I like the fact that Berwick upon Tweed was still officially fighting the Crimean war 100 years later as was left of the peace treaty.

Berwick is a good base for exploring Borders County and I've spoken to locals there who gave me the same impression as this gentleman. However, I'm very curious to know what is the strength of support for independence in the Borders.

They have in old Berwickshire county Conservative MP’s used to be LibDems . The thing is people who live and work cross the border everyday that stay down that way that they don’t see a border as such especially when it’s the United Kingdom. So it’s invisible to them.

@@williamlong7188 yep, there are big disparities in wealth between towns and country and occupations. The average GRP per capita of all southern Scotland is Scotland’s lowest. Which is ironic to me

The local flag is the county flag of the English county Northumberland. The two international footballers that came from Berwick upon Tweed, Trevor Steven amd Lucy Bronze both played/play for England. Whether the border should be relocated should be for the residents of Berwick alone.

Absolutely correct, but it was entirely stolen when they had no choice at all

Well considering Berwick was initially part of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria, including much of south eastern Scotland, I'd say it was the Scots who initially stole it.

Do people speak with a Scots accent in Berwick upon Tweed?
@travellingbairns Жыл бұрын
A mix of both 😄
@JohnResalb Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's what I found as well. I spoke also to locals who commute by local bus after work back home to local towns in Scotland, and Borders Buses have day or weekly tickets which enable you to go here, there, and everywhere, on BOTH sides of the border, in fact right up to Edinburgh. Within Edinburgh itself, is a separate outfit, and they also have their own ticket packages.
