It's great that it looks like the engine has survived all those years. And being such a rare car too it deserves another chance.

The pre-HE jaguar V12 is the best Engine jaguar ever made in my opinion. Robust and powerful. And relatively simple. But thirsty. And during the mid 70s when they first came out again in my opinion were one of the best engines produce on earth

The later XJ-S HE V12 engine is superb and so quiet and smooth. Economy is good on the motorway. Have owned one now for 25 years. Bullet proof. Requires proper servicing.

Wow, that engine is really in surprisingly good condition. I'll bet the owner is relived. I'm so happy the owner is restoring the car.

Seems to be a good engine!

Really enjoyed this two-parter mate. I remember marveling over the Jaguar version in my late dad's motor magazine in the early '70s. British engineering at its finest, although hampered by dodgy amateurs, the fuel crisis and of course British Leyland build quality. 🇬🇧

Looks like the engine is in great shape! Can't wait to see this getting put back together

Thanks Adam - this was a useful guide for the V12 barn find XJS I am about to check out. It has been stored since 1994 and has 69,000 miles showing on the odometer. A compression test might help determine if that is 169k (or 269k+…).
@johnmoruzzi72369 ай бұрын
It might well be just 69,000 miles… unless you’re in the US of course…

It would be cool to have the history of this car. I wonder why someone would buy a car that was sold for the price of a house away after only 5-6 years.

Would really like to see how you flush the engine with press. water. I will do the same…

These pre he engines are much better than later he engines, they have more power. So best to use it if you can.
@LivingWithAClassic9 ай бұрын
They are the best. Much smoother too. Pre-HE has always been my favorite

Is the fuel injection not better on the He engines? maybe I got that wrong…
@Thanos.m9 ай бұрын
@@mlindblom The HE EFi it is more modern and parts availability is better and it tends to be more reliable. Pre-HE EFi is essentially Bosch D-Jetronic (which itself is essentially bendix efi so its 50s-60s tech) made under licence by Lucas its also analogue there no actual processor. The pre HE engines were more powerful though.

Thats was a really expensive car back then… why was it only used 5-6 years? was maybe explained in a previous episode.

I don’t have the whole story unfortunately. I think it sadly involved a death in the family.
