We own the previous gen 2025R, bought new in 2015. It replaced a well worn NH 1220. Couldn't be happier. For our property and uses it's the perfectly sized machine in terms of capability and footprint.

I traded my 1025R for the 2025R. REALLY HAPPY with the up-grade. I mainly grind stumps and do loader work. The 2025R is a huge up-grade and much better for what I do. I didn't loose much when I traded my 1025R.

Just Do It!! Got a 2025R this fall (2018) and use it often. Bucket with quick connect 120R loader does snow on drive (yes, no more shoveling my large paved driveway). I burn about 30 face chord of fire wood for winter home heat. Got a quick connect frame and 42” forks from TITAN ($407 delivered). I buy log length so I cut n split all 30 face chord. Use pallets to transport cut wood from back of my yard (about 300’ from house...Yes, no more wheel barrow) to house. Also use bucket for cut wood to move and dump next to my house (I just pile n don’t bother with stacking). Haven’t even had the chance to use the 260B backhoe yet but will need to do some septic work in the Spring so all good for that too. Tim, sweet talk your wife AND GET ONE. You won’t regret it.

Nice review Tim, some people are getting hung up on HP#'s but got to remember with a diesel its more about the torque than HP. Also the extra 350 Lbs and taller wider tires will be helpful for those implements where you're engaging the ground like a Plow. Weight can make up for HP in some applications.

Just purchased a Kubota BX myself and I would have to say I love your channel. Although I didn’t go with the JD (mainly the dealer differences and Kubota struck me a deal I couldn’t refuse) I still love watching videos and using the subcompact tractors in general. I don’t think your getting enough differences to “trade up”. Slight bigger, heavier, and small gains is load movement are not worth the sacrifice in how nimble Johnny is. Have the videos you have done are in tight spaces with nearly the room for Johnny yet he finds a way to master the job. If you go bigger you will find yourself more capable for the job. . . If only you could get to it, ha. I choose the subcompact because I have many trees and a smaller property(2/3 acre). While I want a larger tractor, I know the smaller one is the right one. You chose wisely when you purchased Johnny. Keep him!

Just purchased a 2018 2025R TLB here in New Hampshire. Was quoted $28,042 with a $4,348 discount which brought it to $23,694 out the door. The 120R with 53" and the 260B with 12" buckets. They quoted me $21,504 discounted for the 1025R TLB out the door. For an additional $2K and the Deere 0% for 60 months made it a no brainer. The 2032R TLB would have been around $30K after discount.

Sound like the deal I got. 2018 2025R w/120R quick connect loader and bucket, and 260B backhoe for about $23,700 and the 60 month 0% ($368/mo). ( I already have a JD 540 Z- turn so didn’t need the mower deck) The discounts and financing got me to do this in the fall instead of next spring. So far, glad I did. Enjoy your tractor Rich.

Tim, John Deere should give you commission from my purchase. Just got a 1025R with Bucket, Tiller, Rake, Mower and Brushhog. We built a new home with 1.5acres and have an unkempt 14 acre park next to us that we want to fix for the neighborhood. I have only had the 1025 for about 3 weeks now but it has done a great job at everything I have thrown at it and frankly we have thrown some things at it that are not very fair :) It has handled it all. We went back and forth between the 2 series and 1 series (You even were nice enough to provide some personal insight). Honestly the cost difference of the 2 series would have meant I couldn't get some of the attachments and the attachments is what makes the tractor useful. Sitting higher on bigger tires I would be even more nervous being on some hills. The smaller turning radius I bet you is going to be more valuable than you think. While I like the look of the 2032 and the bigger tractor look to it, In the end the 1025R seems to be able to do nearly everything the 2025R can do and costs what,,, about 8k less? Since the 2025 uses the same attachments for the most part. 8k is a lot of money for bigger tires,. Seems like the real decision would be the 1025R versus a 3 series so you can move up to larger implements when you have the larger land area jobs. Thanks again for the video's. Our family has really learned a lot.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. No, the 2025R is not 8k more than the 1025R. I suspect you are thinking of the 2032R when making that price comparison.

