Ideally, I think the better option would be to travel to these places, and do extended stays, but avoid moving your life, lock, stock and barrel overseas.

What an interesting video--very informative! I paused it and re-wound it a lot to just take in this information. I have watched some of those "moving to Sicily" videos, and most are of the "rose-colored glasses" variety. There is one ex-pat couple who shared the truth. They are trying to farm---and the water crisis has devastated their attempts. They have mentioned the possibility of leaving, but they are trying to hang on. They are very discouraged and depressed--but don't want to throw in the towel. I knew about the drought problems, but you brought up other serious issues that I wasn't aware of. Thanks Angie! Many blessings to you and Frank ♥

There's a lovely woman from California who runs a "move to Italy" channel...she's a realtor and got into the real estate game over there. I guess someone didn't like her meddling in their affairs (driving up real estate prices), so they set her car on fire. She produced a video a week later apologizing for whatever she had done to offend. Screw that!

Yes, and as we've said several times, "You don't meddle in their business". 9:56 I guess she meddled a bit too much. She better be careful. Thank you for sharing! Take care.

That place is definitely a no go. Water is a mandatory ingredient. Thanks for this, I know someone who’s brother and wife planing to move there. I might want to show them this video.

From a tax perspective Italy may not be recommendable for a lot of people as well, they have net wealth tax especially on property owned abroad, having a house worth 500k outside Italy makes you to pay ca. 5k net wealth taxes in Italy for it.

Yikes! Thanks for sharing that good information.

Yeah, most youtubers haven't caught onto that fact yet. Then again, it's not always just about tax

Another place I was reading about recently with water problems is Paraguay. "Paraguay River at lowest water level in more than a century". Regards, Quito frugalist.

What about Calabria, do they have a drought also?
@HMFamilyLife2 ай бұрын
It's dry everywhere in the Southern regions of Italy but not like Sicily.

Absolutely - do NOT drink anything but bottled water and, make sure you've got enough! I love Sicily - the Arab touch of Italy and yes, I could live among the mafioso but agree with Angie.. If you want to live in Sicily... wait until you retire and, can bring a pension to the place - or better... Get your pension in your own country and pay the fee to take the money out in Sicily.. I am European and, knowing people from and in Italy/Sicily, I also know what I'll avoid doing, should I end up there with my pension... Please visit this lovely island, speak with the locals (the one's left) and, keep in mind, a place once ruled by the/a Mafia, is a country/people who will always have some contacts.....😎 When in Palermo, don't forget to visit the Gallery of the Mafia and, when you visit Ireland next, please don't forget to visit the Ulster Museum in Belfast and their exhibition on "the Trouble"... You'll find the photo's you see from "the Trouble" to be very much like a copy of the one's you see in the Gallery in Sicily.. The only thing differing, are the faces... The evil and the hate is the same!! NO more about the 2 countries for now... I live in Ireland and, love the country, - lived in Northern Italy for a year and, love Italy and Sicily... I will not spend my retirement in any of the 2 or, in any other European country for that matter.....(Sicily will always be one of my European island-"refuge" places in Europe, should I, for unknown reasons, be forced to come back here, after I leave for a different continent in my new "era", not that far in the future. Thanks a million Angie... Spot on as usual... ♥️🤗❤️ Oh, and never forget the Italian and Sicilian food - never, ever 😋🍪😋
