I have the 1st version of the 7ltr and 10ltr bag - I love them! The basic bag is great but the modular attachments are really useful for organising my gear and making sure I only go out with the gear I want. The configuration of pockets, straps and the front through put 'pocket' are also useful for sticking a walking pole, rain jacket in if needed. They are lovely light, robust and flexible bags - the tight elastic does ease in use. I think you may have prefered the 1st versions of the bags. I thought I was fussy but am glad to find someone whos even worse!

I’m a very happy left-handed owner of the Wotancraft 7l - easily my favorite camera bag. Why? I love that it’s not structured, so it forms around my body. I put a water bottle and my sunglasses in the two side pockets. The front pocket is fantastically roomy. I can fit my Sony a7iv with two or three lenses. The slim pocket in the back fits my iPad, if I need to bring it along. The strap is easy to adjust to make carry-able for all day, and I like that the ends rotate, so you can easily untwist it. My only issue: it could be more waterproof

Less is best for me. I carry a minimal amount of gear when I go out. I have the 3.5L which is perfect for my Leica Q2M, charger, Peak design, wrist and leash straps, spare battery, spare SD card and a 4 filter pouch. What more do I need? Love the fastener system. Gone are the days with as a Photographer friend of mine says, their insecurity bag packing way more than they need, but just in case. Another famous photographer says Liberation through limitations. Shooting Monochrom only changes everything. I give the 3.5L 4.5 stars! No bag is perfect for everyone, but this one frees me up to have it all in a compact bag.

@MulliganAl3 ай бұрын
I've realized that the 'perfect camera bag' depends (for me at least) on what I'm carrying that day, on where I'm going, and on what I plan to shoot which is why I have a Wotancraft 2L, 3.5L, and 7L (since sold). One day I many only want to take my Leica and/or X100VI so the 2L and 3.5L are great, other days I may want to take my Sony a7RV so the 7L is great. So you're so right, there is no 'perfect camera bag', only perfect camera bags for given times and shooting situations.

I own the 7L and don’t totally agree with your view. I think the bag is designed deliberately to deter pick pockets. The tight end pockets, tight front pockets and excess cloth as you put it on the flaps are all designed as security features. In saying all that i admire your honesty. Finally i am off to Europe in a few weeks and i will be taking my 15 year old Hadley Pro 😊

I own this 7L bag and I love it! The best feature, in my opinion, is the clasp with the flip-up lid. I can open it one handed and pull out my camera in a second, without even thinking about it. I have had the bag for about a year, and the elastic loosens up nicely, as does the flexibility of the bag. I typically carry an A7RV, with a Sony 20-70 and a Sony 70-200 F4 Macro G II. I will sometimes swap out the Sony 70-200 for the Sony 100-400 GM. The Sony 100-400 is a stretch, not in room and weight, but does squeeze under the clasped lid. I often stick a 1.4x TC in one of the side pockets and a blower and ND filters in the other. Behind one mesh pocket in the front compartment, I carry a Sony remote and batteries. I carry a flashlight and card case behind the other. I carry cleaning cloths, and any small tools, like Allen wrenches in the main front compartment. By extra clothing, I assume you mean a jacket. My fleece jacket will fish through the opening behind the front flap and I am 6’-5”, meaning my jacket is not small. I have carried a 14 GM, 16-35 GM, and 20-70 GM along with the A7RV in the bag, before, in which case, the stiff folding divider came in very handy in making a shelf to stack two lenses. Here are the things I wish Wotencraft would improve: 1) bigger side pockets, 2) the accessory pouch seems to fit too high or too low when snapped onto the bag. It’s serviceable, but could be better. They should also build the loops on the accessory bag wide enough to slip a belt through it, which would give me a choice of carrying it on the bag or on my hip. I sometime will put wipes, Kleenex, ND filters,in a pouch and carry water.

I have the brown version of the 7 litre. I can see inside better than the black. That was the main reason for not going for black, apart from every other bag I own seems to be black. I took this on my trip to Japan in 2023. I didn't notice the strap adjuster digging into me at all. For me one of the most important things was it kept my camera equipment carry to a minimum, plus on the plane had room for my iPad and headphones. For a trip with one camera (OM Systems OM-5) and one lens (12-45mm PRO) the bag was ideal. Plus I don't feel it is an obvious camera bag. But the dividers are definitely odd. On that I agree with you completely. They collapse far too easily.

Fidlock is a company from Hannover, Germany. They make very need magnetic products. I love their magnatic bottle holder for bikes. But they have a interessing mobile phone holder system and as seen they developed different kind of buckles, like the one on the Wotancraft Bag. So Wontancraft is just using thier Product. If there is a another version opening to the other side, I don't know. I think the company is quite inventive. And I love their buckle of my bike helmet which I can close with one hand. Thank you so much for your honest product test. I helps me a lot!

