I assume the manufacturer had some table that show the relationship between atv weight and what the corresponding tongue weight would approximately be. They should to ensure people don’t be popping springs, etc. I think this is limited to half tons or higher, and probably atv/utvs is 1000 lbs or less. They could provide a look up table for owner confidence. I know some manufacturers of hitch carry motorcycle racks for example do, like the detail k2 carrier. Every machine had the c of g in a slightly different location but an approximation could be made.
@sylvain-paulcote54703 жыл бұрын
Actually, a half-ton is 1000lbs, that includes weight of driver, passengers and any other cargo. So legally, if you load a 1000lbs ATV in your truck, you can't sit in it and drive away. Look at the tag inside your door to see you true weight load capacity. So if you have an ATV, you might want to look at either buying a 1 ton or a trailer.
@Mixwell19833 жыл бұрын
@@sylvain-paulcote5470 you off on your numbers... 1/2 ton payloads are more than 1000 pounds.. Hell i think the payload in the 1/4 ton midsize pickups are at least 1600lbs.. A full size 1/2 ton is way more than capable of hauling an ATV dude. The reference to 1/2 ton and 1 ton dont literally translate to the payload weight from the terms.. It is best as you said to look at the sticker in the door jam to confirm payload capacity on that specific vehicle.
@sylvain-paulcote54703 жыл бұрын
@@Mixwell1983 I guess you're right! Doing a little search and new trucks called half-tons can have a payload of anywhere between 1500 to 3000lbs with heavy suspension! Ridiculous, but that's marketing for you! Great, now I can say I only weigh 150lbs and not 300! 😂😂😂

That is not the proper way to haul payload especially in a half ton truck. The weight is supposed to be over the rear tires, your handling and control are reduced. Less is more this is way to big complicated and bulky. Then there’s storage when not in use ....you can keep them, .
