Transitional is my personal style, with a preponderance of French Neoclassical furniture and design elements. The contemporary elements in my space are very "quiet" as are the walls and trim....like a museum backdrop.

I have been watching design videos for years. Since recently discovering you I have unsubscribed to others. Your taste is classicly interesting and you don’t spend half your time talking about yourself. Additionally your instructions are doable even if you don’t have a Mansion. Thank You 😘

I've always decorated in a transitional style. It's a style that is timeless and will save you a ton of money over time and frankly it's more comfortable to live in imo. I think that the color scheme one picks is really the key.

Yep, Transitional is my heart. Grew up with traditional and put my spin of it. Editing, editing and clearing up clutter. I do have more vibrant colors though. Southern Transitional!! Thx Lisa!

Yey!! I’m glad you did this video. I’m a transitional guy because I like modern and traditional elements and can’t always choose between them, and also because I live in a house that’s newly built (modern looking clean lines in windows, doors, counters, ceilings) but within a very traditional looking structure (brick and stone facade, traditional rooflines). It’s the best of both worlds. 💜

Thank you! I’ve transitioned my 1905 house from traditional to transitional. It’s much more in line with the warm minimalism that feels like me.

Very helpful! I have these antique dishes with some red and green tiny blossoms, gold trim, and cream/ eggshell color. I want them to be the focal point for the dining room, but I don’t want an overly formal space. It will be a good room for plants to bring out the green color. I don’t know how to incorporate the dishes in a way that they are a focal point, but the table doesn’t always have to be set. 🤔

Lisa´s videos are always so informative and so much fun. Every time I tend to start to favour the style she is talking about, apparently I like the Transitional style, who knew?!
@marylut607711 ай бұрын
@LisaHoltDesign, isn’t the fireplace, view, or other architectural feature the focal point, unless the room doesn’t have one then you resort to mirror, art, etc?

I came up in interior design, working for old-school designers who seemed to do transitional before it was a thing. But mostly traditional. I think their influence of the 60s and 70s helped. Lisa, I’m so glad you’re doing these videos. You are single-handedly combatting all the crappy design (or lack of any design, for that matter!) that’s out there. You break down the concepts in a way which makes people not only understand what Design is about but also excited about using what you teach us! By the way, I’m laughing because I liked the “hodgepodge ” at the beginning! 😊

This is a fantastic video resource. I consider my interior style to be eclectic - transitional. I enjoy colours and work them through my home using repetition. I incorporate contemporary and vintage furniture pieces within a space. Line and form unify a space and helps so much with proportion too.

I am definitely a big fan of transitional style. I have a question though about choosing one focal point in each space. What if you have one big open space for a dining room and seating area/open living room, how do you apply this particular rule?

I'm so glad I found you! So many are still pushing "the gray covid" look! I have a corner fireplace, half the wall is red brick, then a large real wood maple mantel, then plain wall-to-ceiling. The house was built in 2007, thus I have cathedral ceilings, but luckily lots of light real wood trim and floors too. I'm not crazy about the red brick, nor the color of the walls (a sickly light off-yellow). I am considering painting the wall a linen color, should the brick be painted also?

Hi Lisa I have always thought that I dislike Transitional & I also never thought I like Traditional but I did watch a you tube video last night of a wonderful beach house that I absolutely adored both inside & out with very few exceptions & I am wondering if it is transitional ? Or I would at least like to know what her style is

Please get rid of the annoying music. There's literally no reason why random music should be competing to be heard while you're talking. Add on the sound effects and this is just an assault on the ears.
These (4, 5, 6, or 7 😁) rules kill me. It"s the scale and proportion that really matter, the rest is up to your sensibility: colors, patterns, textures, art, wood, metals, and all that. Nothing worse than houses all looking the same and overstyled, so artificial. You're welcome.

Love this! Thanks for breaking it down🫶🏼 Wondering if you could do a video/ video series on the styles in all 3 Maine category, and let us know aboute designers who spesialises in each style. Off course designers do projects without their preferd style, but some hot tips on designers doing a style , ( sevral designers also have their furniture or/ and accessory line and often that is eighter trending pieces or their preferd style) better than other styles. You Get what i mean. Off course i know that you , as a designer, not should refer to other designers in your video ( thats what i hear…) but i think you are so established, that i feel your people would be faithfull to you. And i also think its good to cheer eachother on, and letting others know aboute other good designers and industry colleague☺️ And if you want, you could make a video on : - how to start your buisness. - exterior materials- whats oute there. Worldwide. How to get THE curbappeal. - landscaping and differences from country to country and continent to continent. - how to know who to trust in the industry. From builders to assistents - how to : from contact to contrackt to finish product, and how to end everything hand over to the client. A video snekpeak on the whole prosess - the differences designing private and commersial, or speck houses. Keep up the good job🫶🏼 🇳🇴Marit
