I am fortunate to have had Mr. Spinner repair my 1957 Rolex. I’m grateful for his attention he gave my watch since it was born the same year as I was. Thank you again Chris.

I know nowadays people think Rolex is the "gold standard" (my terminology) for a classic modern watch, but honestly, to me at least, i think these Seamasters have it beat by a looong, long shot. I happen to have both brands from family relations and i think the Seamaster is much more pleasant on the eye. And since i've started servicing them myself to keep the collection running, i also find the whole operation to be slightly more pleasant (tho that's more than likely just my own bias). Regardless of that, great watch and a timeless (pun intended) piece. I think these will be fashionable even in a few decades from now. Whomever penned the casing design really hit the ball out of the park in my opinion. There's something both simplistic and complex about it at the same time and it's very tastefully done. I've seen other brands try to emulate the feel, but they just can't hit the mark (which is why probably both Rolex - classic and this are so loved). That ramble out, Happy New Year!!! Here's to a 2024 that brings good things to you and yours + more subscribers! :)

Designs by Rolex and Omega make a difference. All of the screw holes are recessed. That's huge. I didn't notice the difference until I was working on an old watch and I started putting screws in and not being able to get them started. LOL

Now you've made me want to go and buy a Seamaster. The finish and aesthetic of the design are amazing. I can't say for certain, but I think those are quality inspection indicators on the mainplate and automatic bridge. Likely added by the subcontracted manufacturer. Thanks for the tip on the lubeta substitution.

This is one of the first watches I ever servist when I was doing my degree at Birmingham School of Jewelry. Its was my watch but it wasn't an Omega but a Eterna-Matic so I payed a lot less but still, but still has Chronometer Officially Certified. I find I need to adjust the time about as often as I put the date right Mine does not have numbers or symbols hand made on the movement plates. Some of the scratches look like they are made by heavy handed reassembly.

Beautiful movement. Great job servicing it. I found the Chinese mainspring winder sets quite limiting, since they are caliber specific. I would find the right barrel size but then it would have too small of a hole to fit the needed arbor size. Fortunately, you can modify the barrels. I drilled out some to accept larger arbors, essentially turning them into equivalents of the Bergeon generic winders. I did also add the Bergeon #6 and #8 arbors to give me arbors up to 3.5 mm.

This site will teach the fundamentals of various adjustments. For a chronometer certified watch, aside from basic balance poise, it comes down to tolerance of the parts. Perfect end shake and side shake of the pivots in their bearings. Consistent oiling, etc. dynamic poising, which you can find on the site, is the ultimate way to eliminate positional inaccuracies assuming every thing else in the movement is healthy. adjustingvintagewatches.com/what-is-watch-adjusting/

Those engraved #'s might just be a test to ensure that you didn't just swap out the movement with another, since they're strategically hidden in an obscure location that you'd only see if you had indeed pulled the movement apart fully.

@stevewilliams5428
@stevewilliams5428 8 ай бұрын
It's more complicated than that, as CS alluded to. It's a mean of positional variations and different temperatures. Isochronism needs to be good. Balance poise has to be perfect. Balance system materials need to be largely immune to temperature change or compensate for it. The mainspring needs to supply as near to perfect consistent force as possible. The train needs to transmit that force as consistently as possible. The lubrication has to be exact and the right oils used in the right places. As CS discovered...the only thing needed on this movement was a proper clean and lubrication to restore its performance. This he achieved.
