You can write the book “Sri Lanka on $10 a day”. Amazing! These are the prices we used to find in Europe in the 1960s.

Haha, yes. I did the sums and we actually travelled in Sri Lanka for 7 weeks all up for $11 US each per day and we certainly didn't go without. It's an awesome place for budget travel. 😍

It's such an interesting country to explore. We loved it there. ❤️. Mandy and I travelled in India way back in 1996 after we first met in Nepal. We haven't been back since but it's time we went to see more. We loved the beaches of Kerala. ❤️

buses can't charge more than original price it is illegal, please make sure to secratly video those incidents and publish it and email to police of sri lanka, Cases like these are taken seriously in sri lanka . do it for the sake of 1000s of innocent tourists pay some time 1000 more for bus tickets.
@FrugalTravellers8 ай бұрын
Thanks for this. We noticed it a lot with the private buses in Sri Lanka. We preferred the red government buses which always gave you an official ticket which proves the price is correct. 👍🙏
@sadeeshagunathilaka50768 ай бұрын
@@FrugalTravellersThose red busses are really better than the private busses and also they are fair with the passengers. In private busses , we cant expect that . They are unfair with the locals as well. Enjoy your trip ❤

how do you both stay healthy in these countries? GREAT video and love how you embrace life. Well done.
@FrugalTravellers8 ай бұрын
Thank you, Sharon. 🙏. Sri Lanka probably has the healthiest food of any country we've ever been to. For 7 weeks we basically ate delicious, mostly vegetarian food with fresh vegetables and amazing fruit. No wonder the people there all look fit and healthy. 😍 Also because of the culture of eating with hands there, there is a big emphasis on hygiene so every small eating place has a sink and soap. So the first thing you do when you enter is wash your hands before you sit down. It's a lovely way to meet the other diners and chat around the watering hole. 😍

There are definitely some incredibly bargain prices to be had in Sri Lanka. ❤️. I understand about air con but the sea breeze was nice. 😍. To be honest this kind of stay wouldn't suit everyone. You need to be comfortable with sandy feet. 😁. Fun for a few days. 😊

Your videos have really inspired me to backpack around Sri Lanka on a budget. I will have 14000 rupees a day for my travelling. Would this be enough for accommodation and food, it seems like it would be plenty.

@@username-ii3nz Hello William, and thank you for your lovely comment. We made loads of Sri Lanka videos, and showed the prices of most things. We are innately frugal so could easily travel around on 14000 LKR, but it depends on the individual. Check out our Sri Lanka playlist for more prices and information 🤗🇱🇰: Sri Lanka Travel 🇱🇰: kzbin.info/aero/PLCmNbKU5iMrm1426S5ltprrISCZunP-BF

@@FrugalTravellers I'm also interested to learn what backpack Lee used, I know it's an Osprey backpack but what capacity was it? How was using this smaller backpack on buses and trains? Do you think a larger Osprey backpack (Mine is over 100 litres) would be too cumbersome for buses and trains? Did you find it easy washing your clothes while travelling for the 7 weeks. Also did you book accommodation ahead of time or spontaneously? I think your videos really shine bight on YT especially the Sri Lanka series. I booked my flight for 5th November and spending 26 days in Sri Lanka. Thank you Lee and Mandy.

@@username-ii3nz Some great questions, William, and I'm going to add them to the list for our next Q&A... and will also address them in the videos of my upcoming 3 weeks travelling in Thailand with my sister, who's new to being a frugal traveller 🤗🙌. Thank you for the lovely compliment as well. So, re: backpacks... we both have 40lt Osprey Farpoints... mine is always stuffed full, and Lee's is normally half empty 😁😂 I think 100lt would be too bulky to travel around easily, and really, you'll end up wearing the same 4 tops and 2 pairs of trousers the whole time. Re: washing clothes... it's easy and important to wash them every time you shower, as if you let them build up, it quickly becomes a pile of ickiness! We tend to buy a bar of clothes washing soap when we arrive in the country, and I prefer washing in a bucket, or the sink if there's a plug, as I like to soak the clothes for at least 10 minutes, and swishing it all around to get every part covered. That way the soap gets in and can remove the dirt without us needing to scrub too much. Re: accomodation... we try to be flexible, so often we look ahead at Booking dot com and screenshot a few likely places, mark them on Maps dot me, and then when we arrive we go and look at the first one and see what we think. That's our new modus operandi, as our rooms are very important for us as we spend a fair bit of time editing videos, and need things like good WiFi, natural lighting and power points.

Where do you store your valuables if stay at budget accommodations?
@FrugalTravellers8 ай бұрын
We always keep our most important valuables on us. Cash, cards etc. The rest is basic travel stuff that losing would be inconvenient but not the end of the world. We've never had anything stolen from a room in 30 years of travelling. Maybe we've been lucky. 🙏 Always trust your instincts when choosing somewhere to stay. 👍
