Please explain to me how I bred with a buck with a -0.39 and a doe with a -.0.04347 that produced a fawn with a -0.29 and that fawn was one of the first CWD positives on my farm.

I have to ask, will natural selection as infected diseased wild deer die off and the ones who seem to have antibodies survive. Will the wild population recover and CWD no longer be a problem? How can I tell if the deer I harvest does not have CWD?

I can’t see that happening with CWD. It’s not a virus, there are not antibodies. It’s a protein that builds up until the animal dies. Once a deer gets it, it’s just a matter of time until they die.

Ok, CWD is a prion disease so is 100% fatal no one can survive as of now of a prion disease. This disease is getting worse every day and It is highly contagious. There were only cases of the disease in North America but in 2016 theres been confirmed cases of CWD in Norway. You should test the meat of the deer before eating it as cooking meat doesn't kill prions and an example of this was the epidemic of Mad Cow Disease which was also a prion disease. Theres no signs that the disease can infect humans, but theres always the chance that it could infect us since theres been a test where mice were shown to be able to get CWD. Stay safe out there!

So CWD came from deer farms and now the deer farms are going to get insanely wealthy by breeding resistant deer to replace wild deer? This doesn't seem right.

It was first discovered in a government research farm where deer and scrapie positive sheep were both kept in the late 1960s. So if it did come from farms the people responsible are all likely dead or retired and did not come from private business anyway.