Because I am sentimental to things, I would have a hard time parting with “Johnny” if I were you and got the 2025R. As far as I know, TTWT started with “Johnny”. “Johnny” and family fit together like a fine wearing glove to the hand. Besides “Johnny” is not just an ordinary tractor as he is now a famous tractor. Although I have been a tractor fan for a long time, in all honesty, I got hooked on You Tube tractor videos watching TTWT and that means “Johnny”. I watched a long time before I became a subscriber or made comments. I look forward to seeing “Johnny” and the family in the videos more than I do the tractor shows on RFD TV. In fact, I keep hoping one of those big time city slickers with a television production company would approach TTWT for a tv program. If you ever decide to part with Johnny, let us know before you do as we might be interested in giving him a good home way down south - he’ll never have to clear snow.

When I bought my setup a few weeks ago, I went back and forth between the 1025 series and the 2025 series. But the price became the deciding factor and as said in another video, I ended up getting the new 2018 version of the 1025 series by luck when they ordered my unit. About the only thing I wish they had kept stock was the extra lights.. I have now added my own. BTW, they put my toolbox mounted to the BACK of the ROPS bar which is perfect because I can easily get the tools and pins for the 3 point in the back without having to walk around someplace else. There is also one other major difference. The steel light protectors, those cages that surround the lights, did not come with mine either.. I learned that the hard way. Being new to this I forgot about the damn rops bar my first time mowing. busted one of the lights from a tree branch and lifted the front of the tractor right off the ground. John Deere should make it mandatory for their sales people to explicitly warn people with the new angle of the ROPS system.. You must lower it because if it gets caught, unlike the straight up bar that would allow branches to slide up and over if you forgot, the new tilted forward version does not and brings the branch right down the back of the driver.. and if it does not snap could flip you backward upside down. Thankfully it only broke one of my lights and I was able to recover before the tractor went right up and over. Lesson learned believe me.

I am a little late to this video. My wife and I owned the 1025r for 4 years. About a month ago my wife and I decided we really needed some more lifting power. You see... My wife has a wholesale food business. So, once a month a truck comes and we must unload her product from a reefer van. There was a pallet that weighed roughly around 980 lbs. I knew that was a tad bit more than the lifting capacity of the 1025r. So I put the tiller on the back along with rim guard in the tires and gave it a try. I could not lift the pallet straight up, rather I had to just use the tilt and have the truck driver stand on the tiller. Needless to say, we decided to purchase the new larger frame 2032r. It is quite a bit larger, and yes, it lifts that 980 lb pallet like it is an empty box. We haven't been able to try it yet for our yard duties, so I am hoping it will do the job and be a true replacement for our trusty 1025r.

The only reason to buy it would be ground clearance and better ride the stability issues are still there on uneven ground the 1025 was a great tractor but it is very tippy side to side with a heavy load. Remember how easily you sold me on 1025. I am willing to return the favor. By bringing up my 2038r and letting you play with it in exchange for a few cheeseburgers. But I would strongly recommend the 2038r over the 2025r it for a multitude of reasons not just because I have one.

Please permit me to play devil's advocate. I looked at JD when I was buying my tractor. Brand name omitted. I have a 29 hp tractor, and at the time I bought mine JD had a 25 hp, I think. Been a few years now. JD was a 2 speed HST, mine is 3 speed w/3 range setup. I didn't care for the hyd hook up for the front loader. The JD tires were smaller making the tractor set lower. I wanted the higher ground clearance, for moldboard plowing. The JD had the hyd lines much lower, under the tractor, than mine. Mine were tucked up under the platform. The JD was a bit more money and 4 hp less. Now! I believe the JD dealer told me the small JD's were built out of the country, as is my tractor. Having said all that, if you like JD, go for it! I myself, I went a different route and have been very satisfied with my tractor. I have a soft sided cab, that is made right here in Indiana. I have a custom built, by me, heater, plus a custom built light bar. I have a 4 ft King cutter tiller, and a Brinley 12 in plow, along with a 6 ft 3 point finish mower. I very much like your videos, and trust you will continue to make them. It would be interesting to work our tractors side by side and compare them in a head to head workout. Kokomo, Indiana

I was in the market for a new compact tractor this spring. Had an old yanmar 1802d that was getting long in the tooth. I looked at everything on the market at the time. The 1025r the Massey GC1720 and the kioti and Mahindra equivalents. I finally decided that they were all just a bit too small and just weren't enough "tractorish" for me. I ended up going with the Kioti CK2510 as it was bigger and heavier and was more comparable to my old yanmar. If JD would have had the 2025r I would have for sure taken a close look at it.