I have the Wotancraft Pilot 2L, 3.5L and had the 7L Pilot bag in khaki (sold it). I loved many features on the 7L, but as you mention the side pockets are somewhat useless if they were intended to carry a water bottle so I used them for other items. I just stopped trying to use the side pockets for a water bottle, they're just way too tight (I could easily strap a water bottle to the bottom though), but the inside of the 7L is surprisingly spacious and well designed. I also like being able to attach the accessories pouches on the outside, and I like that it doesn't really look like a camera bag since we travel a lot and I don't want anything that screams 'camera bag'. I can't understand why all bag manufacturers don't add a zippered pocket on the back, it's essential to me for my passport and wallet so I won't buy a bag without one. I was looking at the Billingham Hadley Pro small (the larger Pro version is just too large), and it's a beautiful bag, but it doesn't offer many of the advantages of the 7L Wotancraft bag at over $100 more. I'm thinking I may buy the 7L again in black this time for travel, it really is a nice bag and will fit my Sony a7rv w/24-70mm, my Leica m11p with a few lenses, and my iPad 11" nicely. And it's really pretty comfortable for all day walking and hiking which is one of the most important factors for me. Thanks for your review, it steered me away from the Billingham and back to the Wotancraft. It really was one of the nicest camera bags on the market 'of its size' that I'd ever owned, it has a few minor faults but most that you mention are not a huge deal for me, and minor flaws are the case with just about every camera bag I've ever seen or used.

In my opinion, if you looking for an EDC camera bag where you want to put your snacks or goggles or keys along with camera and a couple of lens , i think it should not be a sling bag but a proper small sized backpack from which a camera can be accessed by side zip. these bag seem cool but aren't that practical. it will come in the way when you bending down while taking shots. your mind will get distracted by it. a bag which is behind you and snugs you properly will not come in the way unless you try to lay down on your back. the weight of the bag will be nicely distributed too on the shoulders.
@stevebarnett50484 ай бұрын
I agree with everything you say about it as I also have the 7l. It’s a great design poorly implemented, everything is so tight, to the extent that I had a roll of film in one of the internal mesh pockets and I couldn’t get my fingers into the pocket deep enough to reach the cassette with anything else in the bag. The end pockets crush a bottle of water, and the main flap isn’t long enough if the bag is fully loaded. It’s kind of like they’ve economised on a premium price bag down to the last half-penny of material.

"Camera bag"? Any bag can be your camera bag. My favorite: Normal backpacks or shoulder bags because they are not as bulky as bags sold as "camera" bags (and cheaper, too). For protection just wrap your lenses into a sweater or whatever clothing you will need to carry along anyhow. In "camera bags" there is never enough space for all the things you need on a walk, they probably assume people want to carry two bags.

Would I buy this bag again? no ... but I also understand that nothing is perfect and for it being just one of my three bags I use...it's fine

For photo bags, I prefer a more suitcase-like design with variable dividers (Velcro) and fasteners that can be operated with one hand. Even when not locked, the lid should extend far enough over the bag to protect the contents. And very importantly, the bag should stand securely on the floor regardless of its contents and not collapse.

The answer to your video question. A big flat out NO. I looked at this bag and the quality of the bag is poor. It’s rough and stiff. The dividers are appalling and feel they would scratch gear more than protecting it. Even if I was given this bag for free I would avoid using it. The pictures give it a look of soft but rugged weathered look. Quite the opposite. Oh, it’s stupidly, no absurdly expensive for what it delivers.

Some good points but I don't get your issue with the small bag at 11:15. They show you how to wear it on their site, but you intentionally wear it backwards and then wonder why the zipper is blocked by the straps? There's no reason that a small accessory pocket needs to go in the front. Many bags have one in the back. Sometimes for security, other times for aesthetic. This case is the latter.

I have lot of camera bags, as do most of us I’m sure. I just got the Pilot 3.5L and I must say I was disappointed- mainly because of the lack of padding on the bottom of the bag. I have Billingham Leica M System and Hadley Pro 2020 and both have way more padding especially the M System bag. After hearing so much about it from KZbin reviewers of the Pilot bags I am shocked none mention the lack of padding.

I am still looking for the perfect bag That one is too small for me. Right now I am using the Lowe Pro Nova 200. Two cameras (Sony a6600 & 6700) with lenses attached plus 2 or 3 extra lenses and a speedlight. It has a divider for a tablet. a roomy pocket at each end a nice front pocket and a documents pocket on the back. It is just missing a tripod holder for when I am in transit on my scooter but I can live with that. In reality if I wanted to get another 3 lenses in it I can but then it is getting too heavy to carry on my shoulder. When walking around with camera in hand you need to have it front side in so the lid opens out. Still it was bloody good value for money.
