I have a theory on the end of Life that Calvin was about to reproduce. Inside the capsule, it looks like Gyllenhaal is actually trapped within a cocoon of sorts. It doesn't look like Calvin but rather a sort of chitinous web holding him. Did Calvin leave Gyllenhaal alive to be a host or for sustenance for new Calvin's being produced? If this were true, for me it adds another level of dread and horror. The "Calvin vs other creatures" segment was awesome!
@kylemcw83012 күн бұрын
That’s a good way of looking at it. Upon first viewing, I just assumed Calvin had taken a “preservation state” to ensure its “Entry” into earths orbit. But. Now you say this, I think you may be more accurate than what I assumed! Well played! 👌🏻 That’s actually a pretty nasty outcome, that I actually feel could be expanded on!
@20TonChop2 күн бұрын
My take on the ending and Jake still being alive is this. Cal kept Jake alive so when the rescue people came to help they would see Jake struggling and open the pod to save him. Tricking them into releaseing Cal so he could feed on them and inturn the rest of Earth. He covered Jakes mouth so he couldnt tell them not to open the pod. So devious and smart.
@deustauries2 күн бұрын
@@kylemcw8301it could also be that Calvin was going through a change. He adapted to the zero gravity space station. So now that he is an environment with gravity, he is going through another form of evolutionary adaptation.

@@deustauries yes, also possible Calvin was in a chrysalis and changing. What’s interesting about this movie, is how it corresponds with real life facts about Mars. Mars is a wasteland but we have found that it’s completely covered in radiation. There are also evidence of what looks like structures on the planet. There is a theory that maybe there was a civilization on Mars but they destroyed themselves through war. This movie piggybacks on this IMO and fills the gap. It’s not that they were trying to kill each other. They were trying to kill Calvin.

Calvin is a fucking menace, everyone loves to glaze aliens or predators but Calvin really is the true ultimate preditory organism.
@tonts5329Күн бұрын
I think the Yuatja were sold short, they're extremely advanced technologically. Each one carries a self-destruct device when they go out on a hunt, that seems capable of completly obliterating any trace of biological life around them. They are also a space-faring species so Calvin can be stopped by this species. They just destroy him from orbit if he's too big of a threat to face as they traditionally would. Just blast him from space with plasma weaponry. If they encounter him when he's small their shoulder-mounted plasma cannons have a high chance of obliterating him, those are magnitudes hotter than what Calvin was exposed to with the flamethrower. I think the Blob could also be an effective counter to Calvin, given it dissolves and absorbs any biomass to make more of itself. Its only weakness seems to be the Cold though, maybe fire as it did plug up that one flamethrower quickly and Calvin being smart as he is could maybe exploit that. But that also depends on the Blob's size and honestly we wouldn't want either of these monsters getting bigger. (Kinda cheating with the Blob as it is originally from Earth, but the older one was fully alien so it seemed appropriate.) In general though, Calvin can take on a lot of alien horror monsters. They're intended to terrify and hunt humans, rarely each other.

The calvin alien does not evolve, it grows. As described in the movie, its cells are all capable of all the tasks . every cell is a brain muscle and other cells, it does not need to switch between these, its all at once. There is no need for it to evolve, adaptations like limbs are formed consciously to suit the requirements of the environment it is in. If it were to split in two it would count as procreation mitosis on macro scale. The suggestion in the movie is that the creature either lived on or was deposited on mars, ended life there and died out. Any single cell of the creature is sufficient to restart its life cycle, and all it needs is nutrients and an electrical current to restart in a desiccated state. When in the movie it has landed on earth it is keeping the human alive, as a lunchbox, changing environmental conditions give it pause. in theory once it finds the waters of earth it could split up into individual cells and spread out to consume in all directions. A second movie would only ever be a cop out, humans " find a way" to beat it, nah, unless they nuked the site where it landed the moment it did its game over. Anything that could be done to kill it would kill all life on earth including humans. So a second movie would either be a BS story about humans winning or just a constant onslaught of this creature spreading all over the globe and consuming everything.
