it was good value when it was a fiver, it was a lovely big empty motorway, and an enjoyable drive, handy shortcut to alton towers. dont do via stoke, lichfield abbots bromley is by far the best and most scenic route

Tolls will mean that drivers from other countries will have to pay to use the roads. The tax take from fuel duty will reduce as we convert to electrically powered vehicles but the roads will still need maintaining. There are no road fixing fairies. I have checked!

As of when they bring in pay per mile you can almost guarantee that it will be on top of the fuel duty not instead of it.

This is a definate because they will still want to push that EV agenda.
@JackOfski

The EV market is on its ass not just here but across the EU, so for the government to push this dumb agenda they will have to go after the ICE driver harder through much higher taxes and in return lower taxes on EV drivers making it a much deeper 2 tier driving policy, like everything else this parasitical government do.

Fuel duty and VED. There's no way they will remove either of those, yet will the roads improve?
@PCDelorian
@PCDelorian 3 ай бұрын
The thing is roads are expensive. We cannot afford them with current taxation. We currently pay VED, Fuel Duty, and about 2/3 council tax toward the upkeep of our roads and that isn't actually very much comparative to other nations. We so often hear and may even think about price per mile, and other schemes deterring motorists, as making driver to expensive for the average driver, the problem is it is, we've just grown used to the tax payer footing the bill. Cars are getting bigger, HGVs more ubiquitous, there's less trains carrying both passengers and freight, and its all increasing the wear, and thus costs of our roads. There is no easy answer to this. Product prices probably will not increase as much as you may fear, these extra prices when spread across all goods will be minimal and with suppliers already trying to squeeze as much profit out as they can, increasing prices will happen regardless (this just gives them an excuse).

The last time I used the M6 Toll I paid £6.00. To be honest, I can't see that they stop charging or the use of this road in 2053 and as an example take the QE2 bridge or Dartford crossing. The tolls there were supposed to be stopped on 1. April 2003 but instead of stopping the charge they actually increased it. Fact is that motorists are simply a cash cow for both Government and private enterprise.

It doesn't matter whether the roads and infrastructure are privately owned or not there is an ongoing cost to maintain them and the money has to come from somewhere, even with antiquated figures from 2012 by the Highways Agency it would cost over £7 million a year to maintain the M6 Toll, this Labour government though are not concerned about the actual infrastructure it's just about getting more money out of people.

@@RushfanUK That is true but just look at the two Severn Bridges where they managed to scrap the toll charges back in 2018

They will surely charge at a rate that means any charge would raise the same amount as the current fuel duty. The problem would be if the Government outsourced it to a private sector company that wanted to make excessive profits.

I'm not sure it would be in place of fuel duty! They still want to get their EV agenda moving forward and that won't happen on a level playing fireld!

Transport costs will increase price of the goods . I used to have a private account for my personal use for the M 6 toll, it worked well. But it made really not that much difference driving south at 4 am. I actually felt safer with more traffic on normal M 6 keeping me awake and paying attention than on empty M 6 Toll with long dark stretches and only the occasional rabbit crossing.

I love that toll road, it is much less used and pleasant to drive. But as I am geographically challenged, I have had to pay two tolls to travel in one direction. Got confused exiting a rest area, oops.

As far as I know, the French have it sussed with their toll motorways, with "national" roads often running parallel to them as a free option, but slower as they have traffic lights, r bouts etc. I don't know the pricing of the french system but I bet it's a lot cheaper than the M6 toll mile for mile - or kilometer!
@scottwalker4619
@scottwalker4619 3 ай бұрын
French is around 10 cents per kilometer. So the M6 toll would cost around €4. The French don’t have a “free” road running alongside them though. It’s more equivalent to the A roads in England. It might go in the general direction but they 1.5x your journey.

This is another bloody rip off if they do do it and price everybody of the roads who can not afford such high costs they should start taxing evs they have had a free ride to long ie by size and weight of these big tanks for evs

EVs will be taxed from April 2025, the same as most petrol/diesel cars. Also: range rovers, BMW X5 & X7, Porsche Cayenne and vehicles of a similar size are all much heavier than your average electric car. Once the majority of vehicles on the road are electric, they will find a way to tax them like current vehicles as a government always wants to raise more tax!

and this is how they will force pay per mile if people don't stand up and say no, all taxes go into one pot and not individual pots hence the reason this government have said that current workers are paying for the current pensioners pensions and not their own retirement, high tax countries always have failing economies (high inflation, high transportation cost, high food cost) where as low tax countries have the strongest economies and that has always and will always be the case

My hgv gaffer is the same with the m6toll However,why are you not telling your viewers about the other toll roads they are already using? The cost may not be coming from a box of cornflakes, but it definitely is coming out of our taxes. M40, m5, and the sneakiest is the a1 between peterborough a47 and a14

That was Jons video from his brilliant channel auto shenanigans. We all pay a sort of road toll with the fuel duty we pay. The thing with this M6 toll is that to use it the money directly comes out of your pocket and you have a choice whether to use it and pay it or not.

That's why you should use the A50 A500, Or A500 A50 M1 J23/25 M6 J16, depending on which way I travel north south or South north. OK It's a Tulane dual carriage way with roundabouts and it may be a mile or two longer but it's significantly cheaper.
