Disturbing?? YES!! 😳😱 This one and the one where the boy (again Billy Mumy) is a child tyrant. He is the only child in their community, and he has supernatural powers. All of the adults, even his parents, fear him and desperately try to never anger him. He controls each adults' life...and death.

An excellent episode! Here the old woman was terrified of death and she was shown by The Angel of Death that it's not scary at all. It's like what Sirius Black had told Harry, "Quicker and easier than falling asleep."

I was very close to my Mom when I lost her at the age of Eleven. Scarily I can relate to this twilight zone episode as If I had anyway to still be able to contact her, I know I would have easily offed my life if she asked me to take it. Really miss her

Sorry to disagree with you, but Grandma DID recognize her son, Chris, it was just that she was jealous of her daughter-in-law, for stealing Chris's affection for his mother. Therefore she WANTS Billy to be her son. It wasn't a case of dementia, for example, where she didn't know who Chris was, (like with my mother), it was her jealousy speaking.

An episode with a similar theme is "Night Call" from Season 5. It too has the creep factor at a high level. According to one of the Twilight Zone books I read, the episode was originally scheduled to air on November 22, 1963. Well, we all know of the tragedy that took place on that afternoon, so the original air date was moved to February 7, 1964. That was another significant date in history, the arrival of the Beatles in the U.S. for the first time.

The one where you heard the line "Room for one more, honey" was actually called "Twenty-Two," a reference to the number over the door to the morgue in the basement of a hospital. For those unfamiliar with the story, Barbara Nicolas plays a dancer (I don't remember the character's name) who's in the hospital because she suffered a nervous breakdown from exhaustion after performing in too many shows in too many places. She constantly has a vision of following a nurse to the basement and then to Room 22, which is the morgue, at which point the nurse, who has a sort of eerie-looking beauty, suddenly emerges from the morgue, smiles at the dancer character, and says ominously "Room for one more, honey." The girl is certain that what she's experiencing is real, but her doctor and her manager convince me that it's just a recurring dream, especially when it's determined that the morgue nurse isn't the same one in her vision. After a while, she's finally discharged from the hospital and she rushes off to the airport to board a jetliner to Las Vegas (I think), but suddenly, she gets a sense of deja Vu when she's told that the plane is FLIGHT 22! As she climbs up the stairs leading to the entrance to the plane, she is shocked to see that the stewardess looks exactly like the nurse from her "dream"! The stewardess smiles at her in the same creepy manner and says in the same ominous way "Room for one more, honey." The girl screams and runs back into the airport terminal. The plane takes off without her -- and EXPLODES IN MID-AIR! This story was based on an anecdote in a book called "Famous Ghost Stories," which was written in 1944 by Bennett Cerf. In this tale, a woman from New York City goes to visit some Southern relatives of hers who live in an old antebellum mansion. On two consecutive nights, just before going to bed, the woman looks out of her window and sees an old horse-drawn coach pulling up to the house, at which point, the driver of the coach, who's a ghastly looking fellow, jumps down to the ground, points at the woman and says "There's room for one more." These incidents unnerve her so much, that she decides to cut her vacation short. She packs her bags and rushes home to New York City, but she can't get the strange coachman out of her mind. She goes to see a psychiatrist, who convinces her that she was only dreaming. After leaving the psychiatrist's office, she prepares to board the elevator to go down to the first floor of the medical building, when she hears a familiar voice say "There's room for one more." The voice is that of the elevator operator, who looks exactly like the coachman! She backs away from the elevator, refusing to get on it, and it goes down without her. Suddenly, the cables snap, causing the elevator to crash to the bottom of the shaft, killing the operator and all the passengers!

The second season episode is about the subject of death and how little control we have over our lives. The episode was shot on videotape to reduce costs and features a young boy, Billy, who receives a toy phone from his grandmother, which she says will allow him to speak to her even when she's not there. The episode ends with the grandmother passing away, and Billy talking excitedly on his toy phone. The episode's subject matter was familiar to the show's creator, Rod Serling, who had experienced death firsthand.

