From an older man, your explanation on manipulating the thumb saftey was spot on. I thumb it off as soon as I clear the holster. People shouldn't fear 1911s/ 2011s because of the saftey.

Maybe. They shouldn't fear it, but they better be willing to put in the training reps if they haven't been carrying one for a while. It took me six months of daily work to be 100% subconsciously competent flipping it off every single time I drew the weapon.

Yes. Depending on what I’m doing, I’ll usually carry either an Sig 320, 365 XL, or a Colt LWC. The 365XL and the LWC thumb safety operates in the same manner. My 320 doesn’t have a safety, but I use the same draw for all my handguns. 7:58 My thumb is always high on the slide when I draw, and I easily slide it downward to take it off safety. I use the same position no matter whether there is a safety or not. One day I would love to own a double stack 1911A1, but they are out of reach right now.
@Justin7Wooden7 ай бұрын
Same from a “younger guy”. I’ve been carrying a 1911 style handgun for a long time. I mainly carry a P365 simply because of the size and capacity. Before I rotate between the 2 I get familiar with the thumb safety again but I’ve never had a problem with a 1911 style safety. If my handgun has to have a safety, I prefer it to be 1911 style

Everybody hates on Kimber, 😂 I own several and I have personally never had even one mechanical problem with my weapons. Perfect in every way. I do not own a KDS9C at the moment but I plan to change that. They're made in Alabama now so there is a good chance that the added Southern craftsmanship will add even more reliability to these beautiful 1911s.

Cohen did a number on their reputation in the few years he was CEO and cutting corners on the quality. Kimber's reputation before Cohen was golden, they were considered an absolute top quality maker. Post Cohen, they're still trying to get that reputation back. When Cohen was CEO, a Kimber that had problems was more common than one that ran well - no exaggeration. They've been quality again for years now, but it's hard to come back from the damage Cohen did to their reputation.

Thanks, nice review. I am not a fan of 3 dot sights and much prefer blacked-out rear sights. Over all it seems to be a lot of gun for the money. The Humble Marksman in his review of the gun said none of the internals were MIM. Two of the reviews have noted mounting screws stripping so that maybe of note. I did particularly enjoy watching your manner of draw and presentation. I have shot 1911s for decades with 3.5 pound triggers so light triggers are not an issue but they do require obtaining the proper feel to safely run them. I have owned Kimbers in the past, some good and some not so good. This one looks like it is going to be a winner if their QC is consistent.

I have the KDS9c and it worked well the first 100 rounds or more -- but after that, I've been having a lot of issues with failure to chamber, feed, and or failure to eject brass. It is definitely ammo brand finicky. Accuracy-wise, it's exceptional and that's with my tremors. My doctor/neurologist attributes that to the weight of the gun: the heavier the better. I will remove and tune the extractor because that is the most common failure. Hopefully, that remedies, at least, the extraction and possibly feed failures.
@frogmantactical7 ай бұрын
I’d suspect it would be ammo finicky as tight as it is. It’s going to like the better most common brands I’d assume.

I am envious of your Kimber. I just bought the same gun and it simply does not work. More than 50% of the rounds got stuck feeding into the chamber and jammed the gun. The gun simply does not feed from either of the magazines provided. thinking it might be the ammo I put several different brands through the gun. All brands had the same jam. Both magazines were fairly loose so maybe the mags are bad. I do not know the cause, but I do know I spent a lot of money to have a gun that simply does not work. This is probably the worst gun I have ever purchased. Really makes me sorry I bought a Kimber. I watched a lot for reviews and never say this issue, but while I was at the range some random dude walked up, said he just bought one (he had it there), and said he had the same problem. Really makes me wonder about the integrity of the gun reviews. How can all the review say the gun is great when two random guys at a range on a Friday afternoon, both with new Kimbers, have the same problem and not a single review caught this issue.
@frogmantactical7 ай бұрын
You can see the results on the videos of us shooting. What we find is most issues come from shooter error. 1911’s are very finicky and need to be stabilized as much as possible due to tight tolerances. If your grip isn’t what it needs to be or as you said possibly certain ammo which is extremely common, you will have the same issues. Now I don’t agree with that being ok. A firearm should fire, period. First issue when troubleshooting is always shooter error and because most don’t understand certain aspects of a 1911, the only place to turn is the gun or ammo. Send it this way and we will put it on video and see if it’s the gun or shooter error. Send an email to frogmantactics@gmail.com

From my perspective as a long-time 1911 shooter (since the 50's) I don't think I would care to have one without the grip safety. All my 1911's are highly tuned, very light trigger. Occasionally, the pistols with ambi safeties will get bumped to off safe. With a really light trigger that's real bad... As to.the sight issue, I typically point shoot and have been running 1911's so long I get baseball size groups at 25 yds or less just from muscle memory. I'm sure you can do the same with your favorite piece. A double stack might be handy, though. Even though I'm very confident about putting a threat down at a reasonable range, engaging multiple threats that are moving with cover added mag capacity would be nice. I do count my rounds and practice mag drops at 8rnds (8+1) edc. That way I never have an empty firearm, and font have to take the time to run the slide unless I have a malfunction and need to taprackabang. As I said, my guns are highly tuned, and I have a malfunction very, very seldom. By the way, you can hit a man size steel in the chest at 100yds by aiming 10 inches over the head with a .45acp lol.

Edit- In my state (Illinois) allows "reasonable concealment." Meaning you can actually have the grip of the pistol readily available. Meaning you can have your pistol sticking out of your waistband, legally. But it also means you're going to be confronted by police at some point because someone will freakout when they see the pistols under your shirt.
