Is this the oldest town in JAPAN?? 🇯🇵 / TAKAYAMA - Little Kyoto

After six days getting over jet lag in Tokyo we headed by shinkansen to Takayama in Gifu prefecture ( One of the oldest towns in Japan ).
We ate Eki Ben on the bullet train, visited a historic town, ate soba in a well known restaurant and had Warabi Mochi by the river.
We spent 3 days exploring this little gem and soaked in the architecture of the Edo period.

Originally from the Wirral, North West England we got married in 2012. After a few trips abroad we caught the #travel bug. In 2019 after 6 weeks in Japan we decided we were going to quit our jobs and take some time out to travel full time. After many delays due to the pandemic, in 2021 our dream finally came true and in November we set off on our journey.

Thank you for the kind words. Every food we have tried in Japan has been delicious. The only food Andrew did not like was Natto. He had Natto soup in Yamagata and it was delicious 😋

Takayama is one of my favorite places in Japan! I’m going there for a second time in May and I can’t wait to visit Hida no Sato again! First time was in 2015 and since then I’ve always wanted to revisit!

My son and I have done the Golden Triangle, so this year we’re hitting Takayama! My question is, how credit card (Suica/Master Card) friendly is Takayama compared to the Golden Triangle? We obviously will carry Yen, but want to use it wisely and save it for street vendors and the like! Good job on your vlog avoiding “cheekyness”!

Alot of places still only accepted cash. I think a fair few of the bigger establishments accepted card though. We hope you have an amazing time in Takayama. It is a beautiful little old town 😁

You can get warabi mochi from supermarkets for 100yen. Its pretty good too. Taste even better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

unfortunately we cannot remember the name of the store however it was right next to Miyagawa morning markets along the river. It is very close to Sanmachi Suji. if you walk along the river they had a stand outside with the warabi mochi on display. :)
