IMO boxes like this are mainly just there to lower the outside room noise floor which is great but in doing so bringing reflection points closer to the mic. Some auralex in side would definitely clean it up and reduce the boxy sound. People have the same issue with smaller homemade vocal "booths".

The inside of the booth is padded walls. It’s VERY dead inside 👌

@@EdThorne it definitely sound pretty dead and the noise floor is reduced dramatically but there is still the reflections which is why the tone of the mic changes. The track doesn't just sound cleaner, the tone is different which is what others notice as well. Not to say that's "terrible" or that it ruins the track or anything but if you want to maintain the sonic profile of an expensive mic, those reflections still need to be dealt with especially when so close.

@@AtTheSourceStudios Hi :) Where would you place the auralex ? On each side ? The behind the mic ? Thanks !

@@slimannaciri694 If your using it for singing… padding added or not, the mid to low boost will have you chasing booms to get it to sit in your tracks. This is a narration /vo kit… not a singing booth… I have had mine for a year and tried everything from different mics, different padding to contacting the manufacturer and no matter what the dead sound is not worth the headache of trying to eliminate the boom while balancing the rich bottom warmth of a sung Vocal that will sit well in your music….

Very well done video Ed! I dont know if the IsoVox would be the right solution for me, however I think it does a great job for a specific use case which a lot of people can enjoy!

The Isovox 2 is great for keeping sounds out and in (i.e., the neighbors can't hear), but it does have a boxy sound and low frequency build up. I got mine on eBay for half price. I like it and I'll like it more when I figure out the low frequency build up issue.

Great work! Any chance you could make a review of one of the full sized vocal booths out there? A review of the “t.akustik vocal booth bundle” would be awesome!

Thanks, Peter. I’ll be honest, these kinds of videos are so niche, they don’t attract many views so I need to focus on audio interface/UAD related content which seems to work really well for the channel. Thanks for the suggestion though

So glad I bought a $99 AUD tri fold foam narrow sofa bed online and some heavy moving blankets. I just fold the mattress into a book U shape and drape the blankets over the top. Its FANTASTIC. so acoustically DEAD .

Sir, this cabin doesn't make any sense. There must be a sufficient airy room. Also there should be breathing distance between mic and instrument. Room should not be over acuasted. These tips are given by the engineer Shantanu of Yash Raj film studio, mumbai, India. In order to produce good music, mics and instruments should be allowed to breath at the optimum level. Otherwise it will produce Duff recording sound.

The price is way too high!! I can sill make one DIY a d get the same results and then throw it ways when finished. And with all the money I saved, I can build another one when my next project will be ready. I believe it’s an awesome product and beats treating the entire room but the price is stupid. I want one but not at that price. Did I mention that it costs too much. Your video was beyond AWESOME!!

Are you kidding me, it sounds boxy, enclosed and unnatural. One would be much much better off putting blankets of various densities around, below and above him; Try creating several layers of different absorptive materials and, this is very important, use the lighter tissues (like thin sheets) for the innermost layers, the ones that'll be closer to the performer and mic; and use the thicker materials (like heavy blankets and thick rugs) for the outermost layers... progressively increase both the material density and thickness as well as the distance between layers as you go out from the center... the very thick and dense materials need to as far away from the mic as possible. And if you have some really really dense material for the final outermost layer you could leave the corners simply open, like fold or cut them to be a bit shorter than the full distance between corners, so the low frequencies can escape. Because this way you wont have low frequency buildup and will have dead isolation with natural sound. Do that in a room that's as big and silent as possible and you'll probably have a sound matching any Professional vocal booth in any Professional Studio.