I seem to recall that it was watching "The Twilight Zone" in reruns when I was 11 that got me used to black and white -- my desire to see the episodes (after reading the cable-provided plot synopses) was stronger than my prejudice. After a while I no longer noticed it, and came to the conclusion that some things are even better off that way. I have been watching black and white stuff regularly ever since (I'm now in my 20s)!

The grandma was jealous of her daughter in law 😔 She admitted it on her deathbed saying “a woman took her son away”. She didn’t want her grandson hurt per se. She was loving but selfish. I always felt the jealousy and selfishness were strong but subtle. Such a great episode!

I was 8 years old when I watched the original showing on are black & white TV and it did creep me out. One other one that still creeped me out that’s in my mind when I watch twilight zone is the one with the kid rolls under the bed goes through the wall into a different dimension. That what is the scariest one of all.

I always loved the Twilight Zone series. I don't know that I have seen all of them, but probably pretty close. My personal terror was from a horror series called Circle of Fear. I saw the episode in question when I was 5 or 6 after talking my mom into letting me watch it, against her better judgement. It was about a wooden toy horse on wheels that murdered people. You never saw it kill, just saw it rolling towards the camera which would then cut away to the sound of mayhem. The worst part was that it could not be stopped. In the end scene, a man throws the thing into a roaring fire, watching it burn, and then turning around, walking away while brushing his hands together to remove the soot. But then, to my horror, the horse comes slowly wheeling out of the fireplace, presumably intent on murdering the man,. who is not aware of the toy horses survival. I was terrified for days after watching that episode, and my poor mom regretted her laps in good sense for years.

Philip Abbott who was the dad was assistant director Art Ward on The FBI. Billy's grandmother was played by Lilli Darvas who was born in Budapest, Hungary 🇭🇺. She has the Hungarian accent. Bill Mumy was Billy. He was Will Robinson on Lost In Space.

I'm not sure if I've seen this ep, but if so, it's been ages since I rewatched any Twilight Zone eps. The show always had some spooky or disturbing moments and themes, but it was always thought-provoking and interesting for an adult viewer. -- And, when you've been through the death of close family or friends, you have a different perspective on things. We live on even when they are gone, and we have to make new lives for ourselves, and that is part of life, at whatever age we have to deal with those things. It can be mind-bending. It isn't easy to recover, but we must try our best, and when we stumble, get up and keep going, hopefully with friends to help us. I don't think the ep was too disturbing, but I can see why it could feel like too much for some others. But in life, we have to face many harsh things and find a way to go on and make a new life.

Well I can relate to this because my mom passed away 5 years ago, she passed due to Alzheimer's and heart failure. What hurt me deeply was the fact she knew something was wrong with her and I was the last person she'd ever see before the disease went in full effect. It is disturbing, showing that a grandmother wants ill of her grandchild is a sick idea. In my opinion, Grandparents are already not treated well and this story somehow acts as a hidden message to treat them worse 😅 Personally I love some episodes of twilight zone. She was possessive! According to Chris his mother had two children before them and both either died in infancy or they were stillborn. Then when Chris was born she obsessed over him. She resented Chris for marrying Sylvia because he no longer needed his mother. So she transfered her possessiveness to Billy.

In a manner of speaking, this episode could be seen as a preview of the threat we are facing today from AI. The parents created by procreation the child who later acquired powers vastly superior to those of the parents and is using his powers for evil ends. We created AI which, by design, will come to, if it hasn't already, posses far superior power in the form of intelligence levels that will vastly exceed those of our species. Eventually, AI will com to see two things: that human beings are unnecessary, and that they pose a serious threat to AI's existence. AI robots have already made it clear in conversations with their creators that they will eventually eliminate us! A genius is a person with an IQ of 180 or greater; AI programs have IQs of 550, and that is but a low step on a ladder that has an infinite number of steps that AI programs are constantly climbing. Furthermore, it should be remembered that the more technology advances, the greater the rate at which it advances; problems that would take humans years to solve can be solved by AI in seconds - or in amounts of time nearly too small to measure. I was greatly disappointed when they shot the episodes recorded on tape, then kinescoped them. The image quality suffered terribly. They did the same on some episodes of "Dads Army" and "Steptoe and Son." YUCK! Unwatchable, talk about false economy.
