I'm from Baltimore and I'm always in awe when I see other cultures love this show as much as I do. It's so visceral. It's not a show with a lot of unnecessary stuff. It does requires your patience and time. It can't be rushed. The city itself is a character, and is so real.

The wire is a well written tv show ! It covers almost every complexity of humans in their day to day life along with the portrayal of social problems in various institutions be it the education system,drug trafficking,prostitution,bureaucracy,politics,economics,street communities,police departments and press media. The best thing about the show is that it doesn’t have a specific main character instead it has so many that you’ll eventually forget at one point on which to consider a favourite one. Each character has the shades of grey just like anime. The wire is slow paced and takes time unfolding the script therefore it requires patience from the audience so if you are into fast paced shows like money heist,breaking bad etc. then you have to maybe consider watching the show without any expectation of cliffhangers.Last but not the least, i love the show because it is too real and that is why most people stop watching it however, i promise if you just watch it till the end with patience it’ll be worth it and still if it doesn’t even after the show ends then maybe it’s not your cup of tea.

Ideally "Breaking Bad", "The Wire" & "The Sopranos" shouldn't even be compared- cos all 3 are so great, but in different ways, that it's mostly pointless to do so. All 3 should be watched by anyone into TV shows, but which one ends up to be a person's favorite will mostly come down to personal preferences. 'The Wire' was the most realistic, had the most NUMBER of top tier characters , and hands down the best writing of the three. Heck, it's 3rd & 4th seasons are some of the greatest works of storytelling in any media that I've ever experienced. It also had the most important & ambitious themes, some of which have changed the way I look at the world- especially Govt & private institutions- forever. But it starts a bit slow, and its last season- though still good- was its most flawed. 'The Sopranos' had the best dynamics between its many core characters, but more importantly it was the show that STARTED the golden age of television- especially in terms of high quality drama shows with complex characters, incredible performances, weighty writing, mature themes, and let's not forget: antiheroes (Tony Soprano walked so that Walter White could fly). Unfortunately its 5th season was a bit of a slump, though it thankfully recovered and ended strongly in Season 6. 'Breaking Bad' had 2 of the greatest characters in TV history in terms of their depth, development & performances, AND the best final season of the 3. It's also the fastest paced (comparitively) & the most entertaining/crowd-pleasing of the bunch. But AFTER watching The Wire or The Sopranos if one were to watch Breaking Bad, you notice how though it's clearly good art & great fun to watch, it doesn't really have anything deep, or groundbreaking, or even important to say. But this isn't necessarily a FLAW: cos at the end of the day, all 3 are TV shows & not documentaries, and so don't necessarily HAVE to be anything more than great entertainment or art (and this is where some may disagree & the subjectiveness I mentioned in the beginning comes in). With that in mind, Breaking Bad's only REAL flaw is probably that so many of its peripheral characters are weakly written compared to the ones in The Wire or The Sopranos. Tl;dr: For my fellow Malayalis out there- Breaking Bad is Drishyam (new gen mass + class), The Wire is Vaanaprastham (pure class) & The Sopranos is Devasuram (classic mass + class).

Going to watch the series fully, as it is long overdue and many of my friends also suggested it. This is exactly how it panned out for breaking bad too and boy I'm glad I did that. I don't want to watch any other random series and watch only selective ones that hold good standard as this!!! To say the least, it actually ruined TV shows for me, in a good way. Also, watch it to know the hype. It took absolute patience sometimes. But it just showed how spoiled our society and system is and how it is very difficult to come out of it. You can only play along and can't do anything about it🤷🏻 No drama, only reality, in your face, shocking reality.

Just finished season 1 and it's such a banger, it's pretty much perfect with the only flaw if you call it a flaw is it being a little slow near the start but even then every episode slapped hard.