I'm not one that gets too attached to a vehicle, or equipment just because I named it. "Johnny" has been a GREAT tractor, and will continue to be a great tractor, but it doesn't mean you will have to keep it forever. If there is another tractor that gives you a bit more of what you need (more ground clearance, better stability, ect), then maybe that tractor will serve you a little better. Of course, you have to compare the cost factor vs the benefit.

Love all your videos I have watched them many times and helped me made up my mind on a new tractor.Ok, Here its is after 2 months of looking and trying to decide what to do I determined the that is would be a bad chose for me to get the 2025R. I ended up yesterday buying a new 2032R and I'm glade I did. What a world of difference. This thing is so Hi-Tech its overwhelming after you get it home and start using it. First I have to say I had a 2720 and it was a great tractor I decided to sell it to down size so I did and got a new 1025R and in one month this fall I hated it .It was like a toy tractor for me. So I sold it in 2 days after listing it for sale. Went and looked at every brand out there including the Orange king. They are nothing like a JD. I bought a new 2032R with all the bells and whistles. Loader & HD Bucket and loops with quick connect. 72" command deck and also all the hydraulic front to rear hook ups. Rear I-match and weight box. Front 4 way hydraulic HD dozer & snow blade. This is the finest machine on the market. By Far the best on the market

That is a small tractor and the front bucket is nice for that size tractor, and the backhoe is nice for that tractor. I like the 3032E tractor I got which is about the size of the 790 tractor which I purchased in 2003, except that this new tractor have a front loader on it where the 790 didn't, but I did get the basic implements I needed like the trailer, box blade, and brush hog with the 790 tractor. With this tractor I only got the bucket which was what I wanted.

I bought a B2601 over the BX. I'm sure much of my reasons of going with the B series over the BX translates well into 2R over 1R in a Deer. So that said... The B2601 has about the same HP as a BX2680, but they are very different engines. The B series is larger and spins slower to make the same HP. It has a flatter torque curve and makes more overall power throughout the rest of the powerband. The entire tractor is heavier, which means more of that power gets to the ground. The hydraulics are faster and the lift capacities are much greater. Beefier axles. 3 speed transmission. And as mentioned many times, you get much better ground clearance. I think you should get the 2025R! You use your machine a lot and I think you'd notice a big difference in the various projects you get into.

For the life of me I'll never understand why tractor manufacturers felt the need to put small tires on tractors. Ever since the invention of the tractor, engineers realized large tires are more efficient and highly suited for tractor work. Look at a Ford 8N or 9N tractor, even with limited horsepower those tractors can PULL! I have no interest in a tractor with golf cart tires and no clearance. Everybody I speak to feels like they have to compromise with today's tractor offerings. Maybe my love for old tractors is tainting my judgement... Thanks Tim!

I thing to add on quick tatch vs front 3pt, the quick tatch has down pressure and is way easier/ faster to hook up. I've owned both (1026 and 3046 mainly for snow) the 3046 had a nice factory cab but it was very tippy and really only good for snow, too tippy for any other work in our area. Now we run plows on trucks and I want a 1025 again, miss the 1026
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 6 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Do you think the 'tippy' aspect is due to the cab? Do you think a 3046R open station would be as tippy? the 1025R is definitely special. I've heard several folks with 3 series say that there are tasks they cannot do with the 3R that could be accomplished with a 1-series.

Tractor Time with Tim I think the cab was a big part of it as well as the narrow stance. I just pulled the trigger on a 2025R with R3 tires. I like the wide stance of the 2032 and 2038, but I feel like the size and weight would scare customers. Hoping the 2025 has a nice combination of power, clearance and nimbleness.

any experience with stability on hills? I had 2010 2305, loaded tires and concrete ballast and for the most part stable on my hilly property,. (my driveway is about 15deg). I would love something larger than the 2025r but don't have the space on my small property. I like the extra ground clearance, larger tires and could use any extra lift capacity I can get of the 2025. I am worried that the extra height of the 2025r will be tippy, I plan on loading the tires, ballast box and possibly 2-3" spacers, should I be concerned, wonder if the extra weigh of the machine and wider stance over the 1025 negates my worries...thoughts?

So is this like comparing a current BX to a B7500? I recently acquired a B7500 through a property transaction. It does all I need it to do, but seeing the newer smaller tire tractors has me confused. They offer more options than my B does, but the B is larger. Are they one in the same like the 1025 and 2025?

Tractor Time with Tim I know you're more into JD and my B7500 is a bit older. The previous owner used it primarily to mow, he had a 6ft finish mower on the rear. I gave up on that and bought a JD Z930M which is much more efficient at mowing. For now I'm using the Kubota to move material, scape the driveway and buck logs with a set of clamp on forks.

