Is Tokido's New Button A GAME CHANGER?! OneFRAME (English Translation)

Recently, Street Fighter legend Tokido introduced his new original button, the OneFRAME, on his KZbin channel. Unfortunately, the video is only in Japanese so I used my moonrune power and translated the most important parts into English for you.
Could this new button change the way we play fighting games on leverless conterollers?!

I watched his interviews with Justin Wong. His English is decent, and he's starting to upload more vids with English subtitles. He seems like a sharp dude.

Very sharp. He is extremely personable and obviously one of the greatest to ever do it. As sticks get more popular in the US he could definitely break into things.

He made a 24mm and 30mm case for the D2FC-F-K Omron mouse switch, pretty cool idea, the switch itself is durable but for gamer use is way lower compared to a 'Cherry MX' style keyboard switch, we replace mouses because of switch failure really often, but the replacement switch is 1 dollar and with basic soldering skills is easy af to replace. The plastic mold and order required will make this button 'expensive' but maintenance after will be cheap, i would want a Silent version because this switch sound is annoying they said is not loud, but i think is compared to Sanwas not Keyboard switches, anything is not loud compared to Sanwas 🤣

@@Chris_F if is exactly how he showed in this video, looks like a Semitsu button with a PCB inside to hold the mouse switch, if the actual run that he will comercialize will be just a moded Semitsu can be cheap he will need to only produce 1 plastic part the top, buy the bottom part from semitsu (china), make the pcb and pay for assemble/package (Japan loves to make expensive package tho). If he does everything from scratch (or his designer partner pretends everything is custom made, happens a lot im in the industry of manufacturing) will be like 10+ bucks per switch, not exactly oh my god i can't afford but a silent qanba switch is 5 a punkworkshop button is 6 :P a aliexpress one is 0,20 cents + the keyboard switch.

$10 a button because Tokido has his name attached lol. Idk if you've tried Crown 202s but those are even louder than Sanwa. Same "thock" as a Seimitsu but much louder. All of it really depends on your panel and how much it dampens sound too.

Really cool, can't wait until this comes out to try these. I think depending on how it turns out this might become the defacto button people use on their arcade sticks/leverless with those numbers, being able to press and/or move quicker that is an inherent advantage. Or might force other button manufacturers to switch to this mouse switch, either way I really love the innovation that Tokido brings to fighting games, he's always looking ahead for the best way to play it's awesome to see.

The release point matters for any time you want to press the same button more than once. With keyboard switches you have to totally un-depress the button, but it looks like with these it deactivates early and you should have an easier time with double-taps and things like that. Honestly that seems like a good innovation, I hope there's a way for keyboard switches to mimic it.

Yeah or any rapid trigger/hall effect keyboard, they have analog magnetic switches where you can configure the actuation on press or release up to 0.1

At this rate, buttons might as well be gamepad buttons lmao. Quiet and fast actuation. Personally I'm in both camps of being hyped for unique and tangible updates to form factor but on the other hand, it's getting ridiculous with all these 20-button controllers and options available when some really only need like 3 options at most. Hot swappable microswitches and effort to make buttons quieter should be the bare minimum with buttons. Having got out of the Korean lever rabbit hole, things could be a bit more standardized or condensed imo. So much modding or mix and matching parts required and it isn't cheap.

I agree that we are going a bit too far on the other side of the spectrum - there are TOO many options now IMO. Back when I started during SSFIV days there were very few options. How things have changed!

Really appreciate this video. I had been seeing clips of Tokido looking like he was doing an and i am weary of celebrity products so it was good having someone to break down what exactly it was. I play on my mechanical keyboard but was planning at some point to make/buy a leverless at some point and this buttons will be something fun to try. I have also been revisiting some of your sf6 tech videos since i have been playing more which has been helpful. Keep up all the great work!

lol i'm building my arcade sticks from scratch and yesterday i thought would be cool if there is button that uses mouse microswitch because it seems just perfect for tactility and fast actuation. only problem is it will suffer from double click like any non optical switch mouses. old american arcade button actually use something like this but way bigger microswitch.

my problem with buttion are not how fast i press them, but how fast bution are relased, this main problem of hitboxes doing circles, if you do to fast circle you gona miss df/db or somethimes d with half circles. inputs, I'm more curious how easy it is to hold the button for one frame, in Tekken 8 some characters have 1 frame release inputs like Rejna and probably Hworang

If the travel distance is too short, it would feel like a wall or playing on a MacBook air keyboard and wouldn't give you enough feedback. I prefer full size switches on directional keys, and low profile switches on hit buttons. Also, the mouse micro-switches do break faster than mechanical switches. The internal design of a micro switch has a bar that resets the button, it often flattens out with multiple key presses while a mechanical switch has a leaf that is actuated by a stem that slides when you press. By design MX switches are superior.
