Superb find Paul, to source a MK1 in such great condition. I had a 1971, LWB twin wheel crew bus, V4 automatic back in 1984. It had a new MOT, I wanted to covert it into a camper. When I removed the rear rubber mat, both wheel archs came with it. I blew my entire van build budget having them replaced. I soon leaned to weld and do my own repairs there after. Have you considered converting the V6 to run on LPG / autogas?Supplies will always be available to service the motorhome leisure market. Good luck with the build. I'm following up with interest. 😂

I knew two crazy kids who stuck a V6 in a tranny over a week including welding on a bullnose front. Still had the 2.0 ltr rear axle. Absolutely flew.

Hi Paul, I think you’ve found a decent van and a great project, I’ve had every mark of the Transit, I’ve just updated to the new custom and I can see a few little design ques from the mk1, I’ll be following the progress of the Resto good luck with it.

Watch the chase in the 1974 film 11 Harrow House with Charles grodin in the film they use a lwb mk1 V6 as there getaway being chased by two s type jags smashing in to the van, And how I know its V6 because it bull nose and at the end of chase it turns over seeing the twin down pipes

Worked at a Ford dealership in the 90s boss asked to restore the old V6 petrol recovery truck version of this.. Wish it had of been a diesel version. Newbie mech brought it back to life.. But the mpg made it non cost effective and was parked up again after the newbie bringing it back to life

You do associte the Mk1 bull noise with a diesel engine. I think the Isuzu is a reliable period upgrade!
@jimmysmith45475 ай бұрын
You are right I always associate the bullnose Mk1 with a diesel engine
@carllockpick6179 Жыл бұрын
Would the original engine been a Perkins 4108 ?
@unconventionalideas5683 Жыл бұрын
Some had a Perkins, but many had York diesels.
@dungareesareforfools10 ай бұрын
@unconventionalideas5683 yeah this looks like a later example, so probably the York.

Nice van, incredible survivor underneath. Do you still work with Drew? I have a BMW E30 M3 in front of me at the moment and it's a long story, the car was stripped by a mechanic who then passed away and it was handed back in bits, dash and windscreen out. It could be for sale, it's straight and has a good original S14 engine and dog leg box and it's pretty solid but it's making my friend, the owner, ill with the thought of trying to put it all back together. I know this cars history going back decades and I know it's a good motor but I thought it might interest the serious restoration guys like yourself. Paul

We used the as Dumpers on sites back in the 70's .... They were Brilliant for PUSHING all those heavy Old Two-Barrow diesel mixers around those Muddy Old sites that couldn't afford a forklift - and for lugging around bags of cement & plaster that were usually unloaded by hand - 16 ton at a time - onto ONE point on a site ... the old twin-wheel transit always came up TRUMPS 😂😂

Very shabby, you can get these in far better condition in Norway or Germany, ex civil defence, or fire brigade