Honestly it's price for me. 1025 25hp 2025 25hp An about $7000 more for the 2025. It's the same horse power.. why didn't john deer just up it to 28 or 29hp. At least you could justify the price increase!! Longer An taller tires An sitting higher with out widening the 2025 is a accident waiting to happen on a side slope. Jmo

I don't believe it is that much more $$ (7k). Compare MSRP to MSRP, and it will not be that much difference. Blame Obama for the 25hp. They can't raise the hp due to the Tier 4 diesel regs without adding lots of additional DEF/DPF equipment. This requires more space, and more cost.

We can hope that is another reg Trump will roll back. Nice looking unit, but I would agree that if I am buying a 'larger' tractor, the engine should reflect that increase as well..... after all, you are adding an additional 350 lb base weight to the tractor that the same motor used in the lighter weight 1025R. It is nice that the deck is able to raise higher.... that always seemed a little odd on my 1025R. I just don't see what you are able to do any better for the price increase.

Wasn't able to get up into the seat. However, we did get a good look at it. All new tractors are NICE!!!! I would have to ask are the few differences worth the extra money. My sub-compact Massey Ferguson is sized about the same as your 1025. I find it very tippy from side to side but powerful enough for anything I have asked it to do, and there has been some pretty heavy duty work done with it. The bigger tires, if the width hasn't changed , may make the 2025 even more tippy, just saying. But if you can talk the Finance Committee into it, I'd go for the BIGGER machine!!!! Good comparison I must say. Your comments were very unbiased one way or the other. Well done.

I live in Mississippi so a cab with AC would be the primary reason. The heat and dust here when mowing is horrible. But like Tim, I don't want to trade in my 1025R but rather have both. Hey Tim, I may have missed it, but I don't remember you mentioning if the width of the wheel base is noticeably different from the 1 series. I wonder if the taller tires will have any effect on the overall center of gravity? I sometimes find my 1 series to be a little unstable when working on uneven terrain. I know the large frame 2 series machines are wider and even offer optional wheel spacers for additional stability. Just curious if you noticed any difference with this machine and if you think the larger tires would help or hurt in the stability department? Thanks again for your videos. I find them very helpful.

We were planning to measure tread width, but forgot. However, since they support the 54" mower, I'm certain it is nearly identical to 1025R. I do the COG would be raised (not good), but I believe this can be offset by adding fluid to the (larger) rear tires. Also, the tractor is already 350 lbs heavier, so this should offset the higher COG as well. So, overall, I suspect it will be very similar with fluid filled tires. Just guessing here.

I have a JD 1025r TLB and use the heck out of it. I have a dream of setting up some of my land for horses (like just two or three horses) and want to hay my own fields but I don’t want to lose access to all my implements that I have for the 1025r so I thought to keep the little 1025r and add a 2025r to the JD stable which would be used for horse duty and maybe even building a small garden with it. I know I would have to get a mini bailer for the 2025r and a small rake and small cutter for it. My land has pretty level ground for haying so I don’t need a lot of HP to hay it. Am I crazy to think of having both 1025r and a 2025r?
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 2 жыл бұрын
2 tractors is not crazy at all. There are MANY times that two tractors will help you get a job done. Think of loading the manure spreader with one machine, and pulling the spreader with the other. I would not recommend a 2025r as your ‘larger’ tractor. Rather, I would recommend a 2032r, or 3039r as that second tractor. I don’t think you’ll see the necessary performance boost from the 2025r. I’m reality, a 3039r would be my recommendation. Rather than a ‘mini-baler’, you could then pull a full size square baler. They are easily purchased used for much less money than the mini balers, and they will bale MUCH faster. Just some thoughts to consider. If after a year or two, you find the 3039r to be all you need, you could easily sell the 1025r.

Hey Tim love the videos. Quick question I’ve been looking into the 1025r/2025r/2032r with front loader, bush hog and box blade, I have 18 acres of property that needs mowing and I have a long gravel driveway that gets ruts and needs to be scraped along with horse pastures and stalls that need grading after big rainstorms, I feel like the 1025r might be too small for the property and may get stuck in muddy sections after rain. Along with using it on my property I’d like to offer mowing and other tractor services in my area what tractor would you suggest? I feel the 2032r would work great on my property but wonder if it would be too big to help others in the community with mowing and various tasks, what’s your opinion?

