Back in Valiquette's days, the Forsberg move was a novelty kind of like the Michigan was in more recent times. If you recall, for comparison, early attempts at the (rarer) Michigan move were sometimes met with criticism and accusations of disrespect. Now, we are quite used to seeing the "Forsberg deke", but Steve apparently hasn't left the 90s, and perhaps he let a few too many of those in.

Plenty for the Rags to be embarrassed about. The breakaway was the one save Igor actually made on Hughes. But I wouldn't expect Steve Valiquette to have any sense of irony. BTW that breakaway was so clean, Hughes could have stopped and just stickhandled in front of the net for 3 more seconds before the Rag defense caught up. He could have done the fing Kuznetzov super-slo-mo shootout move and then, if he scored on that, skate away doing the double arm flap. Like an eagle. Not disrespectful at all.

I know where the guys coming from but it’s still a pretty brain dead take. @xpindy6 күн бұрын
When you're playing "ass" you should ALWAYS be looking for things to get mad/motivated about. As a goalie he saw this as an obvious one- team has no heartbeat.
@sneakmore5 күн бұрын
@ okay but if you’re a goalie and you’re mad that the other team is taking every shot at you while laying down just for shits n gigs than i think maybe just maybe you’re better off venting on the defence not the other teams shot choice. This however is being mad that the opposing team had a flubbed breakaway and claimed it was “disrespectful” because it was a low effort. Okay, but… the team that is losing is wiffing at the puck even if you’re saying its just passion and care for the game than its still completely misguided like being mad that chocolate cake can have vanilla frosting. Vally is a talking head and a Rangers homer. So I dont really take anything he says seriously. But if you're going to say that the Rangers should've did something to Hughes because he did this (which in itself is ridiculous) shouldn't that have been the majority of his complaint? Like it was 90 percent bashing Hughes and then the other 10 percent was just ribbing the Rangers about not going after him. Considering he's a Rangers analyst, he should've said "How do you let Hughes do that and not go after him"..and then go on to bash Trouba and Fox etc about being soft and letting your biggest rival come into your building and run circles around you. He's moronic. And a hypocrite too considering countless Rangers (and other teams players) have done this over the years and not a peep from him. I wonder if he ever saw what Kucherov does on breakaways.
