I just received this today. The 256 gb. Why is it when I plug it in my phone it says 64 kb is already used on it?

It's normal for a small amount of storage space on a new drive to be used for system files or pre-installed software that helps manage the drive's functionality. This is normal for ALL external hard drives and thumb drives. 64kb is incredibly small at 0.0625 MB. You can't store a decent sized image on 64kb.