I like the 2025r with the bigger tires, and everything about it except; It has the same motor as the 1025r does, in my opinion; JD needs to keep the same tractor because it’s just big enough, not too big for most people’s yard work (+) But, they really need to put some more motor in this tractor, even if it's just 5 or 10 more HP and keep the same tractor size. I don’t know, to me the only option after the 2025r tractors are just too big for mowing the yard, as well as other tasks on the property. It’s a nice tractor, no doubt about that, but it's just like a 1025r with bigger tires as it is, just like Tim stated in his video.

Tim have you ever plowed a garden with a JD 1023/25 and then used a tiller on it?
@TractorTimewithTim

Well, once. But the plowing was on established sod, so quite the rough ride. Search for ‘drone first use’ or something like that in our videos. This app I use for comments does not allow me to post links!

Can u do a video on the 2032r
@gclaytony
@gclaytony 7 жыл бұрын
Well, just my opinion. If I was about to buy a 1025R, I might opt for the 2025 R instead. But... i don't see enough difference to drive a person to trade in a 1025R to get this. To get a significant step up in capability, the "full" 2032 or 2038, or something in the 3R series are the options. The 3R have a better price point compared to same hp rated 2R. However for small, confined areas, or less than 5 acres with no brush, I think the 1025R is impossible to beat, while the aesthetic changes to the new 2025R seem to compromise those capabilities slightly. I guess, overall, I feel the new 2025R muddies up the JD SCUT/CUT line, being neither fish nor fowl. It would make sense if there were no existing 1R series, or if that line were being retired. It seems that it will split the buyer base rather than bring more in.

+Clayton Yendrey I like more choices!
@gclaytony
@gclaytony 7 жыл бұрын
More choices sounds good, if no costs associated. Once you start attaching costs to the choices, then there need to be some very well defined benefits or capabilities associated with them to allow a buyer to weigh the cost vs. benefit. I don't see that clear delineation model series alignment with what is essentially an up spec'd 1R that has been wedged into the 2R line, but apparently lacking any commonality with the rest of the 2R line. Now had the 2018 1025 R been this unit, with a general beefing up of the 1R series, then it 'fits'. Unlike now. I suspect that this may become a one off experiment by JD, to be melded back into the 1R lineup at a later date. Consumer acceptance will make that determination.

Tim have you heard of the problem of the 2025R going into gear? Just bought my 2025R from John Deere and it seems they don't know what to do. I want to get this fixed while under warranty. Do you know someone I can contact at John Deere.
@TractorTimewithTim

If it won’t go into gear, press the forward or reverse pedal slightly while applying pressure to the gearshift. It should slide right in then. Once you get the hang of that, it becomes second nature.

I understand the engine is the same HP. How about at the PTO? Is the engineering around the PTO the same too? I wish the PTO on my 1 series was a little more durable. Otherwise, I'd rather move up in actual power if I had to make a change. But the 1 Series is just about right for my needs.
@TractorTimewithTim

+Cash Johnston it will have more power than your 1023e. You would find the 1025r to have more PTO ho. The 2025r is same engine/pto power as 1025r

I like the fact that it has the step to get on and off of it when the mower decks not on it. With my bad back it's a challenge to get on even the 1025r on a bad day. And Dad can barely get on it with his bad knees with the mower deck using it for a step. I just wish that the my 1025r had another hydraulic attachment so I could put a Grappler on the bucket. I believe this one does does it not?

+PhatboyHD88 1026r is previous generation of 1025r. Another obama casualty. It was over the 25hp boundary, so would not meet tier 4 regulations.

I think you'll find the pressure exerted on the grass to be actually LESS than with your 1025R. think of it as the number of square inches of ground contact will go up MORE than the weight. So the actual Pounds per square inch will actually be lower. Make sense?

Ok I have a good question for you. You have a 1025R and the new 2025R is coming out soon. The 2025R has the same motor at the 1025R. Have you had a chance to start the 2025R and run it to warm up temp to see if its as bad a the 1025R with shaking on start & stop and if the rev has to be that hi to work the tractor. If the 2025R is the same then its not worth the money difference of over $6000 for the little new extras that they are. There the same tractor with bigger tires & wheels

I see it as uncmplicated. Replacing Johnny, and just improving performance including comfort, ok. Keeping Johnny is another thing altogether. Keeping Johnny would mean a REAL bigger brother. If not Johnny would try to keep up with the 2025 and might embaress him. Just sayin'.
