The Antarctic ocean is a very strange and unique place - that's because it's isolated from the other oceans by what is essentially a giant circular river called the Antarctic Circumpolar Current.

What's sorta the geography of one piece? I'm seeing people bring it up with calm belt, all blue, and grandline. But like what are all those things really? Like just separate oceans despite looking like it would be a whole ocean?
@chaotixthefox
@chaotixthefox 3 ай бұрын
@@day7163 So we're going to fill in details bit by bit. First we have a big ball of ocean. There is a large band of landmass that runs around the whole thing, it's offset from the north-south axis 45 degrees to the left, that's the Red Line. Perpendicular to the Red Line, runs a strip of sea called the Grand Line, and it also circles the globe, there is a huge submerged opening in the Red Line that connects both halves of the Grand Line. So now, you should notice the Grand Line and Red Line form an X shape that divides the waters of the world. This division gives rise to the four seas: North Blue, South Blue, East Blue, and West Blue. The reason the Grand Line is separate from the blues is because on either side of it there is a thin strip of dead calm water, the Calm Belt.
@day7163
@day7163 3 ай бұрын
@@chaotixthefox Thanks for the explanation. It's pretty clear and I get the comparison now. Btw you've already helped but what do you mean by submerged opening? Like a giant hole where the red line and the grand line meet that extends to the other side of the world?
@chaotixthefox
@chaotixthefox 3 ай бұрын
@@day7163 At one of the points where the Red Line and Grand Line meet is a rather large gap in the Red Line deep below the surface of the sea, it goes all the way from one side of the Red Line to the other. That is how non-government affiliated ships pass from one half of the Grand Line to the other(there is some special stuff involved to allow the ships to travel underwater for this).
