Its like a London borough, same size and very mixed. The other thing is the council actually own the airport, and looking to expand it, to bring in 1.5bn a year. There is also an initiative called Luton rising, which is worth a read, as outlines the future of investment coming into Luton.

Yes, people have moved to Luton from London. Unfortunately, not because they wanted to, it's because they couldn't afford the rent and were forced out against their will. Very sad for them.

No it's not only cos they couldn't afford the rent, it's also that they can get on the property ladder. There are also new builds by the airport train station, which londoners are buying, so they can commute into London. House prices are cheaper than London, but still quite expensive.

I was born in that pub ( George the 2nd) behind the first interview in 1967. Can remember it being a nice safe place to live in. It was always busy with people from all ethnic backgrounds.

As someone who moved to Luton from London to get on the property ladder, it has its pros and cons like anywhere else. Pros: Cheaper housing, ok job market (for professionals and the educated), well located with good transport links (airport and M1), close to neighbouring Dunstable downs and Chiltern Hills, diverse community with a pretty good selection of restaurants and street food places. Cons: The central area Town (including the town centre) is a complete shithole overrun with rubbish and the disenfranchised. Certain communities in the town centre have no desire to keep streets clean and dump rubbish for all to see, encouraging rats, foxes and other pests. Crime is an issue but to me nowhere near as bad as London overall. Not the best place in terms of shopping. Overall if the town centre had a better shopping experience, a massive clean up, people looked after their streets a bit more and the council invested in more rubbish collection the town wouldn't actually be bad at all. But I'd still rather be on the property ladder here than pay abysmal amounts of rent in London.

Bro I've lived in Luton and live in Peterborough currently. Luton is much better in terms of doctors, dentists and schools in your area. Also Luton has a lot to offer places to go out, go eat and a pretty fairly good place to shop. Also London not to far and MK is round the corner. However because of how close they are from London They have a lot of issues with country lines. Apart for the gang related shit just like everywhere in the UK as long you keep your own neck out the way your pretty good.

Luton is not the worst city to live in / at… I mean firstly it’s not a city and secondly there are more horrible places to be at like Kent.. Hull… Milton Keynes.. Stevenage to name only a few… Luton is a very friendly and welcoming town… it’s close to London and it’s not as bad as people from other places make it out to be… I’ve been there and I like it because of the diversity !!

Luton is not as bad as others say. People have the choice to move elsewhere if they don't like it. However now people from London are moving in and possibly inflating house/apartment prices. Every town/city has positive and negative aspects.

@@imolesquare glad to shed a bit of light on the situation,it's easy for me to see the reasons why because I'm not religious so my views are unbiased.Most religious or cultured peopled only believe in their religion or culture and that there becomes the problem as they have different beliefs and ways of living.I can stand back and look at all religions and cultures and see the bad and the good but the funny thing is if you indulge into any religion there really isn't much difference they all lead to one person and that's God.The biggest problem of all is culture as someone from 1 culture will never reason with another culture,but what all people need to understand and this is not being racist in slightest is if your living in the UK and class yourself as a British citizen then you are part of the British culture and should be living as the British do imo.

I hear that 💯. However, I do not agree that people from other cultures who now live here should adopt the “British culture”. They should be able to practice their our cultures but must obey the laws of the land. I think we keep taking the lenses off the people that were elected to run this country and we are arguing and fighting amongst ourselves as stake holders. Elected officials must be held to account. They must be pressured to fix our towns and cities so that no one town is left behind in terms of development, safety and opportunity.

Luton town centre is fine imo. At least I don't think there is anything wrong with it (other than those two rude delinquents you met). The bad reputation Luton gets, is mostly from Bury Park and Marsh Farm.

In every aspect of life, Luton falls short and to be honest, its not the fault of Luton itself. Ive lived in Luton for the best part of 20 years and from the moment I arrived, I could sense the impending depravity, social and economic problems we now face. Over the years, Government funding has been declining and the amount of tax paying contributors to the budget has dramatically decreased. So Luton has around a 70/30 split in terms of employed residents. The man at the begininning of the video was correct. Luton used to be the breadbasket of the Shires. Very affluent town. Industry was thriving in the 70s, 80s and 90s, but factories and industry closed, shut down or relocated - causing a huge wave of unemployment. And from what I've been told, the town has never recovered. Luton actually has potential, but it starts at the school level and the schools are crap! Anyone who lives in Luton and is employed generally shop outside of Luton because the town is in a dire state. Anyone who says Luton isnt bad is part of the problem, but to be honest (and not to sound elitist or classist) Luton's problem is that the class system here are predominantly lower to beneath lower and for these ppl, it probably feels normal. Luton is poverty island.

Have a search on google for "luton borough council statement of accounts", check each years accounts for the "employee benefits expenses", even without the £30 million spent on staff not employed directly by the council the expenses go over £200 million. To blame funding cuts from central government for the state of luton is just silly.

Luton might not be a perfect town but I don't feel racism here (at least in my 3 months of living) because of mix nationalities and culture. Some places in Central London is more scary for me. Just don't approach people that you think you might get rejected or worse get trouble because there are people like this in different places/countries anyways including in my own land.
