Parents who aggressively "helicopter" their kids, resolving every issue for them and attacking anyone not supporting their child's happiness and dreams, think they are helping their children. In reality, they prevent the child from facing the challenges, setbacks and disappointments that they need to learn about when they are young so that they can mature into self-sufficient strong adults. I know the results of when parents do this. I have a 40something step-son who's mother still does this for him and he's totally incapable of mature adult decisions, controlling his emotions when things disappoint him or moving forward. He's been frozen in life for the 15 years since I married his mom. When the parent is no longer here, then what?

I happen to have a child who is extremely gifted in football…we do everything in our power to keep her challenged but tell her to remain humble and a good player knows when to take that third, 4th, or whatever goal for themself- and when to pass it off and play smart. Some of these moms are delusional and are going to crush the passion and love of the game and that spark that their kids naturally have. Being good isn’t just about being good all on your own. No star player goes out on the pitch as a one man show, that’s not how it’s done, never has been and that’s not what elite coaches and leagues are looking for anyway.

And then they wonder why their kid did not make it. If you see some videos from this channel off the kids in u17 and u16 getting a contract their parents are super supportive and let the coaches do the pep talking and all that. Parents can really ruin a dream and a good footballer.

Shay’s father, Mo, revealed his true nature twice: when he protested during the meeting with the coach: “I have INVESTED so much” in him. And immediately following that meeting, when explaining what the coach’ said to his son, Mo sneakily accused his son for compelling Mo to react whenever Shay looked up to the stands following a mistake during play. I can only imagine the mind games this “faith and family” man plays on his son when not being filmed for a documentary. It is all disgusting.

That Kaleb kid and Mo's kid are really good, you can just tell it when they're on the ball. They just need to know when to pass and when to dribble. If somehow their parents are reading my comment then I'd advise them to keep going on because I see talent right there, even if they don't secure the contract from their clubs in england but I know these kind of talents are highly sought after in countries like Spain etc. Physical development will be crucial but don't let these coaches take away the flair away from these kids. Cheers to them and others too, keep working hard.

I really like the idea of having parents involve in the game but when you have them telling kids not to pass the ball that's when the cable gets cuttoff, this is not an individual game is a team sports if she wants her kid to play alone taking to play tenis.

Yep. Hands up. I was like Mo as a Dad when my son was in an elite Youth u11 team because I coached him & his teams all the way from 5yrs old that it was hard to trust his new coach. Ultimately I had to back off. Easier said than done though. ❤

Shy's dad is exactly what clubs tell you not to be. You're overloading a young brain.I also would like to have seen what else he does for Shy. He says he's willing to do everything, but it seems like that only is shown as turning up to training to give him bad advice.

A good player knows when to take it themselves and when to share it, they have skill, hard work, and team strategy. Parents need to get on board with that. Soccers not a one man show, they’re not happy? Sign them up for track

Interesting. We are in the US. I would like my son to play soccer every day. He plays at a club year round, but not daily. His mom likes baseball and pushes that. He is good a both soccer and baseball. Just an interesting difference between growing up in the US vs England where it is probably seen as normal for kids to play soccer every day for hours. I wonder if this keeps our kids in the US behind other kids. My kid's mom doesn't know anything about soccer so she just isn't into it.

Multi sport play is better for their bodies and mind, specializing young raises their ceiling in one sport but is worse for their overall coordination and injury resistance

No. Saffron learned a lesson that most of these parents struggle with - it's a professional environment, so act like it. At the age her son is at they aren't dividing up 'A and B teams’. If she truly believes her son is being demoted then she needs to raise that concern privately after a session. Not only is she damaging the development of the other kids in her son’s cohort, but she's also undermining the coaching staff in a public setting. I understand why it upset that parent. It’s a demanding statement to make. It looks like she realized by the end of the episode she was being too much and course corrected.

It’s not about winning at that age. It’s about development, it’s natural for competitive kids to want to play with and against the best kids and improve. It needs to come from the kids though, and not the parents. If you were better than other kids and wanted to improve you would have told your parents to put you in a better team or club.
